((All articles from May 2026 or older can be located HERE)) DAILY PROPHET 1 June 2026Damian Karkaroff Root Replaces Krum as Minister for Magic Following a long and arduous process that first began as concerns mounted from within the Ministry over a pattern of what one official called "indefensible behaviour", Minister for Magic Viktor Krum has been removed from office. The Bulgarian-born Krum, who first began his career as a professional Quidditch player whilst still a student at Durmstrang Institute, entered into politics following the death of Minister for Magic Hermione Granger under one year ago. His politics, however, were soon overshadowed by questions of his suitability for office. Amongst members of the public, too, Krum's controversial personal life continued to haunt him. Succeeding Krum as Minister for Magic from today is Rowena Root. Root, a part Witch and part Druid, has a long career history within the Ministry. Having begun her career as an intern in the Department of International Magical Co-operation in 2006, Root served as a Ministry-appointed diplomat in Russia and elsewhere in Eastern Europe from 2015 to 2021. Most recently, she served as the Ministry's representative to the International Confederation of Wizards, having entered that role in 2022. Public opinion on Minister Root appears largely positive, with onlookers' comments suggesting a renewed confidence in the Ministry of Magic as a whole. When asked her thoughts about Minister Root, one witch responded, "Well, she's really very qualified, isn't she? And Merlin knows we need a strong leader after what's happened to our Hogwarts." Speaking earlier today at a press conference, Root herself expressed her hopes for her time as Minister. "For as long as memory serves we've resisted change. We've been afraid to move forward, stuck in the past and doomed to continually repeat events. I will break that cycle. I hope that I can play even the smallest role in bringing about a future where all magical kind can live in unity and harmony. Let us finally bury our past and focus on a better future." A representative for Viktor Krum was not available for comment.

DAILY PROPHET 5 June 2026Norbert Quirrell Hogwarts to Close Temporarily, Foreign Schools Open Doors Students will not be able to return to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in September, the Hogwarts Board of Governors have determined in consultation with the Ministry of Magic and school staff. Although portions of the castle's structure remain standing, they are "insufficient to provide students with the resources necessary to promote their learning", according to a statement from the Department of Magical Education. Following ongoing discussions with representatives of some of the most reputed educational institutions in the magical world, it has been determined that Hogwarts students will be hosted at foreign schools or educated at home until the castle has been rebuilt. The foreign schools that have agreed to host students from Hogwarts include Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, Durmstrang Institute, and Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the latter of which will welcome its own students back after a prolonged closure following vandalism by extremist group Chimaera's Claw.
Both the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA) and Ilvermorny's headmaster, Agilbert Fontaine, have issued their own statements on the announcement by the Department of Magical Education yesterday, 4 June. Said Fontaine, "While we are delighted to welcome both Ilvermorny students and their Hogwarts classmates to Massachusetts this September after an unexpected closure of our own, we know that this will be a difficult time for many, following the recent tragedy at Hogwarts. We at Ilvermorny hope that the coming school year will be a time for learning, reflection, and unity as a magical community, and our staff will be available to answer any questions that families may have about the transition process."
Hogwarts families seeking guidance on the schools most appropriate for their children are urged to contact the schools directly with their enquiries. Additionally, many other magical schools are reported to have expressed interest in working with members of Hogwarts staff during this time of uncertainty.
The Department of Magical Education regret that they cannot respond to individual concerns at this time; however, a spokesperson for the department stated that families will be expected to register their children's educational decisions by no later than 3 August to aid the Ministry and the Hogwarts Board of Governors in their planning process.

