FEBRUARY 2026 The Annual Night Scrimmage. It was a tradition passed down years ago amongst quidditch playing students who were willing to break the rules in the name of quidditch. Since it required being out of bed past curfew, only the bravest and most idiotic pupils would trek to the quidditch pitch in the dark, cold, night for a risky after-hours game. It wasn't easy to get everyone to agree to participate, the tradition was to merge teams for one night only. For some, that was the dealbreaker on why they refused to participate. Simon had no problem playing quidditch with anyone who wanted to play. Just no narks or cry babies allowed.
It was important the night game remained secret, so the players relied solely on word of mouth. Friends were welcome to attend as long as they stayed quiet and out of sight, also highly encouraged to wear black. Simon heard many whispers throughout the day about the event, so he was curious to see the turn out. Even Lily Potter agreed to be a decoy for the night which he found equally hilarious and resourceful. This was sure to be interesting.
Simon carried the quidditch trunk out of the shed and dropped it on the grass with a dusty thud. The trunk jolted aggressively from the bludgers strapped inside, threatening to break free at any moment. Simon was the first to show up to the rendezvous because he snuck out for a solitary smoke behind the pitch before the festivities. It wasn't long until the half vampire noticed a couple of people quietly making their way to the pitch so he gave them a casual nod and lazy wave. "Hey. Suup?" he greeted coolly, "Glad you could make it. Are you ready to play some fooookin quidditch?" he asked enthusiastically in a comical hype whisper yell, punching his fists in the air. He already knew he was going to struggle being quiet. More familiar faces started to trickle into the pitch.

February 2026 Stealth was a skill that Dasha had developed relatively early in life but never for the purpose of playing Quidditch. The sport itself was a new interest of hers, too, after she had decided to try out for the Ravenclaw team upon starting at Hogwarts the previous September. Always eager to find new ways to improve her abilities as a Seeker, she had heard from some of the other players about a practice session being held late at night—reportedly something of a tradition—and weighed the pros and cons of it before deciding that it wouldn't be a terrible idea… even if it was technically skirting school rules. Still, Dasha reasoned, she needed to know how to fly well at night, and it was hardly the worst possible offense.
Dasha knew better than to say anything about where she was planning to be, slipping out of Ravenclaw Tower before she could get caught by any of the prefects. She hung close to the pitch and spent some time readying the broomstick that she had been using from the selection that the school provided for student use. It wasn't the newest broom, nor did it have the best features; she simply had to make do with what she had available to her. Even though she was hesitant about approaching her brother Dmitri to ask him if she could get a proper racing broomstick, Dasha felt that it had been a good learning experience to understand how to maneuver a broom that wasn't using the latest technology. Besides, the Firebolt was sturdy and reliable, so she couldn't really ask for much more.
She carried the broom out onto the pitch, dressed in black as she had been asked (plus the addition of her Quidditch gear), and noticed that Simon Svendsen, the Gryffindor team captain, was getting the trunk that contained the balls. Catching the Snitch on a cold February night, the sky pitch black, would make for an interesting experience, she felt, though her eyes had begun to adjust to the darkness. There were a few others arriving, too. The students present were going to be from all different Houses and years, which would give her experience in working with students other than those who were on the Ravenclaw team. They would get better insight into each other's playing styles, and that would only help them on the pitch during their real matches.
Really, it was an exciting prospect, and Dasha nodded as Simon asked if they were ready to play. "Yes," she acknowledged, her voice at a whisper. She tried to keep her footsteps soft on the grass, though that wouldn't be a problem once up in the air.

Friday wasn’t much of a Quidditch player. It was a fun enough sport and he had played it a few times but he never considered it his thing exactly. Dueling was far more fun. Team based sports were great and all but not exactly his bag. Still when he heard the hushed rumors of a Quidditch game happening in the middle of the night he had to join in. Even if it was just watching and hanging out. Yet if they needed players he was perfectly ready to join in this time around. Apparently this was a Hogwarts tradition. Something Friday wished Ilvermorny had more of. Still they had their own traditions that Hogwarts didn’t have too. They just felt a little less important now that they weren’t at Ilvermorny for another year.
While Friday loved new experiences, he still missed his old school. Something about the familiar halls and his old house just called to him. Unlike Hogwarts. Friday dressed in dark clothes and “borrowed” his brothers broom from his locker. His was rather beat up from the misuse Friday gave it. Trying to out fly the whomping willows’s limbs didn’t end up well for his broom. He just hadn’t told anyone in his family or they might get annoyed he needed yet another broom. He met a few of the other people out on the field. One of them he knew as Simon, the Gryffindor quidditch captain, was setting up the balls. In an almost yelling whisper he asked if they were ready to play. “Let’s go.” Friday replied in the same whispered tone. He could only imagine how long it might take them to get caught but he thought it was worth it. “Let’s make this possible detention worth it.” Friday added with a laugh holding up his broom in the air with one arm.

