▲ October 31st, 2026 Fae’s ritual obligations for Samhain this year were finally done. While one more day still fell within the range of Samhain, she was officially finished. Everything for the remainder of the night and through tomorrow was dedicated to the festival portion, or at least it was for her and the other members that had spent the last two days conducting the various rituals and practices that needed to be done every year. Typically Fae found herself exhausted by the multi-day events, but a well-timed nap earlier in the day while she wasn’t needed had given her a second wind, the likes of which she hadn’t seen since her infamous third year as High Druid. There was a reason she toned things back nowadays, as making a fool out of herself this many seasons into her position would be seen as unsavory. She preferred being viewed as aloof in her off time but not when she was needed for readings and sacrifices. Too many glasses of wine and her fingers would be missing instead of the rabbit they were offering up. Her quick retreat back to her home to discard her ritual clothing and put something better for the weather probably had many of the people thinking she was making her escape, as was usual. Upon her return though, that was when things started to get interesting. The first couple glasses of Wormwood wine had gone down smoothly, and she made sure to tell herself that all of the dancing and moving around was quickly working the alcohol out of her system. That, of course, was not true. Because Fae didn’t typically drink. At all. She had found that she could probably get drunk off of the mainlanders butterbeer if she really wanted to. The wine provided by the residents of Hy-Brasil, and more specifically the Wormwood family, put all else to shame and rightfully so. So the combination of her second wind from the afternoon nap and her unknown and untested alcohol blood content led her to wandering far from the party without realizing it, a bottle of wine in each hand. Fae teetered through the woods, her feet somehow finding their way around roots that tangled along the forest floor, only tripping once when she tried to take two steps forward with her left foot instead of alternating like normal. That alone had her giggling to herself and taking another long sip from the open bottle of wine. The fires and music of Samhain were far behind her before she even realized it, replaced by the crashing of waves from the coast and the shine of the stars overhead trying to peak down through the canopy of the Wildwood. She had walked quite the distance in such a short amount of time already! The nice part about the beaches of Hy-Brasil was that they were long. One could easily walk along them at night and not fear the rush of the tide, and even then it was easy to see with the moon acting as a spotlight. The lack of light pollution was what she enjoyed most about her home. The constant drone of noise from buildings and automobiles, and blinding street lamps all over, were a huge turn off. She was fine going to the mainland for work, but at the end of the day she liked the peace and quiet. It was irreplaceable even if she did want to escape it all sometimes. Apparently the mainland countryside had a similar feel, per her sources. The only difference then was the lack of magic. Now obviously there was natural magic in all living things, otherwise there wouldn’t be much meaning to anything the druids did. The complete lack of fully magical plants and animals was where the line ended up being drawn. She liked being able to feel it wherever she went, which is exactly how Hy-Brasil was. Kicking off her shoes that she had forgotten to remove at home earlier, Fae flexed her toes into the sand, letting the damp grains clump up underneath and in-between. All of the pressure from the last two days felt like it was lifted instantly, the sand absorbing it and taking it away from her. Obviously that was just the alcohol thinking for her, but it was a nice moment to have on her own. While the breeze coming off of the water didn’t sober her up either, the added effect was certainly nice too. She wobbled and spun around along the beach for an unknown amount of time, taking sips from her bottle every now and again, sometimes guzzling it, other times barely getting a drop into her mouth because of her uneven footwork. Eventually she found herself walking back in the direction she had just come from, towards the festival grounds again. Her shoes were nowhere to be seen, but those weren’t really of much value to her. If she remembered in the morning, she’d come back for them. If not, a niffler would find them and claim possession. A new pair could easily be made up in a free afternoon. These sorts of things didn’t matter much to her right now though. Off in the distance she could see the flickers of torchlight, which meant she was relatively close to where she had started. And if the lights were still going, then so was the party. The only problem was that her legs were starting to feel unbelievably heavy. That may or may not have been because she had tried to dance on her own all the way along the coast of Hy-Brasil. Fae stopped where she was on the beach and slid over to the closest rock outcropping that jutted out between the beach and the woods. A raised path was just on the other side of her, so when she decided to head back, all she had to do was let her feet carry her there. Or home. By the time she finished this bottle of wine and popped the next one open though, she knew she wasn’t going to care where she woke up. The rock was sort of comfy already… MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

