Once a week, Rose made it a habit to write a letter to her parents to check in not only to let them know how she was but to also make sure they were okay. And with everything going on in the wizarding world as of late, it seemed like her trips to the owlery were becoming more and more frequent. Both of her parents worked in the Magical Law Enforcement Office, so they would most likely be working closely with the Minister and others to figure out who was behind all of this murdering business. Rose would be lying if she said she didn't worry about them. Especially lately. Of course they had assured her plenty of times that nothing would happen, and Rose knew they would be fine - after all, everyone knew who they were and what they were capable of. But Rose still worried.
Rose had written an extra long letter today, detailing her classes and schoolwork for the past week. No doubt her father would read it and pass it straight on to her mother to reply. When it came to school and work, Rose got on much more with her mother. They often discussed school and homework in their letters. Her father, though, was better when it came to advice and the silly, fun things. If Rose mentioned in a letter how her brother got himself into trouble in a class, you could bet that her father would have something smart to say. Rose smiled to herself as she pictured her mother scowling at her father for encouraging ill behavior. Rose loved her parents and she admired the love they had for one another. She could only hope that one day she could find a love like that.
The Weasley didn't let it show, but Rose desired a boy to have that relationship with so deeply. She had never had a boyfriend before. And perhaps it was superficial and materialisitic of her to want that, but she couldn't help it. She supposed it was the teenaged girl in her talking. At least she could admit that to herself. No one else would be hearing her say that, though. Rose kept very quiet when it came to personal matters unless you were one of her best friends. Otherwise, she was usually speaking out in class about an answer to a question or bossing others around. She was like her mother in every way she could possibly be. That was what gave her hope for finding a love that she could share with someone. If her mother could then she could, too!
As Rose walked up the stairs to the owlery, her mind was filled of different suitors who came to her with intent to ask her out. Life wasn't a fairytale, Rose knew that very well, but it never hurt one to daydream. In fact, Rose thought it healthy to daydream. If she wasn't in class, she was usually daydreaming in the library or reading some fairytale book. Rose believed that fairytales and daydreaming made one appreciate reality that much more. However, it often got her into trouble. For instance, as she was walking up the steps, she wasn't really paying attention to where she was walking and ran right into whoever it was walking out of the owlery. Rose fell flat on her bum at the top of the stairs, looking quite surprised. She quickly stumbled up to her feet, brushing off her coat. "I'm so sorry, I wasn't watching where I was going," she said, continuing to brush off her trousers as she avoided eye contact with whoever it was she ran into.

Scorps parents were... clingy. If he had his way he would have just disappeared into Hogwarts and forgotten about them until the holidays. It wasn't that he didn't love his parents, he really, really did, but he wanted to find a way to be on his own. To be his own person without their constant advice. His parents had come from similar family backgrounds and they tried very hard to teach Scorp the good things about it and what to avoid. His parents were very, very serious and careful with their parenting and even had an on-hand parenting coach when he was younger. They wanted to be the perfect parents.
The biggest thing, in their minds, was family. It was the most important thing on earth and they didn't want Scorpius to forget that, so they made darn sure that he remembered that every second of his life. He loved his parents and he loved how important he was to them, but they often became overbearing and almost suffocating with their love. They just tried really hard. However, this way of thinking has affected Scorpius deeply, and he knows that starting a family of his own should be his number one priority after his career. He completely believes in the idea that love can last forever.
The only problem was, Scorp didn't really think any girl was worthy of him. Not in a purist way, he doesn't care about blood, but in other ways. For example, Scorp knew that he was a genius and expected whoever he ended up with to be the same. Or, at least, be able to keep up with him. He also knew he was handsome and that was something important in a girl too. She also had to be patient, in order to deal with him. The list goes on.
After sending yet another letter to his parents, Scorpius turned to leave the Owlery, still with thoughts of this mystery girl on his mind, only to be slammed into by some brilliant person on his way out. "Hey, woah!" he said a little too harshly. He soon noticed that the girl was flat on the ground though, but before he could help her up she was standing and brushing off her coat. It was Rose Weasley. He shook his head and smirked, "I always find a way to knock you off your feet, don't I, Weasley?"

