Maria shrugged nonchalantly at his statement. " I don't believe anything until I see or hear it for myself." She stated. So yes, she hadn't believed him, not fully. That didn't mean she'd doubted him either. From what she had pieced together about Samuel was that he was a very honest person. The eyeroll brought a grin and Maria immediately felt the urge to pull on another dreadlock. Just because it'd gotten a reaction out of him. When he suggested cutting them off though she pouted. "But they're so pretty. If you cut them off there won't be any hair left to play with!" She sounded truly depressed by that thought, but could you blame her? Maria loved playing with people's hair. Elias in particular felt the brunt of that obsession. Whenever she got a chance she'd play with her cousin's hair. Margaux had beautiful hair too, and she loved running her fingers through the other girl's locks. Unfortunately Viola had little hair, which was a serious downer, but the look suited them. And Samuel? Well... She'd never played with dreadlocks much.
An eyebrow raised as he laughed and asked that question. So he was learning. At least he knew that he had to be specific if he wanted straight answers. "My cousin Elias." She stated matter of fact, obviously smug and proud about it.
Samuel didn't even really react about her mentioning the Yule Ball. Almost as if he'd been expecting the subject to come up eventually. She shrugged and ran a hand through her dark hair to pull it away from her face. He'd leaned forward and Maria did as well, bringing her face closer to his own. It was still a somewhat respectable distance though. "It doesn't matter to me, but I'm curious." She answered quietly. He almost seemed to get... a little defensive when the idea of romance was brought up. "Why not? There's nothing wrong with a little romance in your life."

@maria <3 "I suppose that can be a good thing. Sometimes." He laughed. Maria was more proud in her decisions most children her age. At least from the one's he's seen here on a daily basis, and from his coworkers children. Samuel noticed her grin and his eyes narrowed at her. That wasn't a good grin, that much he'd learned from being around her enough. This was what, their fourth meeting together? They were quickly learning more and more about each other. But then the grin was gone and a pout replaced it, and even Samuel had to admit it was cute. He grabbed all of his dreadlocks in his hand and twisted them, contemplating it. "I don't play with it, Maria, nor does anyone else." And he didn't plan for anyone too. That...brought out weird emotions in him.
Maria answered his question and he nodded his head with a smile. Elias had good taste and obviously a sense of humor with his cousin. From what he's heard, this Elias fellow seemed like a good guy. He'd definitely be keeping an eye on the papers from now on about the tournament and how it goes. He's heard multiple things among the other Ministry workers but he'd like to learn for himself. Maria got closer to him, and her scent drifted over to him. Samuel's eyes narrowed slightly, breathing in her perfume. Her quiet tone brought him in though, shocked at how understanding she was being. "No, there isn't. But my last romance...didn't end well."

"Only sometimes?" Maria questioned with an exaggerated head tilt. She was good at those. In fact, she was good at exaggeration in general. It went hand in hand with her dramatic flare and inability to suppress any emotion. With ease he pulled all his dread locks away, twisting them behind his back. Out of her reach. Whether that was intentional or not... Well, actually it most likely was intentional. With absolutely no hesitation Maria reached out and caught his wrist in her hand, the hand that had been pulling the dreadlocks away. "Why?" She demanded, and from the grip on his wrist... It was almost as if she wouldn't accept anything but a proper explanation.
Maria was close enough that saw the way he breathed and the way his eyes narrowed. She wasn't sure if it was discomfort at her being close, or something... more. It couldn't be more though because he'd made it clear he didn't see her as an adult. Either way, she didn't move, maintaining that short distance between them. His answer though... She wasn't expecting that and both eyebrow raised a little. "What happened?" She asked. Not just out of curiosity this time though. It was more because whatever had happened.... It had to have hurt him.

