November 2024
Angie normally was the one to pick her daughter up from daycare. She’d pick her up after work, take her home and they’d spend the evening talking and making dinner and just being together until the little girl fell asleep and then Angie would rest a bit herself and do some cleaning before going to bed. That was their usual routine. However, this day, she let her mother go and get Olive from daycare. Olive would spend the night with her grandparents, who, were happy to have a child in their house again, Angie was the oldest of their three children, and the youngest of them was off to Hogwarts. They were basically empty-nesters, and loved to have the pitter patter of a 5 year old, running around their house. Olive loved going over where because she loved playing with the old dog they had since Angie was a child. Once she got off of her shift at the tea shop, she quickly made her way home to shower and change before Yadiel arrived. They were going on a date. Their first, real date. They had gone on several family outings with Olive and with Lucia over the summer, but they weren’t romantically involved then. This was new. This was fun and exciting. Angie hadn’t been on a date since the summer before Olive was born. Well a real date that was. She had gone on blind dates with the matchmaking service for fun, but nothing came of those. They were mostly just a way to meet new people and have some adult, human interaction. Once she was ready, she set her purse down on the sofa and then began tidying some of the morning mess away while she waited. She wanted to keep busy. @yadi

It was a lovely evening for an outing, which was exactly what he’d hoped it would be for what Yadiel had planned today. Now that he and Angela had both decided that they were romantically interested in one another, they wanted to try dating and take things slow. Naturally, in his mind, the next step was to take her out on an actual date. It would be the first time that they went out together without one of their kids being with them, which he’d never minded since he adored Olive. Today they would get to spend time together, just the two of them, and he was more than looking forward to it. It hadn’t taken him long to figure out what he wanted to do; he wanted to impress her but he didn’t want to go overboard. Embarrassing her was the last thing he wanted to do. He did have a few things in mind though, a plan of sorts, depending on what she felt like doing. He dressed in simple slacks, a button down and a vest, coupled with a tie and lightweight jacket. It was starting to get colder so the jacket was becoming necessary. His hair brushed his shoulders elegantly, bringing together his look and he grabbed his wand before he was out the door to the apparition point.
The night air was as cool as he expected but his thoughts were more focused on getting to her. It took minutes for him to get from his door to the apparition point and it was seconds before he appeared on her street. Slipping his wands into his pocket he ambled his way up the road to where he knew her home sat. He was surprisingly at peace even though he hadn’t been on an actual date in a little while because quidditch kept him busy enough. He wanted things to go well with her though, and that was a silent hope he kept anchored in his mind. Finally, he arrived at her door. He adjusted his sleeves and tie before he knocked and waited for her to answer.

The knock on the door had Angela frozen mid step. She had been midway through putting a few dishes into a cabinet but she felt her heart beating through her chest when she heard the light pounding on her front door. She hadn't really been nervous until she heard the knock. Angie was a very collected person, but there was something about this experience that was sending butterflies to her stomach. She felt completely comfortable with Yadiel and she was sure that her nervousness had nothing to do with him. But then again, maybe that was why she was nervous. She trusted herself with him, but this was all new territory for both of them. Sure, they had kissed, quite a few times now, but this was a date. A grown up, real, adult date. Something she had never experienced. Not many people wanted to date a single mother.
She closed the cabinet, took a breath and walked over to the door, opening it when she arrived. She smiled at the sight that was standing in her doorway. He was so cute. Had he always been this cute? “Hey there.” she said with a smile that came easily to her, the butterflies were starting to fade already. She had worked herself up and now that she was with him, she was feeling normal and natural again. Compared to him, she had dressed correctly, which was a huge relief to her since she had no idea what they were doing or how to dress. She had been wearing a floral, mid length dress and a pair of black ballet flats. She sported a faded pink cardigan over the top for an additional layer of warmth against the November air. She wasn’t entirely sure what to do, should she invite him in? Should she just grab her purse so they could go? This was all new territory.

With his hands settled in his jacket pockets, he stood patiently, waiting for Angie to open the door while he ran through their plans in his mind. He hadn't told her what he'd planned but he had no problem telling her in detail if she wanted to know. He'd have to ask. He figured the standard date wouldn't be too bad; he'd made reservations at a restaurant he'd heard about. It was the premier spot for couples, boasting an intimate, romantic atmosphere and a menu that couldn't receive any higher compliments than it had already gotten. And it was a magical restaurant, one that hadn't been open too long but had still been garnering positive attention and rave reviews from its customers. He hoped she was hungry. After that, they had options, depending on what she felt like doing. He was open to wherever the evening took them.
He was still going through the plans in his head when the door finally opened. She stood there, stunning, with that easy smile that had one of his own stretching across his face. Her dress was lovely and definitely appropriate for the evening, something he was glad for. "Hey. You look beautiful," his words were embedded with a comfortableness he felt when with her. Things with her felt so easy and so natural. "Should I come in? Did you have anything else you needed to do or are you ready?" Their reservations weren't for another 15 minutes but being a professional quidditch player had its perks. He would be able to stretch it. And he didn't mind waiting.

