January 1, 2026 @cashel Renfri's day had been... interesting to say the least. She'd spent the night with a gorgeous and troubled stranger. After he'd left she'd gotten a message from Casimir about some "magical island" and having passage to go if she was interested. Of course she'd said yes. Cas hadn't mentioned how he got passage, but seeing the man interact with the captain she had a suspicion that they were friends, or at least old acquaintances. She'd spent the day exploring this island with Cas, taking note and pictures and also having some equally interesting conversation...
Now that the sun was setting the ship that had brought them to the island was leaving, ferrying them back. She and everyone else that were being ferried had been told to stay on top deck. While she didn't know what these sailors did, she could respect their privacy in that sense. They didn't want these strangers snooping. So, Renfri had taken a seat up against a few crates, an enchanted blanket around her shoulders to fight the bitter ocean cold. She'd spelled an orb of light to hover around her shoulder, and had her notebook in her lap, flipping through the pages of her notes. She'd been taking notes the entire day, so as not to forget anything she'd seen. Overall, her thoughts of the place were.... undecided. The place was definitely a magically potent place, and the ruins they'd found old. But it was clear that one day's observation wasn't nearly enough. No doubt Gringotts would be having Curse breakers investigating it for weeks and months to come. It was the discovery of the century, easily.
From somewhere else on deck she heard chatter from the sailors. She wasn't listening to closely, but heard something about "scouting". A moment later, a sailor disappeared below deck. Renfri didn't pay it any mind. She set her notebook down, rubbing her eyes with her hand. Ugh, she wished she could stay. There was still so much she didn't know or understand. But she knew once the term started she wouldn't get a chance to see this island until at least Summer. Pulling her hand from her face she reached into her bag and pulled out a flask. It wasn't her usual enchanted flask (as Rhys had rudely borrowed it), so unfortunately the whiskey inside wasn't nearly as endless as she'd like. But it'd at least take some of the edge off. She popped it open and took a long sip, then closed it.
She closed her eyes, leaning her head back against the crate. Just trying to process the events of the day, and what this new discovery meant to the world.

Receiving a summons back to the ship so early had been a disasters end to an amazing night. Intending to be miserable, it had ended with him in bed with a beautiful stranger. Upon returning to the ship, he was told about a strange island, and that they would be ferrying one of Bjorn's old friends, and a group to it. Not having many duties as they shipped out, Ri made his way down into the inner workings of the ship, a place their guests were forbidden from going. He worked on his large still. There were a few weeks and adjustments that needed to be made before he started his newest batch of moonshine. As he worked, the room grew hotter and hotter, shedding down to a tank top as he worked.
Many left to explore the island, but knowing his luck or lack there of, he felt it wasn't right to risk it. Especially being a Druid, he felt it unwise to tempt the monster every young druid was told about in stories and legends. The hangover potion that the woman had given him had worked wonders, as he worked through the day, finally starting to bottle his latest batch, he used some to top off his enchanted flask. There were times when his mind wondered to the previous night, and the woman he had bonded with. And while he felt the string of attachment, he also knew that he was a pirate, traveling to the whims of their captain. True, the captain had a girlfriend. This didn't change the fact that he feared that he would never see her again. But it was easy for him to come to terms with that.
As he was sealing the tops up, he hard someone come down, thumping their heavy boots. Being told that the captain wanted him to go up for scouting. That was a regular request. He easily had the best eye sight, especially as an eagle. They were in unfamiliar waters, and by the amount of work he had done, he guessed that it was getting late. Finishing the sealing on his latest bottle, he sett it down safely and headed up to the deck. Getting on deck, things were quite dark, but he had been working in soft lighting for the past while anyway. He felt the cool air on his bare skin, wearing long jeans, his chunky boots and a simple tank top. His eyes quickly adjusted, and he surveyed his surroundings, stopping to spot a very familiar face. Renfri? He didn't have time to say anything, he had a job to do, moving to the helm he found the captain, quickly taking flight he surveyed the area. Landing with a thud, once again a man he reported that all was quiet. He'd resume his visual in a bit to check. After that, he had something he needed to do.
He walked up to the woman, softly speaking. "If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were following me."

