therules GENERAL - All members must be 18 years old or older to join our site or Discord server.
- We have a PG-13 rating for all sections of the site. Do not share or participate in activities (OOC or IC) that would break that rating.
- Keep it classy. Don't go overboard with vulgar language or actions and use proper English/grammar.
- Be respectful of each other and staff, and especially use care when bringing up sensitive topics such as (but not limited to) race, sexuality, politics, and religion. Don't force your views on others, and please listen if staff ask you to change the subject or take a conversation to a private chat.
- We permit OOC accounts, but we don't require them.
- We are an English-language site. If you are going to use another language anywhere on the site (OOC and IC), include a translation if it is something an average English speaker would not understand.
- We have a monetary (money) system, that rewards Galleons for IC posts. These Galleons can be used in the Galleon Shop, located HERE, to buy a number of things!
| CHARACTER CREATION & ACCEPTANCE - One character is permitted per account.
- Once registered, display names should be changed to the character’s first, middle, and last names. Keep in mind that the username you create when you register will be used as the tag for that account and is visible to other users.
- The youngest that played characters can be is 14 years old.
- Players creating any additional characters must have all their current characters marked as active (posted in the last calendar month).
- Please familiarize yourself with the timeline of the site, as it must be referenced in your application.
- Characters 1-10 are free! To have more than 10 characters, you must purchase them in the Galleon Shop (LOCATED HERE).
| IN CHARACTER - No god-modding or power-playing is allowed. (No controlling others' characters without permission, and your character is not invincible.)
- We do not have an official word count requirement, but we do ask you to supply at least 1-2 paragraphs for your posts.
- Use [TW] or [TRIGGER WARNING] in the subject if a thread is going to cover a more sensitive topic (still PG-13).
- Staff are gradually reintroducing site-wide plots. However, plots will only move if members participate.
- Member-created plots can be just about everything, as long as they stay within the rating of the site.
- Member-created plots can't affect the vast majority of the UK and Ireland unless the majority of members are participating in the plot. (In other words, you have to get everyone on board and participating for it to affect the majority of characters). Small-scale plots in the UK and Ireland are doable, as long as you get most people in that area to participate. Plots in other areas of the world are completely open!
- That said, we do not allow school-related plots. Students can have their usual school drama and teenage drama, but we are going to be leaving the Hogwarts campus free of all danger.
| ACTIVITY - We have new activity guidelines that have been enforced since June 1, 2023.
1. Characters must be posted around one (1) time per calendar month, or they will be marked inactive until they have been posted again. Owls, journals, threading with yourself, and similar threads do not count toward character activity.
1a. Canon characters will be held strictly to this rule. This means characters who are on the canon list.
1b. Original characters have more flexibility.
2. Inactive characters have one (1) calendar month to be reactivated before receiving a second warning.
3. Anyone with an inactive character will not be eligible for new character creation until all of their characters are active again.
3a. Inactive characters will not be removed from claims, but if an active character wishes to usurp a position that an inactive character is in, this will be granted. For example, if your inactive character is the Editor of the Daily Prophet, and someone else wants the editor role and they are active, the inactive character will be rendered unemployed.
4. After six (6) calendar months of being inactive, a character will be deleted.
5. Character reactivation is unlimited. It does not matter how many times a character goes inactive. As long as they are reactivated within the time frame, they will not face further action… except irritating your fellow members and facing fewer plots as a result.
6. Again, if you're revising for exams, fighting for your country, or just have an exceptionally busy month or two ahead with work, let staff know in advance, and we will be flexible. Likewise, we reserve the right to impose stricter rules if we find that our leniency is being exploited.
| PLAYBY & GRAPHICS - We require all characters to use real humans as play-bys for their likenesses, and these individuals must be public figures in some way.
- Play-bys should be age-appropriate for the character, and all images used of an individual must have been taken when they were age 14 or older. Please use caution when choosing play-bys for characters under the age of 18.
- All characters need to have avatars and hover images of the character’s play-by. Graphic sizes are 150 pixels by 150 pixels for the avatar and 230 pixels by 400 pixels for the hover image.
- You can also use the optional mini-profile image, which is 190 pixels by 100 pixels.
- Hover images must be still (no animated GIFs for the hover!), since this creates lag for some users. You can use GIFs for avatars and mini-profile images, though.
| OPTIONAL: MUGGLES AND SQUIBS - These are not "rules", but they are included so that everyone is aware they are playable!
- Squibs are the non-magical offspring of magical parents. They can't perform any magic, but unlike Muggles, they can interact with the wizarding world without any hindrance.
- Muggle/No-Maj: To make a Muggle, they need to have some sort of connection to the wizarding world (such as a close relative, a lover, etc.). Muggles can't interact with several things in the wizarding world (ex: they can't see Dementors), and anti-Muggle charms make it impossible for them to go to locations such as Hogwarts and dragon reserves.