@maria <3 "Yes, sometimes. A lot of people tend to just be truthful. But if you act like everyone is a liar, or isn't telling the full truth, that probably won't make you friends." Samuel rose an eyebrow at her. He knew that since she was so young her opinions might not change for a few years, so he wasn't going to be too crazy about the entire subject. But what did shock him was her hand grabbing his wrist. Even her hands were warm, and he could tell by the grip that he fingers were quite tiny. Samuel didn't let go of his dreadlocks, but smiled at her. "Why am I moving my hair? Or why doesn't anyone play with it?" He coughed slightly, but answered anyways instead of waiting for a response. "I'm moving it because I know you'll try to play with my hair. And no one plays with it because I don't like it." Lie number one. Hopefully he wouldn't have to do anymore.
Maria had not moved, and Samuel could still smell her perfume. Swallowing, he smiled at her. "You smell nice." He generally wasn't afraid of being honest with girls he liked, but he didn't like Maria. And he didn't want to give her the wrong idea. But he couldn't help but compliment her. Maybe that was just the respectful part of him, but she did smell wonderful. Her tone of voice got a bit louder, but Maria still sounded like she actually cared. He looked into her eyes and rose a small eyebrow. "She took everything I could give her. And then she left." Samuel wondered if she'd know what he meant by everything. He also wondered if she'd realize how much that meant to him, considering his religious views.

Friends? Maria scoffed, looking away from Samuel at the idea. "I don't need friends." She explained simply. Maria hadn't been that great at making friends since she was a child but even then she'd been terrible at it. Always had. That inability to form lasting relationships. Between her late father's extreme distrust due to his parents and her grandparents harsh discrimination.... "So why should I try to make them?"
Maria didn't release his hand. Just held out as she waited for an explanation. One she'd be satisfied with. His initial answer only made her tighten her hold on his wrist a little, silently telling him that wasn't what she meant. Finally he 'answered' though, but she still wasn't satisfied. "That's impossible. Everyone likes having their hair played with." She stated. And besides, she liked playing with hair. That was what mattered.
Well she hadn't been expecting that. Such an honest compliment. "Are you surprised?" She asked softly. Maria was one of the most vain people you'd meet, of course she'd 'smell nice'. Hearing him admit it made her smile. As he vaguely explained what happened it was obvious that Maria didn't completely understand what he'd said. At least not what he'd meant by 'everything he could give her'. "What do you mean?" She found herself asking, needing to know the answer.

@maria <3 Why? Well that seemed very obvious to him, but Maria obviously hadn't had anyone tell her what they thought of having friends, specifically Elias. "You should try because friends are good for your soul. They make you feel a little less lonely." Samuel knew being lonely was good sometimes and healthy for your body, but all of the time? Yes, family was great and all, but making a genuine connection with someone as a friend was even better, knowing they actually like you for you and not just because you are family.
Her tightening on his wrist made him glare at her, and he clenched his fist. Her words made him sigh dramatically. "Maybe you do. I..." He couldn't lie. He hated liars. And not telling her why just hurt himself. Rolling his eyes, he took a deep breath. "Fine. It's impossible. If you must know, Maria, I like my hair played with. Too much, if you get what I'm saying." Basically, it turned him on. And if he knew Maria as much as he thought he did, she'd make him say it out loud.
"Not surprised, no. More surprised that I like it." He chuckled. Maria's hand was still grasped on his. "Are you going to let me go now? I'll put my hair back." That was basically him telling her she could play with it, but rather her not. And as if he knew it was going to happen, she asked that question and Samuel groaned. He shut his eyes for a moment, and in the middle of his sentence, he opened his eyes and looked deeply into hers. "I mean, I lost my virginity to her. I was in love with her. And she took that from me, and cheated on me."

Maria rolled her eyes. Good for her soul. Hah! Keeping people at emotional arms length at all times, it was a way of life for her. "And what if you're used to feeling alone? It doesn't feel that bad." She slowly asked as she met his gaze.
She started to grin as he changed his previous answer of not liking it. That grin grew even wider when he admitted that he liked it too much. "See? Doesn't the truth feel good? You shouldn't be so shy admitting it." It almost sounded like she was praising a child or a puppy, sounding far to happy that he'd admitted it.
"Oh you do, do you?" She teased, still grinning wickedly. He really was kind, and he didn't mean it the way it sounded, but it was hilarious none the less. The grin disappeared when he offered to put his hair back if she let go of him. She pouted, but released his hand none the less. "You're no fun." The girl finally pulled away, leaning back on her hands. Him just giving in and letting her play with his hair without a fuse just didn't make it as appealing. When she played with someone's hair she wanted them to actually want it, and enjoy it. Not as a sacrifice just to get her to back off.
Oh. That. Maria's expression was almost in slight disbelief. Sometimes it was easy to forget that something like their virginity and sex was actually important. To be honest? Maria couldn't even remember who the first person she'd been with was, and she'd had so many partners. As for the cheating... Well, that was why Maria didn't date. Well until now.... But it was an open relationship. "I wouldn't consider someone's virginity 'everything'. It's not like you won't be with other people."