He said that she looked beautiful and she couldn’t help the smile widen a bit on her lips. He was so sweet, she hadn’t really ever been treated the way that he treated her, every little nice comment that came out of his mouth lead her to smiling wider than any man had ever made her smile. She felt silly, just smiling all the time, but it was kind of nice. “Thank you, you look quite handsome yourself.” she admitted, wishing she had said so before and hadn’t waited until he had said something to say it. He asked if he should come in, or of she had more to do before she was ready to go, Angie shook her head. “No I think I’m ready, I just need to grab my bag.” she told him. She left the door open so he could step inside if he wanted to while she walked over to her kitchen table, picked up her bag, and then slung it on her shoulder. “So what’s the plan for the evening?” she asked him while walking back out of the door.

The smile that spread across her face touched him in a way he hadn’t felt in a while. It made him want to compliment her more, just so that smile could remain. She complimented him in turn and he smiled in appreciation of her words. Not wanting to leave her door hanging open, he stepped inside for the moments it took for her to grab her purse, watching her sway across the room and toss it over her shoulder before she asked him about what the plans for the evening were. "I was thinking we could start with dinner. I’d hear good things about this nice restaurant. A teammate who took his wife even recommended it. He‘d said the atmosphere was great and the menu was perfect. He mentioned they had a good wine selection as well so I thought to give it a chance,” he began to explain, mulling things over in his head as he followed her out of the door. "After that though we have a few options depending on what you have a feel for." He loved a good wine so, coupled with the rave reviews, his expectations were high. Once they were on the street he fell in sn easy stroll on her right, offering his arm for her to take. "That sound okay to you?" Nothing was set into stone; he didn’t mind changing the plans for something that suited her mood but he figured he would choose something casual like dinner first just so the could talk and decide what they wanted to do afterwards.

He explained what he had planned; first, a dinner at a place that came with a glowing review from a teammate and his wife. Probably a good place, she thought. Honestly she hadn’t been out to too many places in town, not even with friends, she didn’t have a lot of free time anymore. If she didn’t make dinner, she’d pick up food in Hogsmeade after her shift, or, she’d stop somewhere on the way home from getting Olive from daycare. There wasn’t a lot of time to go anywhere else. Occasionally, when they were in Diagon Alley, they’d stop into a restaurant like they had on the day that they met Yadiel and Lucia, but that wasn’t too often. It wasn’t too often that they were in town. He also explained that after dinner, they had several options depending on what sort of mood they were in. She smiled and took his arm as they strolled the lane. “It sounds lovely to me.” she admitted, not wanting to add that anything sounded lovely to her. Just getting a pizza and eating it on the sofa with him sounded lovely to her. As they walked to the place, with him leading the way, Angie made casual small talk, “So how’s Lucia, have you heard from her recently?” she asked. She knew the girl was off at school, but she was sure they wrote often. She kind of wanted to know whether he had told his daughter that he was taking Miss. Angie on a date.

Angie replied in agreement to what he had planned so when she took his arm, he walked in a leisurely stroll towards the nearest apparition point. The restaurant was located in a tucked away corner on Horizon Alley so it was just a quick trip away. They still did have a little bit of time left. Her question about Lucia brought an immediate smirk to his face. His daughter was too smart and she rarely missed anything though he didn’t make a habit from hiding things from her. She was quite fond of Angie and Olive as well so she would be happy when he finally confirmed that the two of them had decided to date. "She’d doing well. Wishing for the holidays to come faster, of course, and she’s been asking about you and Olive a lot,” he chuckled and looked at her with a shake of his head, "She sent me this bracelet yesterday. She’s become fond of purple it seems." He took a moment to pull up the sleeve of the arm she held to show the braided and beaded purple bracelet his daughter had made for him. She made them often enough that he always had one or two around his wrist. Considering this one didn’t have any pink in it, he wondered momentarily if her favorite color had changed. "She also wanted me to ask if you liked bracelets because she wanted to make you and Olive one too. " He wasn’t sure if it was her prying or if she genuinely wanted to make them matching bracelets. He wouldn’t rule out it being both. "I remember you saying that Olive was going to your parents’ house today. Does she get to see them often? "