FEBRUARY 2026 There was a decent turnout and it seemed that students were still slowly trickling into the dark pitch. The half-vampire wanted to get the shenanigans started sooner than later in case they got caught. When Friday mentioned that he wanted to make the detention worth it, he bobbed his head up and down in fervent agreement. "That's the spirit!" he exclaimed in that same exaggerated whisper as he chuckled. It was hard to be quiet on the quidditch pitch because he was used to projecting while talking to his teammates in that environment. "Wicked to see some 'new' faces out here, mate" he told his fellow Lion with a wave, gesturing to the broom Weekly was carrying. He wasn't on the Gryffindor quidditch team but he looked like he could hit a bludger or help knock someone off a broom if he wanted to. "What position do you prefer to play?" he asked since he was going to be on his team regardless, being a Gryffindor.
"Hey Dasha," he pointed at the Ravenclaw seeker with a wave to come forward, "You get the honors of selecting who's playing together.." he instructed with a mischievous smile and dancing eyebrows, "Put your hand in the hat and grab two papers." he held out a red and black Ballycastle Bats quidditch hat, gesturing for her to look away and pull two of them. The first two slips in her hand would one be a team, and the two remaining in the hat would be another.
This would be interesting. Simon hoped Slytherin would play with Slytherin on the same team since he knew his sister Sofia was an excellent beater and was capable of playing any position if needed. Well, considering if she didn't decide to wuss out on tonight's festivities.

February 2026 While Simon conversed mostly with another one of the Gryffindor boys—a boy named Friday Weekly, though Dasha was still in disbelief that anyone would name their child that—he did then turn his attention back to her, addressing her by name. He motioned at her to come forward towards him, and she did. "You get the honors of selecting who's playing together," he added, though she didn't know how to react with as goofily as Simon was behaving towards that supposed "honor". "Put your hand in the hat and grab two papers," he told her, holding out a red and black hat in her direction.
When he gestured for her to look away, Dasha had to trust that he wasn't going to prank her with something else in the hat. With caution, she moved her broom to one hand and shut her eyes. As she reached her free hand into the hat, she moved quickly, half expecting that she would be bitten by something. Luckily, all that she could feel was the presence of four slips of paper, as promised. She felt around inside the hat, plucking one of the slips and then another, grasping them somewhat awkwardly between her fingers so that she only had to do it once.
She lifted her hand back out of the hat. The two slips of paper were still wedged between her fingers, but she didn't look at them. "Okay," she answered Simon, holding out her hand so that he could see the results.

Lulu bolted toward the quidditch pitch with her broom slung over her shoulder. Addy agreed to meet up with her at the pitch after "lights out" so she was pumped for what the night had in store. She wasn’t sure how many Slytherins would show up to play, and admittedly, she wasn’t expecting many snakes to participate since they didn’t always play well with others. Lulu liked the idea of playing with other people because she could learn their weak spots and use them against the other players when they least expected it.
After stopping on the way to smell some roses, she noticed there was a small group of students already forming at the quidditch pitch. The sight of the other kids made her break into a run. There were a lot of students that she recognized from playing quidditch and quite a few she had never seen before. She felt the excitement boiling over inside.
As she approached the group, she tapped on the cute Weekly brothers opposite shoulder before ducking the other direction wordlessly. She really didn’t know him that well, but she knew his brother and had been to his house on NYE, so he was basically an acquaintance. The Gryffindor Captain seemed to be getting things organized so she was relieved she didn't miss anything.
Lulu tried to keep her voice low and failed. ”Howdy Doody, All” she greeted with a wide smile and some jazz hands accompanied with a little jig. She sucked in a deep breath, still breathless from sprinting over. "Who's playin' who?" she asked quickly, excited to get the game started.

