Lucy loved helping people, which was why she was in the library helping a first year write an essay when the attack started. They were going on how much bay leaf to put in a self scrubbing potion when she felt the first boom. Her eyes went wide as she felt the second one. What was going on? Another attack? She felt a ping of fear, many times the attacks were against muggle borns. Muggle-borns like she and her brother and sister.
A prefect walked into the library to escort out the younger kids and Lucy ran past him, desperate to find her siblings. Unfortunately, they were all in different houses, which meant different schedules and different hang-out spots. So she began making her way down to the dungeons. Ed would be down there, most likely, so that was where she would check first.
As she walked people ran past her, trying to find the battle, not get away from it. She didn't really care, she just wanted her family safe. As she walked, she was glad Will wasn't there, though she knew that he would be livid when he heard about this.
"Edmund!" she called when she got closer to the dungeons, the stream of people got thinner so she didn't have to fight against a crowd any longer.

Susan had been down in the kitchens when it had begun. She had been running late that morning with oversleeping and her hair taking longer than expected that she had missed breakfast. Fortunately with her knowledge of the kitchen location and a particular house elf she had befriended a year ago during a late night study session in the Ravenclaw Common Room, she was treated to a plate of her favorite chocolate croissants. Normally, Susan now tried to avoid foods with that many carbohydrates, but a girl can indulge every once in awhile.
They didn’t even hear the first boom; a trickle of dust came down from the ceiling tha nobody noticed. Suddenly, the explosions got louder, and the entire kitchens shook with the impact. Susan sprang to her feet and took the hands of her house elf friend. “Get to safety my friend, they’re not here for you,” she said softly. She let go and ran towards the exit. Her first instinct was to look for Lucy since the Hufflepuff common room was nearby, but the hallway seemed empty. Taking her wand out, she ran out of the basement and towards the dungeons, looking for Edmund.
“Edmund!”
She whipped around as she heard her little sisters voice calling for their brother. Moving through the crowds of people, she finally got to Lucy and grabbed her by the shoulders. “Lucy! Thank god I found you, I was worried when I didn’t see anyone in the basement corridors; we need to find Edmund and stick together,” she instructed. She had no idea what was going on but she knew it could not be good.

Edmund was hiding out in the Slytherin common room. He knew what day it was- April 1st- and he had no intention of being pranked. So he stayed in the dungeons. He was sitting on his favorite comfortable chair reading a book when he heard the first boom. Something was wrong and he knew it wasn't a prank. He jumped up from his seat, his thoughts flying instantly to his sisters. He had to find them!
He ran out of the common room, trying to think about where they would be. His mind was racing, a million thoughts a second. It was possible that he could find Susan in the library, though he wasn't sure if she really did too much there anymore. And Lucy ... she was probably with friends or helping someone. He had no idea where to look for her. He clenched his shaking fists as he tried to decide which way to go. His heart pounded furiously and he started moving.
He jumped when he heard Lucy's voice nearby, calling for him. Breathing out in relief, he began running toward the sound of her voice. He almost laughed in relief when he turned a corner and saw Susan standing there with Lucy, Susan's hands on the younger sister's shoulders. Though he was really relieved that he found both of his sisters so easily, Ed braced himself. He didn't like being bossed around and it was almost a given fact that Susan was going to be bossy now. It was just her nature, especially in dangerous situations.
"Lucy! Suse!" he called their names as he raced down the hallway towards them. "Do either of you know what's going on?" he asked curiously. If he was being honest with himself, Edmund wanted to go and see what was going on. And he wanted to help. Whatever was happening wasn't good and he didn't want to hide and wait it out. "Maybe we should go check it out ..." he suggested cautiously after a few seconds.

Lucy put her hands on both of Susan's thankful to have found her, and just a few moments later Edmund ran into view. Lucy broke free from Susan's grip and hugged Edmund.
"I don't know what is happening! and... Edmund... I don't think we should go up there." she let go of him and stepped back as she said this, worry in her voice. She was worried about the people that would do this, and what they would do to her family if they were caught. Not that she knew what this was.
Looking around, Lucy noted the hallway was nearly empty. Everyone was either looking for the danger or running from it. Lucy knew she didn't want her family near it, but if there was one thing she and her siblings had in common... it was they wanted to help. And if there was danger, then there were people that needed her help. Susan, the most rational of all the siblings, might not agree. But the more Lucy thought about it the more her previous statement sounded flat to her ears.
"They may need help up there."

Edmund wasn't really surprised when Lucy hugged him, but he hadn't been expecting it and froze for a secomd. Then he patted his little sister gently on the back, trying to comfort her though he wasn't really sure if that's what he should do. Edmund wasn't the best when it came to physical contact with others.
Then she said she didn't want them to go see what was going on and Edmund closed himself off. It wasn't that he was angry at Lucy. In fact, the opposite was true. He was so relieved that she and Susan were alright, but he disagreed with her. From his experience, when it came to disagreements Edmund felt like he always lost them. No one seemed to care what he thought so it got to the point where he kept his opinions to himself and shielded others from his feelings. That was what he did now.
At the same time, he tried to think of a valid reason, of something that would help his sisters see his point of view, but he didn't know how. Then Lucy changed her mind. "They may need help up there."
Edmund smiled, relieved that this wouldn't turn into an argument that he lost. He wasn't sure why, but he felt like he really needed to go upstairs, to see what was happening and help in any way he could. "Lu, I know it'll probably be dangerous up there, but people we know are up there. I can't just leave them without trying to help," he tried to make his statement sound general, but Edmund was really only thinking of his friends. He had to make sure they were all right and wouldn't be able to stay in the dungeons, waiting to see if they returned or not.