January 1, 2026 @cashel
Renfri's mind had begun to wander. She kept her eyes closed but could feel the bitter cold on her face, hear the waves crash into the sides of the ship, and the wind rushing past. It lulled her back to her thoughts of last night. Those green eyes that had stared into her soul. She opened her eyes just long enough to snap her fingers, letting the orb of light at her shoulder extinguish. She knew she wouldn't get any more work done on her notes today. While the thoughts and memories were fresh, they were being overpowered by other new memories.
She shifted, readjusting the blanket around her shoulders and took another swig from the flask, then closed her eyes again. She didn't want to dwell on the one night stand, but yet... she was. To be honest it had been a long time since she'd slept with anyone, and even longer since she'd slept with someone she actually felt a connection with. The last one had been Cas, years ago. Though they were simply friends now.
Renfri had been ready to pass the few hours it would take to sail back to Scotland when she heard a voice. A voice that was intensely familiar at the moment, and jolted her from her thoughts. Immediately she opened her eyes, tilting her head up to see... Ri. The handsome and mysterious stranger from last night. The hell was he doing here? After a moment to process his sudden appearance she laughed. "Fancy meeting you in the middle of the ocean." She commented, grinning just a little. "You didn't mention you were a sailor." What an insane coincidence. The man she'd spent the night with worked on the ship. The same ship that Casimir had arranged to ferry himself and others to the mysterious island. And he just so happened to ask her. "An old colleague invited me to go with him to the island. I suppose he's friends with your captain." At least from how she'd seen the two men interact.

When they had met, Ri had felt that she was more than what she appeared to be. They hadn't had a very deep conversation. They mostly focused on small talk. Though he was suppressed to see where there. Walking over to her, the area was dark, he worried about waking her, but felt as though he needed to talk to her again. This was very rare, and he was sure that those on the crew who knew him well would find this odd. She seemed as shocked as he was, opting to laugh after some time.
Crouching down to be more on her eye level he gave a small smile, he didn't know why, but he was happy that she was there. She mentioned that he never said that he was a sailor, and he paused. Honestly, he didn't feel like a traditional sailor, but no one was to know that the ship could fly, so he shrugged. He took a chance to glance up at his captain, seeing the man near by. he nodded. "Their old friends."
He shuffled, pulling out his flask from one of his pockets. It was small and metal, with some druid symbols on it and some hard scratches from times he had to catch it as an eagle. "Been working on this." He shook the bottle a little, it being full now.

Renfri couldn't help but notice as he got closer and crouched down next to her that he was definitely under dressed for the weather. She'd spent the night exploring his body, it wasn't like she hadn't seen him in far less. But it was still very attractive. Of course, eyeing someone on the deck of a ship, where anyone could see seemed like a rather tactless move. She shifted, leaning forward a bit so she could drag the blanket from around her shoulders with her good arm, and pulled it into her lap. "Care to join me? If you're free." She offered. He could still have work to do, after all. But she would admit... She'd enjoyed his company last night.
He confirmed her thoughts, that they were old friends, then fished out a flask and told her he'd been working on "this". While she recognized it as a alcohol flask, that did little to explain much of what "this" was. She raised an eyebrow, eyeing the flask and the symbols carved into it and the deep scratches. It reminded her a bit of her own flask, only because of how beat up it was from years of abuse from Curse breakers. "Oh? And what exactly is "this"?"

She moved the blanket onto her lap and invited him to join her, with a nod, he moved to sit next to her/ "I'll need to get up periodically, but I'm free now." He sat close to her, leaning back. It gave a fair view of the deck, while still being out of the way. There were many who seemed tired after the long day. He moved, placing one arm across her shoulder, letting her feel the heat still coming off his skin.
Pulling out his flask he showed her his flask, not fully realizing that it wasn't clear what exactly he had been working on. Asking what it was, he opened it and took a swig. After that he put his arm around her, speaking softly. This is my own blend of alcohol. It contains druid mushrooms." That was one ingredient he was very open with. Those who drank it should really know that such a strong hallucinogens was infused in the clear liquid.

Renfri felt a slight flutter in her chest when he joined her. She wouldn't say it, but she was... happy he'd accepted the offer. Once passionate night with the silent man hadn't been enough. Though as he settled next to her, so close and and arm moving around her shoulders she couldn't help but lean in jsut a touch. He was warm, despite the cold night air. The heat wouldn't last forever, but no doubt the air would feel nice to him, considering just how much heat he was giving off. She, of course, happily accepted said heat. She'd spent the entire day outdoors.
Once settled he took a swig from the flask, then explained what it was. With her good hand she reached out, running her fingers over some of the symbols. She didn't know Druid symbols that well, just enough to recognize them. "Mushrooms? You mean those mushrooms?" She asked, eyebrows raised. Those mushrooms, meaning the ones that glowed and were a very potent drug. God, when was the last time she'd messed with those? As a "teacher" some might be surprised by her very not conservative actions. Because... yes, she most definitely had tried the druid mushrooms before. "Need a taste tester?" Of course she'd ask. Because being the borderline alcoholic she was, she was now insanely curious about how alcohol would taste with magic mushrooms.