we won't hear a word they say They don't know us anyway Addy clenched her jaw. Suffice to say that this wasn’t a normal activity for her, being out after hours and as a recently appointed Captain no less. And how this had become a tradition for so long without the usual repercussions—well, she hadn’t a clue. But Brigh had pushed her to do this, especially since she was a Captain now, and it was really in the spirit of the game and good sportsmanship. On that last note, she tended to roll her eyes and scoff. Addy liked to win and nothing less than that. After speaking with her team the day before she’d agreed to meet the ones that wanted to show up, Lulu had been excited, and Addy figured she would be there already since Addy herself was dragging her feet a bit.
With her broom over her shoulder and goggles sitting on her forehead in their usual ready position, she walked down to the pitch and noted voices hardly being quiet. As she approached, she spotted the familiar faces of her rivals—Simon, the Gryffindor Captain with whom she shared a friendly rivalry as well as Lulu and other players. The first thing that popped into her mind as she didn’t spot any yellow scarves or robes was wondering if Cheese would show up. Perhaps Brigh was on her way to drag him by his ears. ”Hey Lulu.” She greeted her longtime teammate and friend, and she looked at the assembled group, mainly addressing the other Captain. ”We pick teams yet?” Addy stood tall as usual, despite her short frame. Despite her nervousness at all the rules they were breaking, she wasn’t about to let that sway her confidence.

February 2026 Now, Brody certainly wouldn't have minded having some time on the pitch with the rest of the Hufflepuff team, but the idea of playing a scrimmage game with players from other Houses was tempting. He knew that he wasn't the best player on the pitch, nor did he pretend to be. While played quidditch for the enjoyment of it, he also enjoyed a little healthy competition every now and then, and he was excited to see what would come of the friendly matchup.
Having come wearing all black, which made him feel slightly strange, Brody walked out onto the pitch where the other players were gathering. From what he could see, it looked like it would be Chaser-heavy and that some of them might need to switch positions for the sake of the match. They had Dasha, the new Ravenclaw Seeker, so that gave them one Seeker they could use, and Friday Weekly wasn't normally on the Gryffindor team. As he approached, it was clear that the others, too, were trying to work out the logistics of who would belong to each team.
Not having heard how they were going to be running things, especially with such limited time to spare if they didn't want to end up in detention, Brody looked around. "Are we picking teams," he began, though he was admittedly unsure about that prospect and found that it was sort of unfair, "or doing some sort of House-versus-House thing?"

february 2026Catsie was wearing a black turtleneck and trackpants enchanted to resist the weather. All of her quidditch protective gear had been enchanted to be a midnight black color just for the occasion. She had even gone ahead and painted her nails. As she blew on her dark glittery fingertips she quickly realized that she was running late. As usual. "Shoot, shoot," she muttered under her breath as she shook her hands quickly. Her nails magically dried off and she tied her long brown hair into a high ponytail with a fluffy black scrunchie.
Her footfalls were soft even as she ran. It was a consequence of growing up hunting. You just learn to be a bit quieter. The slightest movement or noise would scare an animal away. As she approached the quidditch pitch that evening she couldn't help but feel like she was a hunter of sorts. Tonight's prey? A good time! The sixth year waved heartily at simon sixten svendsen on her way to the pitch. There were already a ton of people gathered or more than she thought would be comfortable with breaking the rules. She particularly eyed addilyn elara slater with surprise. Slytherin's captain didn't seem the type to come to this sort of thing.
"Whut'd I miss?" Catsie asked Simon with a wide cheeky grin. Surely her captain was used to her being fashionably late by now. "Looks like ye waited fer me. Awe! 'Ow sweet o' ye!" Her voice was lower than usual, but not quite a whisper. She figured if they were going to get caught it wasn't going to happen because they didn't use their indoor voices.
ooc: Oh hello! Don't mind if I do.