Rose had not been expecting anyone to be up in the owlery, as usual. So the fact that she had not really been paying close attention to what was in front of her was no surprise. But of all people she would have thought she may have bumped into, the person standing in front of her was one of the very last she ever could of thought to be up here with the owls.
"Scorpius," she said, trying to hide her surprise and gasp with putting on a blank, unimpressed look. Scorpius Malfoy. Son of Draco Malfoy, a.k.a. her father's worst enemy since his own school days in Hogwarts. The two weren't exactly expected to hold hands and sing "kumbaya." Scorpius was vein, narcisstic, and far too obsessed with trying to get girls to fawn over his good looks.
Or so it seemed. Truth be told, Rose could see more than that. She could obviously tell that Scorpius was an intelligent human being and Rose kind of respected him for that. But everything else? She found to be truly annoying and repulsive. From his personality, to his ego, to his... blonde hair and green eyes, and of course his body of a true Quidditch player and...
No. She did not think Scorpius Malfoy was at all attractive. No way, no how.
Rose folded her arms across her chest and narrowed her eyes at the... not cute Slytherin. "Very funny," she said with a sarcastic smile. Her eyes gave away the sarcasm, however. "Your charming pick up lines won't work on me, Malfoy," she rolled her eyes. But as she did avert her eyes a moment, something inside her felt like she had just told a lie... She let in a quiet breath and looked back at the Slytherin, eyes unwavering this time.

Scorp bowed a little when she said his name, giving her a smug smile as he did so. He so loved to torture the girl. He just couldn't help getting a kick out of that unimpressed smug look she gave him. The way her eyebrows knit together was... not cute. No, a different word. It was... entertaining. Yeah, that was a good one. "Rose," he responded, a little colder than his first comment. A first name for a first name, eh?
Really though, the way she glared at him wasn't something he could easily look away from. Scorpius could admire pretty girls, and Rose was one of those, but there was no way in hell that he'd say that to her. She was pretty, sure, but stubborn. Plus, Scorp needed a girl that could keep up with his intellect. Granted, Rose always had been pretty smart.... but no, it wasn't a good fit. Plus, the two had been rivals since day one.
As she let her insult slip through her lips and rolled her eyes, Scorpius couldn't help but shake his head. Her folded arms were just another example of how stubborn this girl really was. Scorp shrugged, folding his own arms, "Well, have it your way then. Just know," he leaned in a little and cocked an eyebrow, along with the corner of his lips, "Your missing out."
He got a little distracted by her eyes at that moment, and didn't lean back for some time. Actually, he wasn't really sure how long they had been staring each other down for before he finally pulled back and sighed, feigning boredom, "So, who are you sending letters to?" he asked, trying to sound uninterested.

Scorpius really knew exactly how to push Rose's buttons. When he said her name, Rose's eyes narrowed even more at him. They were ice cold. Why was he so revolting? It was like he did things to get on her nerves on purpose. When people usualy tried to get a rise out of Rose, she could easily brush them off and ignore them. Having many cousins really helped her with that. But Scorpius really just... rubbed her the wrong way. That fact only frustrated her even more.
Missing out? There he went, with the over the top ego. Rose scoffed, a sarcastic yet malicious smile appeared. "I'm sure," she replied, sarcastically with an eyeroll. Then soemething clicked in her head again. Something like... silent guilt? Like she was lying again. Why did she keep feeling that? It was beginning to frustrate her further, causing her to lash out more. But all the frustration was quickly replaced by shock when Scorpius leaned in toward her. She noticed the corner of his lips curved into a sort of wicked smirk then her eyes flickered up to his cocked eyebrow and then... his eyes. To her surprise, he was looking right back at her. And he wasn't looking away... and neither was Rose. Her mouth fell open the slightest bit to let out a breath in quiet shock before Scorpius finally pulled back away.
Rose began to blink furiously to hide her embarrassment. Why didn't she pull away first? She didn't look back at him until he spoke finally. Rose regained her composure, straightening back up and folding her arms across her chest again. She furrowed her brow and narrowed her eyes into another glare. "That's none of your business," she said matter-of-factly.