@maria <3 "Not to you, but it might to some people." Samuel assumed Maria probably had no friends from the way she was talking. Either that or not a lot of family. She then continued on about him being shy and her tone of voice caused him to look at her disgustedly. "I'm not some dog, Maria. Don't speak to me that way. I would've told the truth in the beginning but I thought you might try to seduce me and I wasn't about to have that happen."
Samuel just stared at her blankly, no longer amused. He shrugged when she called him no fun. He didn't care, Samuel wasn't planing on being sexually sought after in the middle of a park. He realized this probably wasn't a big deal to Maria which angered him even more. The fact that she could just go on living like this was unimportant shocked him to no end, especially considering what he had gone through. Samuel sat up, no longer closer to her and glared. "Maybe you'll be sleeping around with every person willing, but some people actually respect themselves and want to find true love. You're completely unsympathetic and immature, Maria. I don't know why I even try to have an adult conversation with you."

Maria rolled her eyes as she looked away. She talked to everyone like that, he shouldn't take it personally. Seduce though? Eh, she did that to everyone too. Again, nothing personal. "You've already made it pretty clear that you don't see me as an adult. Why would I want to seduce you? It'd be futile to try." She admitted. "Actually, I wouldn't even have to try. It would happen whether you wanted it or not." She added as an after thought. Whether he knew she was half Veela or not... Well, they'd never actually discussed that. He might have guessed the fire came from Veela blood but he'd never asked. Saying he wouldn't be able to stop from being seduced if he admitted she was sexually mature was the closest she'd gotten to flat out telling him.
Well it looked like Maria had struck a nerve. He sat up and glared, obviously angry at her callous remark. She didn't know why Samuel's chastising words infuriated her, but they did. She didn't know why his words managed to rile up a response from her, but they did. And once she opened her mouth she couldn't take back what came out. She leaned in once again, only this time her expression was one of feral rage. "Forgive me for wanting to decide who I sleep with rather then let my family sell my body to the highest bidder that thinks my whole purpose in life is to make babies and be his personal slave. 'True love' and 'Saving myself' have done nothing good in my life. So don't you dare call me immature." She hissed, her words like venom.

@maria <3 This was crazy. He was sick of arguing with her and trying to make her see his point of view. It was like she was blinded by her own thoughts. "You'd want to seduce me because that's probably what you do to every person you've met!" Samuel shrugged his shoulders. She was impossible. Maria was very open about her sexual encounters in the past and now, apparently since he saw her as a child he was the one person she wouldn't attempt to seduce. Samuel had already taken that to her being of Veela blood, which he was not surprised with what he's studied on Veelas before and her use of fire.
Now, this was the end of it. Yes, he felt sorry for her and whatever her family had tried to do with her. But what she did now was the same exact thing, except she chose who she went to. "That's your goddamn opinion, Maria. And I won't let some immature child like you try to tell me that I shouldn't save myself for someone I love. That is what is important to ME." Samuel shut his eyes and took a deep breath. This had gone from serious and sweet to angry way too quickly and his head was spinning with anger. "Don't you see, Maria? You're doing what you are saying they would, yet for free and you pick your own bidder. You may not be making babies, but you sure as hell are shoving yourself out there just like they would've. And you don't deserve that nor should you do it."