DAILY PROPHET 19 June 2028Norbert Quirrell Wizengamot to Vote on HOWL Act The members of the Wizengamot are scheduled to vote on the Heading Off Werewolfry and Lycanthropy (HOWL) Act on Wednesday, 21 June. The legislation would strengthen and expand the scope of the existing Werewolf Register maintained by the Werewolf Registry within the Beast Division of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, its supporters say. That includes the Head of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, Verity Nott, who drafted the act.
Not all members of the magical community are pleased with the HOWL Act, including many supporters of werewolf rights. "Historically, attempts to legislate werewolf behavior have failed," wizarding historian Corentyn Curnow told The Daily Prophet. "Anyone who passed their OWL in History of Magic could tell you that the Werewolf Code of Conduct in 1637 was an extraordinary failure, and the Werewolf Register itself has existed without success since 1947."
Some, in fact, are concerned that the HOWL Act could spell an increase in anti-werewolf sentiment. Geethanjali Root, a Lufkin Institute for Further Education student who identified herself as a werewolf, commented, "I've heard that some Druid parents on Hy-Brasil don't want their children to sit their exams at Hogwarts if they might be exposed to werewolves. We werewolves already face enough scrutiny as it is. The HOWL Act might sound like it's helping us, but most of us are just normal people and aren't a danger to anyone."

DAILY PROPHET 24 August 2028Damian Karkaroff Newly elected druid council to seek drastic reforms It was recently announced that the Druid High Council members who were slated for the most recent election would begin their term of service today. Members of the druid public welcome the change, with one such druid commenting that High Druid Fae Cloudbreaker was eroding their culture. The council has received a mixed reaction from British wizarding society as a whole, however. “They’re very old and conservative, aren’t they?” said Hazel Burke, a professor of alchemy at LIFE. Indeed, the platform on which most of the councillors ran hinged on druid culture and returning to former glory. The sentiment across Hy-Brasil seems to be that bringing down the barrier and inviting British wizards with open arms has led to the steady destruction of Druid culture. Where once difference from wizarding society was celebrated, many are of the opinion that wizarding Britain will consume Hy-Brasil and druids as we know them will cease to exist. “It’s a preposterous sentiment, but it is an elected position. The druids of Hy-Brasil have their own system of legislation. I can only hope that it will not lead to a breakdown of communication between us,” says Felix Teller, Head of the Department of Mysteries at the British Ministry of Magic. While the relationship between the High Druid and her council may seem tenuous, both parties must work together to ensure a smooth transition of power to conserve the lifestyle and culture that is so important to the general public. made by ritz! of cc & gs

DAILY PROPHET 3 October 2028Eurydice Jones HOWL gains traction within British ministry with support from Druids It seems the British Wizarding public are obsessed with causes they can get behind. A wise old warlock who wished to remain anonymous once said “the more ridiculous the manifesto, the less likely a party is to get elected. They can over promise without having to deliver.” However, that doesn’t seem to be the case with the HOWL legislation that was recently shelved. HOWL, a colloquial term for heading off werewolf and lycanthropy bill, seems to be gaining support from all sides. The recently elected Druid council have openly voiced their support, though High Druid Fae Cloudbreaker still dissents. A recent string of unexplained werewolf attacks have left parents and caretakers worried that their charges will be left at risk if nothing is done. The HOWL act was drafted to allow further requests for identification and information from werewolves, and expand upon the current werewolf register, which has been in place since 1947. This in turn theoretically would lead to a decrease in unknown werewolf attacks, as blood taken from werewolves can potentially be matched to their victims. While voting on HOWL is still indefinitely postponed, the support from the druid council seems to be an indication on how things might go. Should the British ministry ignore the calls for change, the relationship between the Druids and the Ministry of Magic will surely deteriorate. Will Minister Root crumble under the Druid's pressure, present a compromise, or sacrifice the partnership in the name of her own interests? made by ritz! of cc & gs