Angie loved hearing about Lucia and how she was doing. A thought crossed her mind when he explained that her break was coming up soon, Angie had gotten away from the idea of the school holidays, “Do you have Lucia for the Holidays?” she asked, wondering what they would do for Christmas or New Years Eve. She giggled over the little bracelet. “Oh tell her to make one for Olive, I swear, the little girl will never take it off.” Angie teased a bit, but it was the truth. Olive would treat it as her most prized possession. “I’d love one too.” Angie agreed politely. She didn’t wear a lot of jewelry, but that wasn’t the point of the bracelets that Lucia was making. Yadiel asked about her parents as they continued to walk along, at a bit of a leisurely pace. “She does, they watch her whenever I need someone too. If I can’t find her a tutor before too long, I’ll have to pull her out of daycare and my mom would love to get her hands on her more often.” she explained. Olive was getting to the age of showing signs of magical abilities. “They’re great, my family. I’ve got two younger siblings too, both in school still.” she added. “What about you? Is your family close?”

Angie asked him if he had Lucia for any of the holidays and he gave a nod before speaking. "Yeah, her mother and I usually switch off the holidays if I’m not too busy with Quidditch. She’ll be in Spain for Christmas, celebrating with Ines and her family but she’ll be with me for New Years." Last year at Christmas time he’d had enough time off in order to get her so they’d spent Christmas with his family in Puerto Rico. It got hard sometimes, as co-parenting did, but both he and Ines wanted to make sure they were doing right by Lucia. They wanted to make sure she got the chance to spend time with the both of them around the holidays. There was a bigger emphasis on her getting time with him considering she lived with her mother but sometimes that got hard. That was why he was so adamant on sending and replying to her owls. He wanted to make sure she knew how much he loved her even though they weren’t always able to spend time together. "I will definitely let her know. I know she’ll be glad to make them for the two of you." They crawled closer to where they needed to be to apparate and he listened intently while she answered his question about Olive, her parents, and her family. They sounded like a close-knit family; it was good that she could depend on her parents to be there for her when she needed something for Olive. She stated she was going to have to pull Olive out of daycare soon. "Has she started showing signs of magic just yet?" That was going to get a little tricky if she had since the daycare was a muggle one. She turned the question on him then, asking if his family was close and he scratched his head a bit in hesitation. "Definitely close. I’m an only child and I mostly grew up here in London because I went to Hogwarts but my parents move back and forth between staying in Puerto Rico and staying in Spain." His parents were well off; his father, his father’s father, and on and on all had accrued large amounts of money and so they were able to pass on the money down the line. "They come here occasionally too since they have property here."

Angie listened and found her mind wandering a bit when he told her about how he would share the time of his daughter with his ex wife for the holidays. That was so nice, she thought. She couldn’t imagine the idea of sharing Olive, but at the same time, she felt a bit of pain in her chest that Olive’s father still wouldn’t want to split his time with her. He didn’t want to take her to see his family, his family didn’t know she existed. Though, knowing the very little bit that Angie did know about Aerick’s family, she wasn’t sure she wanted them to know that Olive existed either. “What will you do for New Years?” she asked, wondering if they had a routine or plans. It may have been her way of fishing to see if they wanted to spend time together on that Holiday. Yadi agreed to ask his daughter to make bracelets for them and Angie smiled, it was a nice thought. One that surely would be treasured by Olive. “She hasn’t yet…” Angie said, almost with a bit of discouragement present in her voice. She was fairly sure that Olive wasn’t a squib, and she was still young, she still had a few years before it was odd that she wasn’t showing signs. But Angie was excited and it was hard to wait. He described the situation with his parents and family to her and she grew interested, “So where were you born, then?” she asked, realizing now that she hadn’t ever asked where he was from. Besides a couple of trips around Europe when she was young, Angie hadn’t really been anywhere, she’d love to go, though, she decided. “That’s great that you get to see them so often…” she almost added that she’d love to meet them, but she wasn’t sure if that was weird, since they were newly dating.

"We do something different every year,” he started out explaining when she asked about their plans, "it’s usually whatever she wants to do. I’m sure she’ll want to see you and Olive though. Did you two have any plans?" He didn’t know if she celebrated with her family for both holidays, like many did. Even if the two of them did, Lucia was definitely going to ask about seeing them after the holidays, before she had to go back to school. Lucia had really taking a liking to Olive and Angela equally, something he was really grateful for, now especially. He hadn’t really expected anything different but he was really glad for it. He gave another nod of understanding; she didn’t have to worry about anything just yet if Olive wasn’t showing signs of magic yet. Well, with all magical children around muggles there was always something to worry about but there was no urgency at the moment. When she asked him where he had been born, he smiled fondly at the memories that popped into his head immediately. "Spain. Even though we went back and forth a lot, I always loved Spain. Still love it to this day honestly. Playing for the Falcons though it makes things easier for me to stay here than there." As he spoke, the original happy memories were replaced by memories, small flashbacks of the decline of his marriage. He shook it off when he realized they’d reached the apparition point. "I probably should have asked but are you okay with sidelong apparating? It’s a quick trip from here that way but if you’d rather floo I’m fine with either." They’d apparated together before but it was still more courteous for him to ask; he wanted to be respectful of her wishes.