Ri was not the type to be "romantic" no matter how he felt. But he felt comfortable around this woman, and was happy when she leaned into him. Thoughts of her, and last night flooded his mind, leaving those of the ship, captain, and responsibilities to fall away. In that moment, it seemed to be just the two of them. And while he wouldn't admit it, he was happy.
He explained the contents of the container, she seemed entreated. Glad that she wasn't turned off by the idea of an illegal substance being in it he nodded as she clarified. "Not easy to get, but we've got our ways." Unfortunately he wasn't allowed to set foot on the island, so he had to get the item from another. He chuckled a little and handed it over. "This is my latest batch, I'll be exploring a few different avenues later. With his arm around her, he squeezed lightly, bringing their bodies ever closer.

Renfri wouldn't classify herself as someone that often took part in "illegal" actions, but during her curse breaker days there had definitely been a lot of questionable choices. Curse breaking wasn't a glamorous job, and she'd spent much of her career in back water, out of the way places. Run down, grungy places where the law was whoever had the most control. At least that experience told her, while she wanted to try this concoction of his, she had to take it in moderation. She could handle her alcohol, no doubt. A trait he'd seen last night. But magical mushrooms was a completely different story.
But hey, Renfri was a bit of a daredevil. She didn't step away from a challenge. "Fun things are never easy to get." She answered, before accepting the flask from him. She turned it over in her hand, examining the symbols for moment, before popping the top. She brought it to her nose, to inhale deeply. It reminded her of the moonshine she'd had in America. The sort that was clearly not distilled in a proper distillery. So, she took a slow sip. She closed it, and took a minute to savor the taste. Renfri wasn't the type to flinch at alcohol, no matter how strong. The only one that she knew could make her flinch was that god awful whiskey she, Jasper, and Rhys drank but that was because it was shit whiskey and not because of it's strength. This... was very potent. She could feel the burn in her throat. But then there was the woodsy flavor, probably from the mushrooms. It was... nice. Something she could see herself drinking regularly. Though she would need to see how the mushrooms hit her first before making a habit of it. "Tastes like you've been making it quite a while." She finally commented, leaning into him as he squeezed her shoulder. His hand was right about where she lost feeling in the arm, just high enough that she could still feel his touch. "If I start hallucinating you'll make sure I don't try to jump overboard, right?" She teased, grinning just a bit. She hadn't taken a huge drink, so she wasn't worried about hallucinating that much.

His drink was strong, and for those who had never had it, it had the tendency to knock you off your feet. But after seeing her drink selection, and amount, last night....he wasn't worried about her.
He nodded as she mentioned that "fun things are never easy to get." That was the truth. Then she took the flask, he waited to see her drink, a feeling of anticipation. Something he had never really felt before. True, he was nervous when he first started on the process to perfect the drink. Now he had a good product, true he continually worked to better it, but he normally wasn't nervous or anxious to have someone try it. But Renfri was different, deep inside, he wanted her to like it. She really did know her alcohol, she first smelled it, and then took some in. Not realizing he was holding his breath, he waited for her reaction. Nodding he was glad she could tell the time and work that went into it. "About four or five years now." Enjoying the moment, he moved closer to her, nodding. "I won't let you go over." He was sure it would be too bad with the amount that she had taken in. He gently took the flask from her hand, and took a nice drink of it. Knowing that he needed to pace himself, handing it back to her, "Can't over do it tonight, drunk birds didn't fly well" He already knew that she knew that he was a bird animagus, and he knew that from experience.

Four or five years. Renfri nodded, realizing that she was drinking a well perfected product. It had gone down pretty smooth. Renfri sensed this was one of this deceptive liquors. Where it’s taste didn’t give away its potency.. or maybe she just wasn’t fazed by new alcohol after everything she’d tried. But still. She’d liked it. She also liked this current position, sitting next to him. Shoulders touching, his arm around her. She shifted a little, bringing her legs closer and brushing against his own. ”Glad to hear.” she answered, though she hadn’t been too worried.
As he mentioned drunk birds she laughed. She knew he was a bird animagus from her school days but she hadn’t considered how magic mushroom laced alcohol might affect flying. ”Sounds like a worse idea then drunk cats.” She commented. She’d been drunk jaguar form before. It was an experience. Though... she hadn’t told him she was an animagus last night.