Maria didn't know anyone like Samuel. In the sense that one minute they could be getting along just fine and the next they'd be at each other's throats. Typically her 'relationships' were in black and white. But Samuel was gray and Maria had no idea how to handle that. People that ticked her off this much usually ended up burned, or at least threatened with violence. So why wasn't she doing either of those? "I don't want to seduce you!" She protested immediately and furiously. She'd mildly flirted with him, yes, but it'd been light hearted and nothing serious. But seducing him had never been her intention, not even that first time they met.
She grit her teeth as he repeated that word. Immature. Why did he have to be so damn infuriating? She hadn't even come up with a proper response to his first angry statement when he continued... and only angered her even more. Her hands finally started to itched furiously, a sign that meant she'd start a fire soon if she didn't calmed down. Balling her hands into tight fists to hide any possible sparking they might do she pulled away completely and stood up to glare down at him. "At least it's my decision!" Short, but effective. She wasn't done though. "Go shove your self righteous preaching down someone else's throat." Ignoring the fact that her hands were threatening to ignite at any moment she made a rude gesture in his direction and stormed off.
(End? Or time jump to the end of the Hosmeade trip? Or whatever you want XD)

@maria <3 Samuel stared at her blankly. She was obviously angry by his words and caused a slight outburst, but if it mattered to her any, Samuel didn't care. This off and on fighting with Maria was a small amount of time in his mind, and it wasn't worth him being angry. Normally Samuel wouldn't continue speaking to some young stranger such as her, but the more they spoke, the more Samuel began to consider her something of a friend. Now he wouldn't tell her that. She'd take it and run off all giddy with herself. "Good." If Maria even tried Samuel wouldn't fall for it. Maybe if she was five years older he might.
What he said must have angered her more, but she did the same to him. Samuel observed her closely, and saw her clench her fists and stand up angrily. A small smile appeared, seeing that he'd made her angry enough to attempt to leave. From what she had said in their first meeting, Samuel assumed Maria didn't want to set him on fire, which made him feel interested. Maria then made note to flip him off before turning to walk away. Samuel snorted, but stood up quickly and jumped in front of her, his dreadlocks flying around behind him. "If you must know, Miss Maria, it's not me preaching. It's what anyone would tell you. Now, apologize for that little finger."

Maria should just set him on fire. Anyone that ticked her off like this deserved it. So why was she stopping herself? Because she didn't want to start an even bigger scene right now or did it have to do with the fact that it was him? He wasn't anything special though.
Still unable to decide why she was even reacting this way leaving seemed like the best course of action. Just get out of there so she could calm down. Imagine her surprise though when Samuel got to his feet and in front of her with ease, blocking her escape. Immediately she was glaring intensely again. "Well maybe I don't care what anyone else says!" she snapped back, not even attempting to mask her anger. Why should she care? No matter how much people said they cared they'd leave eventually. So she shouldn't bother changing for anyone. As for flipping him off... "Make me." Well... here she was trying to convince him she wasn't immature and she had to make an immature comment like that.

@maria <3 Samuel smiled softly. He didn't usually try to delve into people too much and try to figure them out, but Maria was too interesting not to. Her snapping made his smile twitch a bit larger, and he put his hands on her shoulders, some of his hair falling forward closer to her. "I think you do care. Whether it be about what they say or think, and that's why you do what you do. But I can promise you, if you're afraid of love, you won't find it this way."
His smile turned into a smirk, and he chuckled. Even though it was an immature comment, it was Maria and Samuel didn't expect anything different from her considering the life she's been living. "I'd normally take that offer, but no thanks. You can apologize later." If Samuel had been feeling a bit more daring, and if Maria hadn't been a student, he might've thrown a kiss in there. But he couldn't. Not without feeling weird and wrong about it. "Or you could just say sorry."

Ugh, Maria really wanted to wipe that smug smile off his face. Here she was, thoroughly pissed off, and he was freaking smiling! She didn't react as he placed his hands on her shoulders, but she did scowl a little as he spoke. "I'm not afraid of anything, and i don't want to find it because I don't want it." Lie. Major lie. Maria was afraid of something. And it was that fear that drove her partially to her actions. "Shouldn't you know already that nothing good comes from love. So why bother trying?" People were just temporary. Eventually they'd leave you, and if you made the mistake of giving them your heart it's be your own fault.
His laugh seemed to calm her down just a touch, enough to roll her eyes rather then glare figurative fireballs at him. "Don't count on it." She refused to apologize. Now or later.