October 31, 2026 Although it might have been assumed by a few of the tourists who had come to Hy-Brasil to witness the Samhain festivities for themselves that the rituals had driven her to drink, that could not have been further from the truth. The beauty of Druid rituals was that her people were much less inhibited than those they called mainlanders. Somehow, there was a perception that they were simple people or that they didn't enjoy themselves because they didn't use Dark magic. Sadhbh, for one, didn't know what that had to do with enjoying oneself, especially after what had happened at Hogwarts. And previous Ministers for Magic wondered why there had been so much pushback from Hy-Brasil about sending their children to Hogwarts for examinations that didn't matter to them on their island…
Fortunately, all was well on Hy-Brasil, and Sadhbh's alcohol consumption had less to do with external factors and more to do with her own enjoyment of the evening. Gradually, brought on by the thought that the view would be pretty at that time, she had found her way over to the beach, a glass of wine still in one hand as she walked along the coastline with her staff as a walking stick.
Her cloak was long enough that it was dragging against the sand more than she would have liked, but it was too cold outside not to wear it. Her shoes, too, kept getting sand in them—at least until she moved down to where the water lapped up against the shore and wet the sand enough for it to remain packed together. Was it the most efficient thing she could have done? Perhaps not, but she was drunk on wine.
As she kept walking, Sadhbh came upon someone out over on some rocks that stuck out from the rest of the beach. She looked again and saw that it was Fae there—with a bottle of wine that Sadhbh recognized as one of her family's own products. It wasn't like Fae to drink much, but she didn't seem distressed. At the risk of being a bother, Sadhbh spoke up, giving the High Druid a wave. "Fae," she greeted her, walking out onto the outcropping herself and making sure not to lose her footing.

▲ Hearing her name called over the crashing of the waves was a strange experience, as she thought it was an almost otherworldly call to her. There had been a lot of that lately, with her newfound knowledge concerning plants and the way she could communicate with them. Sitting up straight on her rock outcropping and holding back a wine-fueled hiccup, she lazily stared down onto the beach below her. Sadhbh Wormwood stood there, a staff in one hand and a wine glass in the other. Fae wobbled in her sitting position, thinking for a moment that she could maybe get to her feet. The fact that she was unwilling to put either of her wine bottles down (with the one almost being empty now) to make it easier said a lot about her current state of inebriation. Laughing at her misfortune of almost slipping off the outcropping entirely, she leaned back to keep herself from actually doing so. “Is…is that my staff, Sadhbh?” Fae slurred through her words as she stared at the stick that the winemaker had in her hand. She was positive that she had left Merlin’s staff back home, not wanting it to be in the way of the festivities tonight. “Your wine…it’s very good you know?” She tipped back the bottle she had been drinking and felt only a few drops hit her tongue. It was out already? Disappointed, she set it down gently on the rock and started to work on getting the other bottle open. Teeth biting down onto the cork, she yanked it out easily, spilling a fair bit onto her face and down her front side. “Need a refill? I don’t think I can drink this one all on my own.” All semblance of formality and properness had disappeared from her completely. The Council would be so disappointed in her right now. And frankly? She didn’t care. They always wanted this or that from her. For years they’d wanted her to spend more time at the festivals and she finally had. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