He promised that he wouldn't let her go over, and that was one that he could keep. Especially as the resident man who regularly went overboard. She curled up more into him. He liked this current state, and it seemed as though she did too. He shifted so that their bodies fit together, not wanting to move.
Mentioning drunk birds, she mentioned a drunk cat. With his lips curling up ever so slightly, he looked at her. Reading into her comment, understanding that she was probably the drunk cat. As she curled into him, he could see cat like behavior at it's finest. He leaned his head closer to her, letting her find lean into him. he dreaded for the time he had to leave to check the area once more. He listened to the sound of the ocean, the waves crashing against the ship, feeling the gentle rock as it traveled through the evening, the sky getting darker. He'd have to check once more before it got too dark. Eagles weren't night hunters after all.

It was a little ironic. His being a bird animagus and her a cat. Natural food chain order out her higher then him. But to be honest cat was an understatement for what she was. She was a Jaguar. But the same could be said for him. She didn’t remember what type of bird he was but she did remember it had been large. She leaned her head on his shoulder, closing her eyes and taking a slow breath. Letting the smell of the salty ocean fill her lungs. Then.. that woody smell, the one the alcohol had. She realized it wasn’t just the alcohol. Ri smelled the same. She opened her eyes a moment. He’d already handed the flask back to her, so she opened it and took another slow sip. Then, she closed her eyes again.
It was... nice. This silence. Renfri typically wasn’t silent like this, but she wasn’t a social butterfly either. Ri clearly was the silent type though, It didn’t bother her. It was a comfortable silence. She knew this moment wouldn’t last forever though, as he probably still had work to do. But she savored it while it lasted.

Ri rested his head on hers, letting his eyes closed, something that he rarely did up on deck, around strangers. But with her head on his shoulder, and his arm around her, it just felt right. He was comfortable, and relaxed. Unfortunately this moment couldn't last forever. They were on the Jolly Rodger, no matter what name their guests new it as. He was a crew mate, and he knew he had a job to do. He longed to forget, he wished to stay just like that. To once again fall asleep with her next to him.
As expected, he heard the captain, yelling his last name from the helm. Opening his eyes, he gently nudged her. Keeping his head close to hers he whispered ever so softly, "Want to see something cool?"
Softly and slowly, he reluctantly moved form her and went to the edge of the deck, Jumping onto the rail he jumped off, instantly transforming into a golden eagle. Normally he would let him fall some before transforming, but he didn't want to get wet. On top of that, a part of him wanted to show off. He flew around the ship, looking as far as he could. Making a few laps of the ship, he flew higher and higher, being sure he saw all he could. He even deviated a bit, seeming to check something out. Landing near the captain he reported. "Storm clouds far to the west, sure it wont come our way." He could feel the wind, almost like having a conversation. While he loved traveling through storms, the excitement that he longed for, he preferred to keep the ship away form that tonight. "There's another ship some ways to the east, unsure of it's crew or intent, best be mindful." Without another word, and not waiting to hear the captains words he knew the man was thinking, Ri walked away, back down to the deck and resumed his spot next to Renfri, wrapping his newly warmed body into hers as they were before.

Alas, the moment ended and Ri pulled himself away. She sat up, eyeing him as he moved to the railing and asked if she wanted to see something cool. She raised an eyebrow. Then she grinned as she saw what he was about to do ”Fly safe.” and then he was gone and she got her first look at his bird form in year. And he was a great bird. Some sort of large bird of prey. It was hard to tell the exact species in the darkening sky.
He was gone for several minutes. During they time she took another swig from the flask, then leaned her head back against the crate again. She shifted the blanket across her lap, so it covered her body a little better. She was starting to feel the alcohol. It wasn’t bad. Just a bare buzz. It was the mushrooms that were starting to hit full force. She’d been careful how much she drank, to see how it would affect her when it finally kicked in. She’d had stronger, but it had been a while. Her body felt warm and she could feel phantom pains in her dead arm, her fingers tingling on her good arm.
It was around then she felt someone settle next to her, and arm wrapping around her. Her eyes opened just in time to see those stunning green eyes. She stared into his eyes, silent for several, breathless moments. Then, and this was most definitely the mushrooms, she kissed him.