FEBRUARY 2026 More students quickly started to join the group. "Glad everyone can join us, we're selecting teams now..." he greeted the swarm of questions about who was playing who. Simon was happy to see more of a turnout than he was expecting. It looked like there would be enough people for each position, as long as people were open to trying to play a new position. As much as Simon favored being a Chaser, he'd volunteer for Beater tonight because he had more confidence in himself than shoving someone randomly in the position. He knew he'd be able to keep the bludgers away from his team. "Alright....drum roll please..." he said, looking at Dash who hesitantly reached into the hat. The look on her face showed she was half expecting him to prank her, which made him smile and chuckle. "It's okay, it won't bite ya.." he assured her, eyes flickering with jest.
Dash pulled out the first two slips, one yellow, the other blue. "Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw...." he announced, "Which leaves Slytherin and Gryffindor." Simon said quickly, happy with the results. He held out a bin of glowsticks with house colors: yellow for Hufflepuff, green for Slytherin, blue for Ravenclaw, and pink for Gryffindor. "Don't ask how I acquired these. Give 'em a crack and shake, and wear them somewhere on person or broom. These will help us remember who's on what team so we don't kill each other. he instructed, trying to keep his voice low as he demonstrated cracking and shaking a glow stick to possible magical folks who had never seen such a thing. It was a struggle to stay quiet when hyped up about his favorite sport, he wasn't sure how he'd be able to stay quiet while in the air. This would be interesting.
Simon clapped to break, already knowing a clap was too loud so he winced. "Okay, we have five minutes to break into teams, warm up, whatever. Remember to stay quiet..." he urged with a chuckle, already knowing that purple-haired snake and her friends would be the problem children. The half-vampire wasn't concerned about getting caught...it wasn't like all of the quidditch players would be expelled from participating in a tradition.
Well, he was pretty sure...as long as no one died.
(FYI: I pulled from a hat for results!! haha)

Silence is the loudest, Parting word you never say. I put your world Into my veins Now a voiceless sympathy Is all that remains. The Annual Night Scrimmage was something that had been a tradition for years and had passed down from generation to generation. But, it was mostly for those students that were willing to break the rules, those that didn't care what would happen if they were to get caught. Though, so far, she hadn't exactly heard of that happening. But, if the teachers knew about it, they surely didn't stop it. Even though it was to remain a secret, she was sure some weasel had let it slip in the past in the presence of a teacher, and yet, each year, it happened again and again. And it was happening again tonight, and she had heard about it non-stop the entire day. Sadly for Sofia, she was running a bit late on getting to the location. One of the people in her class got paired with her and would not stop talking her ear off about the project they had to work together on in the next class. She wanted to die, foot tapping against the ground as she waited for her to shut up. "Listen. I know you're excited, but I gotta bounce," she hissed out, shutting the girl up immediately. She got a hesitant nod before she disappeared, allowing Sofia to disappeared from the common rooms and head for the scrimmage location. It took quite a bit trying to sneak, especially since she had just announced she had somewhere to be. She needed to be careful and made sure to remain in the shadows. She would kill for an invisibility spell or something right about now. She huffed out a breath the minute she arrived, taking notice of her brother standing as if he were leading the thing. Was he leading this thing? 'Okay, we have five minutes to break into teams, warm-up, whatever. Remember to stay quiet...' Great, they had already picked teams, and Sofia had not been here for it. She grew closer to her brother, "Sorry I'm late. Hope I didn't miss much?" she questioned, raising an eyebrow at her brother, addressing him more than the other Quidditch players that stood around or grabbed stupid glowsticks from the male. February 2026 The teams that she had pulled from the hat meant that Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw would be playing as one team, while Slytherin and Gryffindor would be playing as the other. That would make for an interesting match, Dasha felt, particularly given the usual rivalry between Gryffindor and Slytherin. Both on the Quidditch pitch and off, there was significant tension between the two Houses, and forcing them to work together was almost funny to her.
Simon held out a bin containing something that Dasha didn't fully recognize, but Simon explained that they had to crack them and shake them and then put them on either their person or their broomstick so that they would be more easily identifiable to one another in the dark. Readjusting how she was holding her broom again so that she could grab one, Dasha bent it and found that it glowed yellow at the point at which she'd bent it. She passed it over to Brody, the nearest Hufflepuff to her, and then picked up another one of the sticks. Luckily, that one turned blue, and she found that it was much more malleable than she expected it would be. She formed it into a circular shape, discovering that it fastened with the aid of a small piece of plastic on one end.
Assuming that it would slide too far down the shaft of her broomstick to be of much use to her there, Dasha slid the glowing ring around her arm as a bracelet, searching for another one that was of the same color that she could put on the opposite side. She didn't want to wear too many and give away the fact that they were holding a Quidditch match when they should have been back in their respective common rooms, but she knew that she needed to be visible. Plus, she hoped that that added bit of light from the bracelets would make it easier for her to find the Snitch in the dark.
When Simon told them that they had only five minutes to go before they needed to start, Dasha nodded and was able to grab a blue glow stick from one of the Hufflepuff students who had shown up. She secured that one as a bracelet much more quickly, then she stepped out of the way of the other players. There wasn't too much that she could really do to prepare, other than to stretch a bit. It was a benefit and a drawback of being a Seeker, she supposed. She wasn't sure how much they needed to talk strategy; she just had to catch the Snitch before the other team's Seeker—the same as always.