DAILY PROPHET 19 January 2029Anonymous The darkness is growing My grandmother used to tell us stories. On frigid winter nights, when the night wind tore through the trees and a heavy mist settled over the island, she would build a fire and gather us close. She would weave stories from the flames and while silhouetted figures rose from the smoke to dance and fight and astound, she would whisper to us about the tales of our island, and the heroic adventures of its dragons and griffins, and the ever-shifting melody of the magic around us. These weren’t the fruits of an overly active grandmother’s mind. They were the voices of the past speaking to us, the wisdom of our ancestors passed down the links that bind past to future and them to us. They were happy stories, occasionally an underlying tone of caution to their words. But once she told us a dark story. It was a story meant to warn, not to delight. There would be no happy ending for its characters, because we learned that night that the world is not only made of light and joy. It went like this. ‘As we know, the people of our island have not always lived in harmony, as they have struggled against outside forces that sought to extinguish our light. But the threat does not always come from outside, and long before the wars and rebellions that sent us away…there was once a village. A happy village, with simple druids who knew their place and lived peacefully within it. But while the magic folk seemed calm and loving, every single one fought an internal battle. For it is well-known that we are all born with two wolves inside us, who constantly compete to be fed. One wolf is all that is good within us – we feed and strengthen it by loving our families, doing good deeds, and seeking to better the world. The other wolf is Dark, hungry and mean – the worst of us that seeks to take everything so it can grow stronger. In every druid, the battle raged every day. Sometimes the good wolf would grow stronger, and sometimes they would succumb to their weaknesses and feed their dark wolf. But in most people there is balance, and the village continued in peace and happiness while they wavered between the good and bad inside them. That is the journey we all take, even today. For which wolf will win? The one you feed. But there was one druid who had long since stopped feeding the good wolf inside him. He had not always been that way. He was a deeply-loved schoolteacher, a pillar of his community who had taught the children of his village and their parents before them. But his wife died, taken by a pox, and his children would travel far away to seek their fortunes and leave him alone. He felt the Darkness inside him grow, and even as the people of his village struggled to see the good they knew was there – the understanding eventually faded into a willing ignorance of the growing danger. The children of the town began to mock this shadow of a man as the years passed and he retreated into his downtrodden self. Slowly, in pieces, the unfairness of his life fed the anger and resentment inside him. The good wolf would cry for attention, beg for a good deed that could bolster his spirits against the meanness of the other wolf, but it slowly began to fade away. One night, when the full moon rose over the distant mountain peaks and her pale light bathed the snow-filled valleys in the soft glow of the heavens, the man shuffled his way down the street. His ragged blanket could not keep out the chill of the night and he thought only of the warm fire he would build. He heard cries in the distance. First, he ducked his head against the wind and continued onwards. But a tug on his blanket stopped him, and he looked into the pale face of one of his old students. One of his relentless bullies, who would mock and taunt him on the street. She pointed at her half-frozen friend, caught in the storm, and then at his blanket. He shook his head and made to continue, but was stopped by a more insistent tugging. They battled for the blanket until he finally kicked her back, watching her fall beside her friend while a trickle of red slowly stained the snow. He felt nothing, for the good wolf inside him had long since died and left only the growling predator that no longer faced any opposition in feeding the man’s worst impulses. Then the moon spoke to him. The light and dark inside us are always at war, and so we must choose every day to banish the Darkness and carry on. If you do not feed the good, then the Dark will bury you. You chose to allow your light to fade, and now you have committed evil. I curse you. You will no longer have any choice, no way to choose the outcome of this battle. When you see my light, the wolf will emerge. Someday it will devour you completely. And so it was. Once a month, the wolf-man haunts the streets, and in his lonely pain he seeks to devour the light of others and condemn them to share his fate.’ It took me years to understand that this was not a fanciful story, meant to scare children into staying in their beds. It was a warning from the past, an echo of the hard-won lessons of those that came before us. These stories are not only meant to entertain, but to keep our knowledge alive and keep us safe. The wolf-men may seem like our friends, our neighbors, our mentors, but the wolf inside is always hungry. It seeks to devour because that is its nature – it is drawn to the wholeness it will never again feel, the light that it can no longer touch. We may believe that we know better now, that these stories should be dead and buried with our ancestors. But who is so arrogant so as to believe they have outgrown the accumulated wisdom of the generations that came before us? Who is so blinded by the light inside them that they cannot see the Darkness that lingers all around? I do not fault the man for the curse he carries, nor the wolf for doing as its nature dictates. But I question those who in their desire to outrace the past, will expose us to the very danger we have been warned about. The darkness is growing, the curse has spread. We must defeat the Dark before it devours us all. made by ritz! of cc & gs