Susan pursed her lips together when Edmund suggested they go find out what was going on. Of course one part of her was morbidly curious to see what was happening above them, even though it was most likely more destruction and quite possibly death. "I don't know, with the attacks and murders of Muggleborns this year, do you think it's really safe for people like us to be in the fray of things?" she said hesitantly. She felt relieved when Lucy initially agreed with her, but sighed when she relented to Edmund. She was concerned for her friend Braelyn, who had been acting strange lately. Not the strange that she was over-the-moon for Zander strange, but almost defeated in a sense.
"We have to stick together, and wands out at all time. Any mention of the words 'killing' and 'Muggleborn' in the same sentence, we run and find a safe place to hide. Is that understood?" she said, her voice taking a bossy tone. She knew internally Edmund would be rolling his eyes at her, but as the eldest Windsor child left at Hogwarts, it was her responsibility to her mother and William to make sure everyone was safe. She knew they would never forgive her if anything happened to either Edmund of Lucy on her watch; and she would never forgive herself either.

Lucy gave a relieved sigh when Susan didn't argue. True she didn't look too happy, but she was still willing to go up there. Her wand was in her hand, a familiar feeling spread throughout her body, it did every time she used the magical object.
As she started walking she suddenly stopped and turned around to face her siblings.
"Listen... I don't think we should tell Will and Mom about this... Maybe just say we stayed in the dungeons the whole time?" she didn't like lying to her family, so she thought of it more as keeping them safe. If they knew they had willingly put themselves in harms way.

Edmund shrugged at Susan's questions."Other Muggleborns are in the middle of things. Why should we be the exception?" he pointed out even though he was not sure that his reasoning would have any effect, but wanting to try all the same. If he could get her really on board the proceedings would go much easier, especially since he had absolutely no intention of staying in the dungeons.
When Susan started being bossy, Edmund closed his eyes briefly and held his breath. "It doesn't matter, it doesn't matter," he chanted inwardly to himself. "Susan probably feels like it's her responsibility to take charge," he reasoned even more with himself. Nope, didn't help. He opened them again, looked straight at her and rolled his eyes as he said, "Whatever." Childish decision? Yeah, but he couldn't help it. He hated it when people bossed him around, no matter who did it. Having a sibling tell him what to do- even an older one- was even worse. Sure, Susan could run when people mentioned killing and Mudbloods. She might even be able to drag Lucy along with her, but she couldn't make Edmund do anything and he wasn't going to run and hide. He started walking toward the staircases, wanting to be out of the dungeons already.
Edmund paused when Lucy stopped and turned to face him and Susan. He laughed at what she said and shook his head, leaving the smile on his face. "I think that's a really good idea, Lu. Mom and Will would freak out. They'd probably try to pull us out again ..." he trailed off for a second as he thought and his smile disappeared. "Yeah, I think it's best for us to keep this to ourselves. Good idea," he started walking to the stairs again, though his heart was pounding. He'd never admit this to anyone, but he was nervous about what he was going to find up there.

Going into the unknown foray upstairs was one thing, but not telling their mother or even Will? Susan did not like that plan one bit. "I can see why you'd think that Lu, and maybe Mum won't have to know unless something happens to one of us. But keeping it from Will? No, I will not agree to that. You know he'll find out sooner or later, and he'll know we know what happened. He may want to pull us out of school now, but keeping this from him? There won't be any arguments," she said firmly. She knew Edmund would disagree with her immediately - he tended to act out whenever she tried to take charge. She sighed; Will was always better at taking control of things and being in command - Edmund would listen to him. Susan was always pretty quiet, and preferred to be left alone with a book or magazine.
The ceiling quaked again as another explosion, this time much closer to them rocked the floor above. Trails of dust spiraled down, landing on Susans robes. Brushing it away, she led her siblings up the stairs. They had only taken a few steps, but she stopped when she heard the screaming. "Be ready to use Defensive spells if needed, and stay alert," she whispered. She wasn't as concerned with Edmund, who was in the Dueling club, but Lucy was just a fourth year; she instinctively moved so that Lucy was behind her before they continued up the stairs.