October 31, 2026 From the way that her voice was garbled, Fae had had more to drink than she had had—enough not to be able to tell that Sadhbh had her own staff with her and hadn't taken hers. It was late, so it was understandable that Fae might not have been able to tell that the carved piece of wood was very much that of the winemaker, grapevine design and all. Fae complimented her wine, too, not that it was solely Sadhbh's own. It was her family's as a whole, but she understood what Fae meant by what she said.
"This is my staff, Fae," Sadhbh assured her in Brasilic. She didn't think that the other woman had mushrooms in her system, but she didn't need her to get paranoid over it.
The wine was good, too, as evidenced by the glass that Sadhbh continued to carry as she made her way to the High Druid. Fae, it appeared, had gone straight for the bottle, forgoing a cup or glass of any kind. She came up empty, though, and Sadhbh could see then that Fae had a second bottle of wine with her, too.
Never having known Fae to drink so much at one time, Sadhbh was slightly shocked to see Fae uncorking the bottle with her teeth instead of by magic. A normal conversation's distance from her by that point, she watched as some of the second bottle spilled out. It didn't completely drench Fae, but it wasn't insignificant. Fae checked if she needed a refill, but Sadhbh shook her head.
Quickly, Sadhbh finished her own glass of wine. She knew that she would feel its effects—but nowhere near as much as Fae already was. Though she easily could have vanished it to free up one of her hands, she held the empty glass out to Fae. It would be better than her drinking from the bottle again. "Here," Sadhbh offered her, using her staff to ease herself into a seated position beside the High Druid on the rocks.

▲ Squinting a little harder, the shadows cast on Sadhbh's staff from the moonlight definitely made it look different than Merlin's staff. "You're right...mine is bigger," she stated as she turned away from the other druid and focused on her freshly opened bottle of wine. Calling it her own was disingenuous; she was merely the current handler of the staff. Potentially only the second to Merlin himself. Her quest to place it back in the cave was an ongoing adventure she had yet to complete. Once that was done, it would be back to normal using her actual staff once again. Growing accustomed to having one on her at all times was not something she thought she'd be able to forgo when this was all said and done. Taking another swig of her wine bottle, she scrunched her nose up at Sadhbh's staff since it was claimed by its owner. At least she could still visit Merlin's when it went back to the cave to maintain the barrier again. After a few moments, she felt Sadhbh take a place next to her on the rock. A wine glass was held out in front of her, and Fae instantly started to pour wine into it. "I knew you wanted more!" she exclaimed as she used both hands to pour the bottle. While on the mainland, she had seen glasses that were huge compared to what the druids typically used. Especially the mugs that butterbeer came in! Speaking of her new found favorite beverage, having Sadhbh here was perfect to discuss that. "I've spent a lot of time on the mainland lately, and they are obsessed with butterbeer," Fae explained rather dramatically. "Do you think it would be possible to brew it here on the island? Being able to share such a splendid drink with everyone...I would love it." As far as she was concerned, butterbeer was the best way to world peace. In her current state of inebriation, she found it to be an extremely important detail in making friends with the grouchier Ministry employees. She took a celebratory swig out of her bottle even though nothing had actually happened. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

October 31, 2026 Seeing Fae drunk was a sight, though Sadhbh's also being drunk kept her from becoming too frustrated by the High Druid, especially when she thought that Sadhbh had held out the glass for more wine and not to give her the glass.
"I was trying to give you the glass so that you wouldn't have to drink from the bottle," Sadhbh smiled, still holding out the glass awkwardly. If Fae didn't want it for herself, then she would drink it.
As it turned out, though, there was more on Fae's mind than wine. "I've spent a lot of time on the mainland lately, and they are obsessed with butterbeer," she informed her. "Do you think it would be possible to brew it here on the island? Being able to share such a splendid drink with everyone… I would love it."
"Butterbeer?" Sadhbh questioned. She remembered it from when she had gone to Hogwarts for her examinations, but she couldn't remember if she had ever had it. She awkwardly waited as Fae drank from the wine bottle again and then continued. "Is that fermented?"