DAILY PROPHET 13 April 2029Damian Karkaroff The Other Side of the Moon We caught up with Tobias Watkins, a final year student at Lufkin Institute for Further Education, studying magizoology. Tobias is poised to bring about change in the system as a registered werewolf responsible for other creatures. He was hired at the illustrious Magical Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre (MWRC) based in Hogsmeade as a student on a part time basis, and his superiors have all praised his determination and empathy coupled with his strong work ethic. Daily Prophet: Tobias, thanks so much for meeting with me. I see you’ve been fully compliant with all ministry requests for information and have fully registered as a werewolf. Can you walk me through that process? Tobias Watkins: Thank you for having me. Yes, the process is fairly simple. Go to the ministry and share your personal information. That’s all at the moment. DP: Were you bitten a long time ago? TW: Not very long ago. I was bitten three years ago shortly after graduation. That's about three years ago. DP: I’m sorry, that must have been tough. And as a werewolf, do you find generally that your quality of life has been altered when you’re not transformed? TW: I’d be lying if I said no. Most days I don’t feel great. The days prior and following the Full Moon are typically the most difficult. DP: You must be aware of the range of treatments available for lycanthropy. Do you use wolfsbane or aware wolf? TW: I’ve tried both with success. Aware Wolf has worked the best with my lifestyle. DP: How would you describe your potion use? Is it easy to remember and track the full moons? TW: It’s easy to remember after learning how to live life around the moon phases. Everyone has their own methods to stay on track. I’ve always been interested in Astronomy and potion making, so Full Moons are something I’ve always tracked. Now it’s not as much as a choice, rather than a lifestyle. DP: Some members of the magical community are concerned with a recent uptick in violent crime. Reported incidents are similar to werewolf bites, very bloody and gorey, but there are actually no new cases of lycanthropy have been reported. What’s your take on this? Do you believe that this is not actually the work of werewolves, a single rogue, or that new cases aren’t registering with the ministry? TW: Werewolves aren’t the only creatures capable of causing harm to beings… DP: Noted... and leading on from that, you’ve probably seen that the HOWL act has been gaining some traction, especially with the druids. What’s your take on this piece of legislation? TW: My take is that it's disappointing and invasive. DP: Right, and do you think that it’s an invasion of your personal data to demand blood and saliva samples for the werewolf register? TW: Yes, it’s an invasion of privacy and dehumanising to collect personal data. To my understanding, no other magical beings are forced to share blood and saliva samples. DP: It’s looking like the ministry of magic and the druids must strike a delicate balance to maintain peace regarding this matter. Do you have anything you’d like to say to the druids? To the ministry? TW: Before judging or discriminating against werewolves, recognize this isn’t a choice for most, we're enduring a curse by divine magic. DP: I thank you for your time. made by ritz! of cc & gs