Edmund knew that Susan was concerned about going upstairs and that she felt like she was in charge and responsible for both of her younger siblings, but he was getting annoyed. He felt like she was just trying to delay their going and he didn't want to deal with that. He needed to be up there, but he also needed to know that his sisters were safe ... by keeping them with him. If it weren't that, he'd just bag the whole thing and run up the stairs. But he had to know what happened to his family. He wasn't going to abandon them. So he spoke up, "You know what? If you want to tell Mom and Will about this, then go ahead, but you're going to have to do it alone because I'm not going to help you do that. Still, you can't tell them right now so we might as well just argue about this later. Right now, there are people who need us."
He took a deep breath as he listened to Susan instruct them on what to do. They might not be in Ravenclaw, but he and Lucy weren't stupid! It wasn't like they were going to fall asleep in the middle of everything going on. He took a deep breath and shook off his annoyance. This wasn't the time to burst out. He continued up the stairs, but once they got to the top he froze for a minute. He couldn't help it. He stared at all the destruction that had taken place in his beloved Hogwarts. His muscles tightened as an all-too-familiar fury took over him. Someone was going to pay for this.

As her siblings argued over her statement that they shouldn't tell the rest of their family they had been in danger, Lucy walked ahead. They would figure out what they were going to do. And Susan did figure out what she was going to do, tell Will and Mom. As Lucy kept walking up the stairs she sighed inside, If Will knew they would be taken out of school, and might not be able to come back.
As she reached the top of the stairs, all thoughts raced from her mind, save one. The destruction around her was more than she had prepared herself for. She stopped with her eyes wide. Rubble was mixed with he tapesries and paintings on the ground, every once in a while there was a person thrown in. Suddenly, Lucy was glad she had agreed with Edmund. She needed to be here. She needed to help.
"Edmund's right, these people need our help." then she rushed over to the nearest person, checking to see if she could help them in anyway.

Susan pursed her lips as her siblings went over to see if they could help other students. She knew they didn't agree with her decision to inform William on what happened. However, this was an attack on the school, the Daily Prophet would be reporting on it and it was only inevitable William would find out. If they told him now, she could potentially talk their way into staying at school. If they kept it from him and he found out from a third party? They'd have no choice.
She knelt down by a second year wearing Ravenclaw robes that was crying for her mother. "You're alright now, we're here to help you," she said soothingly, smoothing the girls sweaty hair gently. "Does it hurt anywhere?" she asked her. As she pointed to her elbow, a blast echoed off the corner of the corridor. Stones & rubble ricocheted off onto the ground and the little girl screamed. Susan looked around for her siblings. "Edmund, Lucy, you wanted to be a part of this? Then let's see who caused it," she said, getting up and running along the wall to the end of the corridor, wand out in front of her at all times.

As soon as they reached the top of the stairs, Ed did the same thing as his sisters: went to see if anyone needed help. He found a small group of first years and checked them to make sure they were alright. They seemed to be. They were definitely shaken up and terrified, but they were uninjured for the time being. As he felt the blast from behind, he tried to ignore the stone and falling debris and focus on the first years.
He put his hand on a young boy's shoulder. "Do you know where the kitchens are?" he asked urgently. When the boy shook his head no, Edmund quickly described where and how to get there, hearing Susan shouting from somewhere behind him but ignoring her momentarily. This was important. "Take the others. Go there and don't come out until I come and get you. If people invade the kitchens, tell the house elves to hide you. They'll help," he waited for the boy to shakily agree, nodding his head, before he turned his attention to Susan.
He saw his older sister running down the corridor, wand in hand, and resisted the urge to let out a small laugh. First of all, this was not the time or place, but he did find the situation ... interesting to say the least. They basically had to force Susan to come up here, but once she saw what was going on, she threw herself into the middle of things. Like always. Sighing, he raised his wand and turned to Lucy, "You ready, Luc? We'd better go before Susan realizes we're not right behind her. We'll get grounded or something." He rolled his eyes to show he wasn't entirely serious before he continued, "Come on!"
With that, Edmund ran down the corridor, following his oldest sister. "Slow down, Sus! We weren't ready to go yet." He knew she wanted them to stay together and was trying to honor that request, but Susan was quite a ways in front of him. As he tried to catch up to her, Ed ignored the debris and destruction around him, though the tension in him grew. This was worse than he'd thought. He needed to catch up to Susan. Now.

Lucy divied out some healing spells to the students who looked like they need it. She had been practicing them recently and so her spells were more powerful than they had been. Many people were able to get up and follow the first years that were now going to the kitchens.
A blast sounded next to Lucy, she jumped a little as a wall exploded and debris flew everywhere. She got up to followed Edmund, staying low as she didn't want to be a target.
"Guys, there are still people that need us back there!" Lucy called as she ran forward to catch up with her siblings. Another blast sounded behind her. Lucy looked back just in time to see a student slide down the stone wall. "Susan!"

Susan looked back when Lucy called out to her as another corner of the wall exploded, blasting her off her feet. She let out a scream as she slammed her head against the wall and slumped down to the ground. A ringing noise in her ear and the sharp pain in the back of her head caused her to stay down. She saw in her blurry visual field a dark figure running past her towards her siblings. She groaned and gripped her wand tightly. “Stupefy!” she shouted, summoning all of her strength. The red jet of light hit the figure squarely in their back and went down, motionless.
Trying not to pass out, Susan reached her other hand to the back of her head, feeling the large bump underneath the mass of dark curls. She drew her hand back to see the blood covering her hand and began to tremble violently. “Lu….Ed…” she whispered, before her vision went black and she fell back onto her side.