▲ "Oh..." Fae stared between the glass she'd just filled in Sadhbh's hand and her bottle, which was still dangerously full despite a few swigs and minus a very, very large amount of liquid being poured for the winemaker. "But...you need a drink, right?" she asked, not sure how she was expected to drink from both the glass and the bottle at the same time. That was just silly. And to be expected with glass that couldn't be dropped a few times and survive the impact? She had done that with the current bottle a few times while dancing down the beach, though she supposed it hadn't shattered due to the cushioning of the sand. Using her free hand, Fae gently pushed at the wine glass back towards Sadhbh. "Think of it as a celebratory nightcap!" Soon it would be a new month, and a new set of rituals to conduct as the winter began. That was definitely something she could drink to tonight, and she did as she brought the lip of the bottle up to her mouth again. Sadhbh asked if butterbeer was fermented, and Fae shrugged as she focused all of her attention on her drinking. If she didn't, more of her dress would be stained with wine. "Have you ever had butterscotch? It tastes like that. Very sweet and sugary," she explained. "The Hogwarts students are addicted to it apparently." Though that was only going off of what she had heard from other people. Some day she would make it back to Hogsmeade and observe in person, assuming the Council would let her after the last problem the school had. "I don't believe it has any alcohol in it. Or if it does, it's not a lot." She could see getting an upset stomach from drinking too much though. All that sugar and butterscotch flavoring could do a number in anyone that didn't enjoy sweets. Thankfully she wasn't one of those people. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

October 31, 2026 Sadhbh felt bad as Fae's face fell at the realization that the wine glass had been intended for her, rather than for herself. Fae politely declined it, telling her to think of it as a "celebratory nightcap". If the High Druid instructed her to think of it in that way, well, then that had to be so, Sadhbh knew.
When it came to the butterbeer, Fae shrugged; she didn't know about any fermentation. It tasted, she said, like butterscotch. It was very sweet, and the students at Hogwarts were addicted to it. At the mention of addiction, Sadhbh's eyebrows rose, and her eyes widened. Addicted? She couldn't remember seeing any students drunk while she had been at Hogwarts years before, but she knew that there had been many tragedies in between. Maybe times really had changed that much.
She was able to breathe a sigh of relief, however, when Fae said that she didn't believe that the drink had any alcohol in it—or not much alcohol, if it had any at all. "Oh, okay. That's very good, then, Fae. It should not be difficult to make." Sadhbh needed a sip of wine after that scare and promptly took one.

▲ “Lots of sugar though. Did I say that yet? And it has a very…a very butterscotch taste to it,” she repeated, though had sort of forgotten she had already said it in the first place. “But maybe it does have alcohol in it because they call it butterbeer. The butter is from the butterscotch I guess, and that means the other half is beer! And sugar.” Fae nodded her head intently. What a drink it had been! Comparing it to the wine she had been drinking all night wouldn’t be fair though. Each was its own thing, and butterbeer was definitely more for her than the bottles she had with her right now. The Wormwood wine was easy to slip into, hard to get out of. Like multiple bottles worth of swimming. Giggling to herself as she thought about how good butterbeer was, Fae took another swig before holding the bottle out to Sadhbh again. “More?”Or it should have been more, but as she tried to hold the bottle, it slipped from her grasp and tumbled into the vast darkness of the beach below them. Fae stared after it, and not hearing it shatter, started to try and get to her feet again. “Such a waste! Can’t let it…go to the mermaids. They don’t like when bottles float to them…such a waste…” But she couldn’t get her feet under her correctly. Tangled up on herself, it seemed like the rock she had chosen for her perch was where she was going to be staying. “Sadhbh, could you hand me my staff? I’d like to summon that bottle back,” she asked, once again forgetting that the staff was not hers, but actually the other woman’s. Her hand was still outstretched and moving in a grabbing motion, though she was still gazing down at the beach. Trying to find a bottle in the sand without any light aside from the moon was impossible! Casting a light charm would have to be done first, it seemed! MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