The way that her eyes narrowed at him made him feel that she was trying to burn a whole into his head. Actually, he wouldn't be surprised if he actually caught on fire because of it. He felt his stomach clench, no doubt in anger, as she stared daggers at him. He didn't show it though. He tried to look calm as he moved slightly in order to lean against the rail beside them. In the presence of Rose Weasley, it was wise to look as nonchalant as humanly possibly.
Her scoff was just another indication of their relationship, as was her scary smile. Her sarcasm was almost palpable, it make Scor smile. "You should be," he responded to her 'I'm sure' comment, "would it be easier for you if I just turned off the charm all together?" he said, trying to sound like he was doing this huge favor for her by not flirting with her. Really, it wasn't even to stop trying to be a charmer-especially around Rose. Her reactions just got a rise out of him and made him want to taunt her even more. Especially the way her mouth gaped open for a short moment-he knew he had stunned her.
The only problem was, he was feeling stunned too for a moment.
She looked away from him, and he was grateful when her eyes found him again. He didn't like awkward conversations without eye contact. Yup, that was the reason it bothered him when she looked away-obviously. She seemed to regain her confidence and he pulled his own stubbornness out as well. "Woah there, Horsie. I wasn't going to apprehend the letter or anything," he chuckled as she glared daggers once more. "Just tryin' to make small talk. But clearly we're not meant for that sort of thing, eh?"

His "charm" was something that Rose was certain would never work on her. But... what had that fleeting moment been when he had leaned in toward her? Rose blinked, shaking it off. It was best if they just treated one another as they normally did: cold. Rose nodded. "It would, thank," she said, curtly. But then her eyes widened shortly. The way she had worded that response, to her, made it sound like his charm had indeed worked on her. "Not that it was working in the first place, or anything," she quickly regained her composure, blinking a few more times to hide her embarrassment. Phew.
Rose rolled her eyes at the nickname "horsie." What a vile snake. She looked at him, eyebrows raised and waiting for a response. She pursed her lips. "No, I think not," she replied finally, sticking her nose back up in the air. After a moment, she glanced back at him. Something was compelling her to ask the question that was suddenly burning at the back of her mind. Rose was usually a blunt individual, and she wasn't about to let the likes of Scorpius Malfoy stop her from being herself. She looked back at the blonde Slytherin, her arms still folded defensively across her chest but her eyes much less harsh now. "Why are you trying to make small talk with me, anyway?" She asked, her curiosity loaded in her tone.

Scorpius loved it when her eyes widened, that's when he knew he had got her somehow. He didn't know how, but the look was enough to send a surge of pride through his body. Plus, she had basically just admitted that it was working on her. Well, until her next comment. "Sure, sure," he said nonchalantly, clearly showing that he didn't believe her for a second. "I mean, why waste my energy on you, right?" he said curtly while pretending to be extremely interested in his fingernails for a moment. He suddenly felt bad for saying that, in that way. But he quickly pushed that feeling aside, straightening up to look back into her face.
Her little eye roll just made him smirk even more, a smirk that was starting to turn into a smile. He leaned back a little when she replied that they were indeed not meant for small talk and he feigned a pouty expression. It was silent for a moment as she turned her nose up to him, and he leaned off the wall, almost ready to walk away. That was when he caught her eyes looking at him once again. He stopped. They were softer than before. "I dunno Rose," he said, honest confusion seeping in. Then he snapped a look of faux boredom onto his face, "maybe I was trying to be nice for once," he shrugged as if this wasn't the least bit interesting.

At Scorpius's words, Rose felt a short sting of what felt like pain... but she quickly brushed it far, far, away. She was not about to let something that Scorpius Malfoy said hurt her feelings. Why would she care anyway? He was always out to bother her and get a rise out of her. If he was anything like what her dad described of his own father, Scorpius was cruel and mean. Rose didn't hold grudges for things that happened in the past that had nothing to do with her, but something was just telling her to stay away from Scorpius. Or... maybe it was just herself telling her that.
Rose watched Scorpius carefully for a response. Not only in words but in his facial expressions. She really couldn't figure out why she cared so much, though. He seemed confused for a moment, but then went right back to looking bored. For a moment, Rose had felt something like hopeful anxiety rise up in her, but it had disappeared as soon as his bored expression came back. She rolled her eyes at him, annoyed and frustrated with him and herself. "Well, maybe you should try harder then," she scoffed at him, and brushed past him to make her way into the owlery. Silently, though, she hoped that he followed.
But then she cursed herself for even thinking that.