Angie loved hearing that Lucia would likely want to see the two of the them was when was here for the holidays. Angie liked the idea of the four of them together, it was nice that they all got along. “No, we usually don’t celebrate with my parents. We’ll go to their house on Christmas day for dinner, but we’re on our own for the morning.” she told him, wondering then what he would be doing without Lucia for Christmas day. “And we usually do New Years on our own too, Olive’s never made it to midnight yet.” she admitted. Maybe this would be the year that her baby had enough energy to stay up that late past her bedtime. “So we’d be happy to have company.” she told him, definitely not wanting to pressure anything, as it was still early in their relationship to expect that they would spend Holidays together, but she did want to if he was interested. He told her that he was from Spain and that made sense to her, she supposed, as to how he met Lucia’s mother, who lived in Spain. “That’s awesome, I’d love to visit Spain one day.” he admitted. Though she’d love to visit anywhere. “No I’m fine with sidealong.” she nodded her head. They had done it before and she was happy to do it again, what was the fun of being able to apparate if you didn’t use it? The Floo network would mess up her outfit, which she wasn't too precious about, normally, but this was a date, after all.

Yadi chuckled as she talked about their usual plans for the holidays, or lack thereof. Olive was still young so it wasn’t surprising that she didn’t make it to midnight. Lucia had made it to midnight a few times, getting better as she got older, but usually when she made it, she passed out minutes later because of the waning excitement one midnight had passed. Depending on where she fell asleep, he usually just placed a blanket over her and let her sleep. "If you don’t have any plans then and you and Olive are up for it, we could always get together to celebrate," he dropped casually with a smile on his face. He was sure Lucia would love ringing in the new year with Olive, but that was just an excuse for him to see her more. He wanted to ring in the new year with her. And then hear about it later from Lucia. He’d almost opened his mouth to mention being able to take her if she wanted to go but he thought maybe that was odd considering it was early in their relationship. He didn’t really think much of it; he had the funds to spend. It could be just another date; magic made it easier for them to travel anyway so going to Spain didn’t have to be a process.
He pulled his wand out of his pocket then at her acceptance of apparating before he checked the area around them. The apparition point didn’t look like anything special; they didn’t want to draw any attention to it just in case a muggle happened to be traveling this way. Without a word further, he pulled Angie close, tucking her into his side and wrapping an arm around her waist. And just being close to her like he was then made him want to kiss her. He found himself questioning if he should, then promptly wondered to himself if it really had been so long since he’d dated anyone for him to not know what was appropriate anymore. He waved his wand and wordlessly they were pulled into the spell, his stomach turning as they were pulled through to their destination. He held on to her firmly and focused to make sure he didn’t splinch either of them in the travel. When it was over, he landed on the family streets of Horizon Alley. "You ok?" he asked as he righted himself and faced her, arms instinctively going around her waist to steady her.

“We would love that.” Angie decided. She loved the idea of spending the new year with her boyfriend and his daughter, both of which, she adored greatly. And she knew that Olive would be thrilled to have them too, Angie wondered, sometimes, if it was possible that Olive adored the two of them more than Angie did. Maybe having Lucia there would help Olive stay awake. Angie certainly would stay awake. She had kissed a man at midnight on new years eve before, when she would go to parties at school and in the year that she was pregnant, since she hadn’t been showing yet, but not since Olive was born. It would be nice to be able to do that again, even if it was just a little kiss since their daughters would be at their feet. "it's a date, then."
He pulled her under his arm and into his chest and she couldn’t help but smile. It was nice to be so close to him, she felt her heart beating in her chest and prayed that he couldn’t feel it also, though she was close enough that she wouldn’t be surprised if he could. How long had it been since she had been this close to a man, or really, anyone who wasn’t her daughter, whom she still held all of the time despite her being 5 years old. He apperated the two of them and she felt her stomach lurch, but it wasn’t much different than the butterflies she was already feeling. They landed, both safely and she felt his arms around her waist when they did, steadying her on her feet. “Yes, I’m perfect.” she said quietly, without meaning to.