October 31, 2026 Although Fae had already mentioned how sugary and sweet butterbeer was, she brought it up again. She questioned if she had already told her that, but Sadhbh didn't really mind. Fae's point was clear: Butterbeer was exceptionally sweet, apparently getting its name from "butterscotch" and "beer". They had sugar on Hy-Brasil, so getting the sweetness level right wouldn't be the most difficult part. Getting the flavor right would be harder, though.
And despite her love of the butterbeer, Fae was still eager to share her wine. Sadhbh was prepared to take the bottle from Fae so that she could pour a little bit more, but it fell from the High Druid's grasp before she could. It tumbled all the way down to the beach, yet Fae seemed determined to try and get the bottle back. It didn't seem to Sadhbh like a good idea. She hadn't heard the glass bottle break, but Fae did have a point when she commented that the mermaids would be unhappy to have the bottle float their way.
Fae requested her staff, even though the only staff there was Sadhbh's own. Sadhbh, trying to remain polite, corrected the High Druid gently. "This staff is mine. Do you see the grapevine?" she pointed out. "I don't think you brought yours," Sadhbh then added, "but I'll summon the bottle back for you. Don't worry."

▲ Squinting through the darkness, her inner voice cursed to herself that her metamorphmagus powers didn’t allow her to turn her eyes in that of a cat’s, that way she could see in the dark. It was funny because she could physically make them look like that, she was pretty sure, but that meant nothing when they were useless like normal human eyes. “I can’t see it,” she mumbled, moving to stand up on her perch, as if that would give her a better view of the beach under the night sky. She failed at standing though, quickly feeling her legs wobble from the knee down, like a newborn fawn attempting to walk for the first time. Placing herself back into a sitting position, the spinning feeling that had accompanied the attempt at getting up went away immediately. Maybe she was better off staying right where she was… “That’s yours?” she repeated back to Sadhbh about the staff she had been asking for. Right! Merlin’s staff had been placed back home. At least that was where she was pretty sure she had put it. The time right before she got to the beach was sort of a dark blur now, and all she really remembered was leaving the festival, making it home at some point, and then she was here. “Thank you,” Fae finally relented to allowing Sadhbh to summon the lost wine bottle. “I don’t even remember the spell for that right now,” she laughed. Falling back onto the rock, she crossed her arms behind her head to act as a pillow. A quick nap maybe, depending on how long it took the winemaker to find the bottle. But closing her eyes would be a waste, because the night sky was beautiful! Something she only realized once she was staring up at it. “I miss this when I go to the mainland. They have too many lights there…”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

October 31, 2026 Fae peered at the staff Sadhbh had with her—which was very much her own—and mentioned that she couldn't see the grapevine carvings on it in the dark. That was fair, Sadhbh realized; she probably couldn't see it to tell what it was, other than that it was obviously a staff. The High Druid tried to stand up but looked as though she was about to fall. Sadhbh wasn't in a good position to catch her, so she tensed up as she saw Fae appearing so unsteady and let out a small breath as she decided to sit back down.
"That's yours?" Sadhbh nodded. She didn't know of another staff on Hy-Brasil that looked like hers, though she wasn't the only person who happened to have a staff as an additional magical conduit. Druids had put cores that mainlanders would consider only for regular wands into other wooden objects, providing them with magical properties.
Just as she had promised Fae she would, Sadhbh was ready to summon back the lost wine bottle. She cast a Wand-Lighting Charm to keep from smashing the bottle against any rocks on its way up and then decided to levitate it up to set it beside Fae where she sat and could reach it without a problem.
As she lifted the bottle up off the beach, she could hear Fae comment, "I miss this when I go to the mainland. They have too many lights there…"
The "mainland," which was still made up of islands itself despite how they referred to it, was an interesting place. Sadhbh had spent far less time there than Fae had, but she knew that Fae was right about how bright it was. At least in Hogsmeade and in London, there were lots of lights. There must have been more remote locations somewhere where it would be possible to stargaze, but Sadhbh didn't know where they were off the top of her head.
It wouldn't be possible to find the same tranquility anywhere else, though, Sadhbh felt. Even on the mainland, there was nowhere where they could be so free to use magic and enjoy the beauty of the natural world around them. So many of the spaces that mainlanders occupied were within four walls and cut off from the environment. Even the forest on the grounds of Hogwarts was called the "Forbidden Forest" because it was off-limits to students. All that served to do was make people afraid of magical creatures who were likely of very little actual danger to anyone at all.
"There," Sadhbh said to call Fae's attention to the fact that she had brought the bottle back up for her after some careful trial and error. "There might be some sand on it, but the wine is okay." As gently as she could, she hovered the bottle in the air for a moment so that Fae would be aware of its presence, and then she set it down at just enough of a distance where she didn't think that Fae would be likely to knock it over when she sat up from her reclined position.