DAILY PROPHET 15 June 2029Barnaby Bucket Fenrir Greyback, Bloodthirsty Werewolf, Found Dead Fenrir Greyback, known for his savagery and participation during the Second Wizarding War, was found dead in Cairo, Egypt. The famed werewolf led a violent life with victims spanning the whole of Europe, and he was suspected to have victims all over the world. Famously, Fenrir Greyback was known to purposefully attack individuals with the sole purpose of creating a werewolf army. Those in his “pack” are wanted by the Ministry of Magic for crimes extending from petty theft, grand larceny, burglary, assault, unlawful imprisonment, reckless endangerment, murder, and willful exposure to lycanthropy. Additionally, Fenrir himself was known to attack children intentionally. While members of Fenrir’s Pack now line cells in Azkaban, there was never definitive proof connecting Fenrir to groups such as the Purifiers, Kraken, or Chimera’s Claw. Notably, Kraken claimed credit for the large attack against Beauxbatons and Durmstrang students after the Triwizard Tournament in which a son of Fenrir, Elias Greyback, participated as the Durmstrang Champion. It is not known how many of Fenrir’s descendants exist in the Wizarding World today or how many are werewolves themselves. The Egyptian Ministry of Magic, as well as Magical Interpol are tracking down accomplices as well as known descendants of Fenrir Greyback. While the cause of death has not been released by Interpol, the manner of death is confirmed to be homicide. Interpol, so far, has not commented on the timing of the death of the Wizarding World’s most violent killers and the UK Ministry of Magic’s impending vote this week on the HOWL Act. The HOWL Act was postponed a year ago amid security concerns after its details were released. made by ritz! of cc & gs

DAILY PROPHET 18 June 2029Damian Karkaroff HOWL fails to pass Wizengamot Breaking news: We’ve just heard from the chamber that the proposed HOWL act has failed to pass the Wizengamot. As a reminder, this act proposed stricter regulation and reporting for werewolves, and was highly contentious. The HOWL act would have required werewolves to submit saliva samples, and would have given ministry officials the right to search and seizure of suspected werewolves.
This is a developing story.

DAILY PROPHET 8 August 2029Eurydice Jones Cloudbreaker under pressure from council to sever ties with British ministry in wake of HOWL failure In the wake of the HOWL failure, High Druid Fae Cloudbreaker has been facing increasing calls to sever ties with the British ministry of magic. The Druid council, composed of elder druids who balance the power of the High Druid, have been vocal regarding their support for the HOWL act. While the legislation has been called ‘ruthless’ and ‘invasive’ by the British wizarding public, the druids are far more skeptical of the danger posed by a partially lycanthropic society. “Mainlanders constantly underestimate how dangerous werewolves are,” says Verbena Leech, member of the Druid council. “HOWL would have afforded us and our children protection, and placed responsibility on these vicious creatures.” Many other councilors echoed her sentiments. However, Bianca Rivera, head of DMLE (department for magical law enforcement) in the Ministry of Magic, countered Verbena’s statement. “Innocent until proven guilty. This applies to everyone – including werewolves. A preemptive strike is unjust, and the Druid council would do well to remember that.” It seems that Cloudbreaker will have to strike a delicate balance to maintain peaceful relations between the druids and British wizarding society. made by ritz! of cc & gs

DAILY PROPHET 23 October 2029Cade Woodward Souls harvested as chaos reigns in autumn festival The veil between the world of the living and dead thins as the harvest season ends. It’s a time both of celebration and remembrance as witches and wizards across the world remember their pagan roots. Festivals often crop up in strictly magical communities to praise the blessings of the harvest and prepare for a long winter. However, tragedy struck at Hogsmeade’s Harvest festival on 22nd October. In recent years, the small wizarding village nestled in the shadow of Hogwarts has been a hotspot of dark magical activity, having faced dragon attacks and the aftermath of Hogwarts’ burning. But the trouble doesn’t end there, as three wizards were maimed and killed with half a dozen more grievously injured. While the perpetrator is at large, we can’t draw any firm conclusions. However, “all the evidence points to a werewolf attack, and it was the full moon,” explains Curtis Rowe from the department for the regulation and control of magical creatures. “But the investigation is still ongoing.” “We could have the criminal in hand had HOWL passed,” says Nechtan Leech, Druid councilor. “We’d have a registry of genetic material to test the injuries against. But you thought you were smarter – you thought werewolves were not dangerous!” In the wake of this tragedy, it is expected that the HOWL appeal will have more success, with members of the Druid council already campaigning the Wizengamot. It is certainly a troubling time, and our thoughts are with the affected families. made by ritz! of cc & gs