The purple-haired snake turned toward Addy greeting her, asking if they had chosen teams yet. She shook her head. "Nah, we're just in time!" she chimed, icy blue saucers widening when Simon announced the results pulled from the quidditch hat. Gryffindor and Slytherin against Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. That would be interesting.
Lulu rushed over to the glow sticks, excited to crack and shake one for herself. She grabbed a green and pink one because she wanted variety. She gave the green one a crack first, watching it glow and come to life with easy amusement. As she cracked the pink one she spun around towards Addie and shook it passionately, "Do'ya reckon Simon is still pissed at ya for hogging the pitch every weekend for Slytherin practice?" she whispered with a dark chuckle, her eyes shooting toward the Gryffindor who was preoccupied. Always loving to spill a bit of tea.
After fastening one glow stick of each color to her wrists, she exclaimed, "Slyther-Dorrr," in a metal tone, spinning her broom around her shoulder to shred it like a guitar. But in pantomime. Lulu snuck a bit of pre work out with one of the yolked up Muggleborn boys on the team and she was starting to feel the effects.
Lulu's hand shot up, "Dibs on Keeper!" she yelled eagerly before stopping herself, covering her mouth with her hands. Opps, she kept forgetting that she was supposed to be quiet.

Catsie couldn't stop the excited squeal that she let out when the teams were announced. The sixth year clapped her hands together excitedly as well. Even though they were meant to be keeping quiet Catsie had a rather hard time staying quiet on a good day. On a night like tonight when the excitement was high and lulu anne blishwick was shouting it was even harder for her to control herself.
The Gryffindor grabbed a couple of glowsticks and wrapped one around her ponytail. Its glow bounced happily between her hair and her fuzzy scrunchie as she went running in the direction of the Slytherins. "Teamsies!" she said towards Lulu who was whispering something to Addy. Catsie didn't concern herself with that very much. She had no issues with Addy, but she had always seemed a bit standoffish in Catsie's opinion. Was that true? She had no idea.
Which was exactly why she never tried to cause a fuss between the two of them. She didn't like to make enemies unnecessarily and would always prefer to be cordial. Besides if she was friends with Lulu (you didn't have to be friends with your housemates) then she couldn't have been all bad. "Yer so lucky!" she said to Lulu, remembering her volume. "Ye git the best beater in the whooooole school on YER team t'protect ye!"
She still had two glow sticks left and fully intended on breaking them over a bludger so that they'd be better to see at night. As far as she knew that wasn't cheating. Professional quidditch matches could last games sometimes and she was sure no one was expected to magically sense a bludger at night.

February 2026 Brody hadn't expected quite as much of an uproar as actually happened when it was determined that Gryffindor and Slytherin would be one team and Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw would be the other. All things considered, it sounded relatively positive; he heard more excited energy than complaints from Gryffindor and Slytherin about the fact that they would have to work together on the pitch for once. That was good, he felt, though they probably didn't need to be hooting and hollering when they were trying to maintain some level of secrecy about what they were doing outside their respective common rooms at that time of night. At least the time pressure that Simon had put on them—only five minutes to break into their teams and warm up—seemed likely to be enough to get people to quiet down, Brody thought, adjusting enough yellow glow sticks on his body and broom to be visible without looking like a neon sign. Though the Gryffindor and Slytherin contingent didn't seem to be doing the greatest job at keeping their volume down, Brody gathered with the rest of the combined Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw team so that they could begin to strategize. He knew that they would have to be quick about it, but he figured that the Gryffindors and Slytherins would probably end up giving away their plans before the five-minute countdown came to an end. Dasha Krovopuskova volunteered herself as their team's Seeker, and Brody wasn't going to contest that. He didn't mind switching positions if he had to, but he knew that Dasha was a strong flier and doubted that she would have too much trouble catching the Snitch, even in the dark. "I can play Keeper," Brody offered as the others figured out their positions for the match. He knew that he probably wouldn't be the strongest Keeper they had ever seen, but they couldn't exactly play without having someone to guard the goalposts. "I don't think Simon brought the helmet and pads out," he noted, "so I can get those while you discuss offensive strategies."simon sixten svendsen @friday addilyn elara slater @catsie @sofia