▲ A blink. She could have sworn that was all she did. A singular, solo blink. One second she was talking about the stars and staring up at them and then she saw the sandy wine bottle held out in front of her face. "You found that fast," she slurred. Trying to sit-up, Fae failed to pull her upper body into a sitting position and resigned herself to lying on the rock. Rolling over onto her side so she could see where the bottle was placed, she gently took hold of it and pulled it closer to her chest. The entire process of flipping onto her side was exhausting, and she felt the last bottle she drank sloshing around inside her. Not enough that she'd need to run off into the woods, but very, very close to it. "Sadhbh..." she hummed as she found her way onto her back again, wine clutched tightly in her arms. "I should be fine sleeping here, right?" Even in her current state, she knew she'd have to be careful of the tide. This rock was perched high enough up that she was certain she would be fine, and if not the merpeople would keep her afloat. Probably. Sleeping on a rock was going to hurt in the morning though. Getting into her feet and stumbling back to her home was even more perilous though, and without her staff she didn't have a light source. Feeling the way from the grass and the trees would stop the second she got sick on them. Another long, drawn out yawn escaped her and she blinked again. This time a little longer than the last. Only when she felt the bottle start to slip from her hands did she open her eyes again. "I should go home," she stated abruptly, attempting to stand once again, this time finding her way to her feet and stumbling down off the rock and back to the safety of non-beach land. October 31, 2026 Apart from her amazement at how quickly she had brought the wine bottle back to safety, Fae was intoxicated enough that she asked if she would be okay to sleep there overnight. From a safety standpoint, Sadhbh knew that she probably wouldn't die or anything; the waves likely wouldn't reach that far in and pull her out to sea, but it didn't seem exceptionally comfortable to sleep on the rocks if she could help it.
Fae sounded as though she might fall asleep right then and there; however, she did seem to be aware of it, and she mentioned needing to go back home. Though she had had her share of alcohol, too, Sadhbh felt that it would be better to see to it that Fae returned home safely from the coast. The creatures of the island didn't pose a threat to them, being Druids, but there were still hazards in the dark.
"I will walk with you," Sadhbh told Fae, watching as the High Druid managed to get to her feet without assistance. She, too, maneuvered her way back off the rocky edge and stood beside Fae. It wouldn't be going out of her way, really. The island was easily navigable if one was accustomed to it.

▲ "Mmmkay...thank you," Fae slurred as she heard her companion say something about helping her back home. The gentle crashing of waves on the beach were so close to lulling her to sleep too. In her drunken stupor, she thought about how fun it would be to move her home close to the coastline. Having the breeze always running through her windows and being able to walk whenever she wanted on the beach. Forgetting that this was doable with only a ten minute walk in any direction from her current home, of course. And leaving the griffins behind was not something she could do even if she was only a stones throw away at a beach front house. Even in her drunken stupor, Fae knew each step of the forest without having to think too hard about it. Her feet purposely missed all of the tangled, surface-level roots, and even managed to walk her around the few large stones that were at prime toe stubbing height. Or maybe that was Sadhbh guiding her. She really didn't know. What she did know was that she suddenly felt the comfort of her bed sucking her in. Calling it a bed was generous, as it lacked a frame and mattress, and was more a nest of various soft things that she could bury herself in. There was no way for her to fall off and hurt herself. Perfect for being near black out drunk. Thankfully she had been out here instead of her hammock, which was always stretched between the two trees behind her shack. That would not have ended well. "Oh!" she exclaimed as she rolled over and pointed at the wall across from her. "I found my staff. I knew you had it with you Sadhbh." A long yawn followed, and Fae returned to her nest. She was tired, and counting more than two griffins was going to put her to sleep instantly. Maybe she would just close her eyes for a second or two... MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0