Scorpius wanted to take back saying that she was a waste of energy... but he couldn't do that without looking like he actually cared about her feelings. And he didn't. No, he just had to keep the bored expression on his face and in his posture. Suddenly, she was brushing past his lazy exterior and stalking into the Owlery.
Now what could he do? He had just been in there. Following her now would just prove that-no-would make it look like he cared about her. He stood there on the steps for a moment, his hands in fists. Finally, he just turned around and walked into the Owlery behind her. "Well, maybe I will try harder. If you'd stop being a little ice queen over here," he growled.
She was cute when she was angry, though.

Rose was having a mental war with herself. "Please follow. No, don't. But... please... do... don't!" She let out an audible frustrated scoff at herself. She couldn't make up her mind. She wanted to keep talking to him. She wanted him to follow her so that they could further speak but... then what? They had nothing to speak about. They were natural born enemies. Their fathers practically hated one another. What did she expect the two of them to do? Have tea together? Rose willed herself to stop humoring these weird and unusual thoughts she was having about the blonde Slytherin boy because she was definitely going to get himself into trouble. She began to look around for an owl, trying to distract herself to forget that he was standing outside the owlery when she heard footsteps behind her. Her heart leaped.
Scorpius came in. But why? Rose had given him the perfect opportunity to end the conversation and walk away. Some hopeful teenaged girl part of her thought that maybe, just maybe, he wanted to keep talking to her like she wanted to keep talking to him. But that was just silly. As said, they were natural enemies. Born to dislike one another. Forbidden to even speak, practically. If her father knew that Rose had been conversing with Scorpius Malfoy like this, even... Rose shook her head. The last thing she wanted to do was upset her father. The thought of her father put her in a more relaxed, better mood. Her father was her best friend and she would never disobey such orders as "stay away from anyone with the last name Malfoy." Those had been specific instructions on day one of school. That was easy, so Rose had thought. Then she actually saw Scorpius and well... it wasn't so easy to not think about him anymore.
Rose turned around, her chin up slightly. She wanted to reply with something backhanded and snarky but she couldn't bring herself to. She was all out of witty and crude remarks. She sighed, her chin lowering as she looked down at the ground a moment, collecting her thoughts. She was already regretting what she was about to say. "I'm sorry," she said a little more harshly than she intended, but she didn't cover up her tone. She looked back up at him, her face half blank, with the slightest look of apology. It was hard for her to express her true emotions around him for some reason... It was like she was stopping herself from showing how she truly felt. "The Ice Queen has left the building." She rolled her eyes but then rounded back on Scorpius, pointing her right index finger at him. "As long as you make more effort to be kind." She glared at him.

He was still trying to figure out why he had even followed her in there. He had finished and sent his letter, now he was just coming in here to what... torment her some more? He tried to act nonchalant, folding his arms over his chest and staring up at the owls as if they were amazing pieces of art. Why couldn't he get his feet to turn towards the door and back down the stairs? It was almost as if he was stuck in this room. But he had no good reason to be, but he needed to think of something quick.
His thoughts were interrupted when Rose turned to face him, her facial expression looking almost as if she was ready to slap him. He was surprised however when she looked at the ground and apologized, even if her apology was a little cold. He let his guard down a little and unfolded his arms, raising one eyebrow at her. She really seemed like she could be sorry... but it wasn't completely genuine. Still, he felt a little tugging at his stomach, satisfaction... satisfaction that she was apologizing for having such an attitude with him.
A smile tugged at the corner of the right side of his mouth as she went along with his 'ice queen' comment and pointed into his face. He felt bit of laughter bubbling up in his stomach as she glared at him. They really were standing rather close... he could easily just lean in and-wait, no. She was saying something. He regained his composure and nodded slowly, "Okay, okay. I promise I'll do my utmost. I wouldn't want the Ice Queen to freeze me out here," he laughed a little now because it actually was a bit chilly in the Owlery, considering it was out near the wintery air.
"Speaking of, you should hurry. It's actually pretty cold," he regretted saying those words the second they left his lips. First of all, she would probably get mad and say something along the lines of 'don't tell me what to do'. Second of all, what would happen after she had sent her owl? Where would they be then? "I mean, unless you still have to add to the letter or something," he tried to salvage the previous comment.

