January 29, 2028 At least in Ivanka's opinion, wintertime was, by far, the best time of year. Having to go back to the Lufkin Institute for Further Education instead of on-the-job training had gotten old months before, but she was grateful that at least she didn't have to live there on top of everything else. If it were mandatory for students to live on the campus even as adults, she was sure that she would have revolted. She needed some separation between her training and her life outside of it, and fortunately that separation could involve spending time with her housemates—by choice, rather than because the Sorting Hat had decided that they would be sharing a dormitory.
It was too cold outside to try and convince anyone else to join her out there, even if she didn't mind the weather, and so Ivanka had gone with the next best option: a bottle of Druid-made wine and whatever happened to be on Witch TV. As watching television was a relatively new concept for most of the magical community, herself included, she found it interesting. There were some shows that featured travel, for instance, though Ivanka couldn't imagine hosting one of those. She wanted to experience the world as it really was, rather than manufacturing some vision of someplace for an audience.
Realizing that she hadn't brought a drinking glass into her bedroom but having more decorum than to drink wine directly from the bottle, Ivanka decided to summon one over to herself instead. That wouldn't have been any problem, but she soon heard the sound of something glass crashing to the floor, which was followed quickly thereafter by the sound of her cursing loudly in Bulgarian.

i'm not gonna listen to what the past says Addy was grateful for the weekend. Sometimes she did have plans, but she had opted to stay in. This week at work had been exhausting for whatever reason, and she hadn’t felt like seeing anybody either. Brígh wasn’t home; Addy knew that because it was relatively quiet. Addy wished that she was. They could’ve watched TV or something. The invention itself was something Addy had read about before, and the topic came up in Muggle Studies, of course, but experiencing one was different. Not quite like their photographs, the content was interesting, even if it all still felt a bit flat.
Wearing a slightly oversized hoodie, it was cold. Addy opened the fridge as if the contents could’ve changed since she’d last checked it five minutes ago. The text on the sleeve was faded, although you could still make out ‘Prophet’. This wasn’t one of Cheese’s sweaters that he’d left behind. Her older brother worked at the Prophet as well. Closing the door, Addy turned back to her room when she heard glass breaking. It startled her, but it appeared that it had flown right into the open pantry door.
The sound of loud cursing filled the air after. It was either Ivanka or Irina, but Irina was usually off working. She pulled out her wand, still standing from a distance to not step on the broken glass. ”Reparo.” Addy placed the glass in the sink, grabbing two clean ones. Maybe she’d get lucky, and there was some wine to spare. ”The pantry door was open.” Addy merely remarked the opening into the kitchen was rather narrow. ”Mind if I join?” Hogwarts had taught the students to live in shared space, but after seven years, your dormmates hardly felt like strangers. Still, she liked living in this flat. Everybody got along, and, aside from Brígh, who declared she had rights to Addy’s room, they respected each other’s space. Still, she hadn’t spent as much time with Ivanka.

January 29, 2028 As a witch, shattering a wine glass wasn't the end of the world. It didn't make it less annoying for Ivanka, though. She hadn't spilled any wine in the process, thank Merlin, but she still had to get up and attempt to repair the damage she'd done.
That was how it worked in theory, at least. Living with other people meant that she didn't always have to get up and do it herself, though Ivanka was far from lazy and had already gotten up by time she heard Addilyn Slater casting a Mending Charm on it. Addy didn't need to go to the trouble, but it was probably the safer option than leaving broken glass on the floor.
Still, Ivanka felt bad that she hadn't been quick enough to attend to it herself, and she quickly made her way to the kitchen. If nothing else, she needed to apologize to Addy for being more careless than she should have been. When she went to apologize, though, Addy had two wine glasses with her and asked if she could join her.
Ivanka didn't mind the company at all. There was plenty of wine, and she wasn't going to drink her way through a whole bottle of it in any case. "I don't mind," she assured the blonde. "I was going to watch a bit of Witch TV, unless you'd like to do something else?" There were so many different programs anymore. "And thanks for fixing that glass."
Addilyn was lucky that she had gotten into work at the Ministry without needing any additional training at LIFE. Ivanka didn't think that Addy's job was a walk in the park, but at least she didn't have to go back to having homework at their age. It took the enjoyment out of Curse-Breaker training.

i'm not gonna listen to what the past says Addy had been secretly a little happy that the Quidditch League had opted not to meet that weekend. It was far easier than forcing herself to go. She was never the type to skip something like that, especially Quidditch. Addy felt not just tired but a little weary. It wasn’t something she’d managed to pinpoint yet. The exercise would’ve been nice, though. Afterward, she always felt relaxed. In fact, she’d texted Cheese. Not about anything in particular, but she always eventually got to her point. But he hadn’t texted her back. He probably had plans. Addy told herself. Anyway, he was allowed to have a life.
Ivanka invited her in. ”Witch TV is fine.” Addy didn’t care as long as she could just sit there. Feeling like this always bothered her because she was accustomed to keep going. It didn’t matter if she was tired or didn’t like the task. If it needed to be done, she would handle it. Usually, she could talk it out with Brígh. Her best friend’s insight helped because Addy didn’t see herself as she did. Then again, Jack tended to look right through her as well, no matter how hard she tried to hide. ”You’re welcome.” Fixing a glass wasn’t a big deal.
”It’s a habit. My mum treats dust like the world is ending—I don’t want to see what she does over a broken glass.” That was another thing aside from work or school in the past. She was neat and organized because it had been drilled into her brain since childhood. ”What kind of wine?” She asked curiously, not that she was an expert by any means. Since she’d been invited in, Addy entered, placed the glasses down, and then sat.

January 29, 2028 Addy didn't object to watching Witch TV, though she didn't seem to feel strongly about it one way or the other. She also explained that her fixing the broken glass was something that she had done out of habit. Her mother, she said, treated dust as though the world was ending, so she didn't want to find out what she might do about a broken glass.
In comparison, Addy's description of her mother made Ivanka's own mother sound practically carefree. She knew that wasn't totally true; both her parents could be strict when they needed to be, especially her father, but she didn't think that either of them would get so worked up by a little bit of dust or a broken glass. If someone were to leave it just sitting there despite being capable of fixing it, Ivanka reasoned, then they probably wouldn't be too pleased. Neither of them had raised their children to want to live in a home that was hardly cleaner than a pigsty, but she hadn't broken anything intentionally. More often than not, Ivanka was harder on herself than her parents were on her.
As she entered, Addy also asked what kind of wine she had to drink. "It's a red blend something," Ivanka answered her readily. "From the Wormwoods on Hy-Brasil. It's meant to be sweeter than usual, I think? I haven't tried this one before." She picked up the bottle with both hands to give Addy a better look. The wine wasn't anything incredibly rare or expensive, but Ivanka didn't think that Addy would be too concerned about that. (Maybe Addy's mother would have been if she were there, but she wouldn't be the one drinking it.) Druid-made wine was generally good regardless.