It was really eating at Rose that she had apologized and he hadn't. She wanted to lash out at him again for that but left it alone, figuring they had to reach an agreement at some point. They couldn't stay cooped up in the Owlery together arguing forever. Although... that didn't sound half bad to Rose.
Rose's eyes caught look of some "look" Scorpius had, as if he was thinking of something... Rose's lips parted for a moment as she wondered what it could be but then she snapped back to reality when he agreed to be a little nicer as well. Rose was surprised but glad she had gotten him to agree to it as well. Rose rolled her eyes at the "Ice Queen" joke again. "That ought to not become a new nickname, Malfoy. I swear I'll jinx you if I hear you mutter it again," she warned him, pointing an index finger at him again.
When Scorpius told her to hurry up, Rose furrowed her brow both in confusion and annoyance. What did he care? "I'm not forcing you to stay here, Malfoy," she said as she walked over to a free owl and pulled out her piece of parchment. "Except I'd love it if you... no. Stop it, Rose." She was having a battle with herself in her mind. He shouldn't stay... it would just cause trouble. "You followed me in here, after all." She said matter-of-factly. She unfolded her parchment and began to pretend to read over it. She knew she didn't have anything to add but she realized... she was dragging out this little visit to Owlery if only to be up here longer with the Slytherin that stood in front of her.

"Fine, fine," Scor agreed with a lighthearted chuckle as Rose promised to jinx him at the 'Ice Queen' nickname. Well, he'd have to rule that one out. If he was with anyone else, he would have chomped the air in a little mockery as if he was going to bite that finger she was pointing, but he didn't do it. Rose would probably not take something like that well... he looked away, towards the Owls on the walls. Something to momentarily distract himself.
"I'm just worried about you freezing to death," he snapped. Then he caught what he had said, "I'm worried about us freezing to death. But go ahead, take your time. Apparently I'm just a lowly stalker who has nothing better to do but lose his fingers to frost bite. So, by all means," he stepped over to the wall, turning his back to it and leaning against it, trying to act nonchalant.
DANG! That wall was cold! But he couldn't move now. What had he gotten himself into...

Silently, Rose wanted Scorpius to call her some sort of pet name. But she couldn't help but want affection to be behind the reasoning for such a pet name. Truth be told, she would let him call her "Ice Queen" all day if it meant she could just spend all day around him. But she had to keep up the charade. Her father would positively have a cow if she came home with a boy, much less a Malfoy. He was the very definition of forbidden fruit. As Scorpius looked over at the owls on the wall, Rose watched him. She couldn't help but look him up and down as she did so. She bit her lip, wondering what it would be like to get closer than just being across a room from him.
His snap brought her back to reality and how she was still across the room from him and she could never be closer than that. Rose had, however, caught what he had said. She raised an eyebrow but her lips parted slightly in surprise at his words. "us". But... he had said he was worried about her. He was so frustrating! The Ravenclaw turned her back to him to send off her letter as he went to lean against the wall. Rose summoned down an owl and seemed to quickly and hastily tie the letter to his leg. With a rude "coo" the owl took off, clearly annoyed with how haste Rose was being with him. With a heavy sigh and a roll of her eyes, Rose turned back around to face Scorpius.
Rose crossed her arms, standing up straight. She looked at Scorpius with one raised eyebrow. She wasn't about to lean against the cold wall but she had no intention of leaving the owlery until he did. She tilted her head to the side and then narrowed her eyes at him. "Why are you really still here, Scorpius?" She asked accusingly. She had never called him anything other than "Malfoy" before. She honestly couldn't recall when she had called him by his first name. She... liked how it sounded outloud. It sounded better than it did in her head.
