April 19, 2025 Matt was still so stunned as to how or why she liked him! Wasn’t it obvious? He was attractive and talented and a musician, and had she mentioned that she liked him? He was different! And funny! And handsome! Matt Johanson was all of these wonderful things, and Oona—whose library of knowledge meant that she otherwise could come up with precisely the right word to fit any given situation—was at a loss. Still just as smiley, she countered him again. Her voice had gone syrupy sweet in a way that she had never spoken to anyone before. It was all new to her—never mind that it was induced by a potion-laced chocolate. “Matt, no!” she spoke, almost squealing. “I mean it!” Oona insisted. “I really, really fancy you.”

Even aware of what was influencing her words he still had no choice but to blush at her comments. It was as if the influencing factor had intensified somehow. That was worrisome to him, and it meant that at this point, anything could happen and any attempt to defend against it would likely not work. That said he was fully planning on still trying. There was just something wrong with letting her do something that could embarrass either himself or her, or even both of them.
"Well that's... flattering," he said carefully, not quite sure what she might try or say next. He definitely couldn't risk encouraging what she was saying, but he was also to aware that if he caused her to cry from this, it could go one of two ways, and both risked him looking like a bad guy. The best of the two was the chance that it helped force her out of the influence of the potion. The worst case was that she continued to be under its influence and someone mistakes the situation, causing him to probably get beat up.

April 19, 2025 Wow, Oona thought to herself; Matt looked even more handsome—if that was possible—when he was blushing. There was something so charming about the blush that had crept across his cheeks. Oona didn’t want to get her hopes up that his reaction meant anything serious, but she had no problem jumping to a love-potion-induced conclusion in that regard. Matt told her that it was flattering, which the Ravenclaw took as a positive sign. He was flattered, which meant that he probably felt the same way about her… Right? There was only one way for Oona to know for sure, besides her usual habit of going to the library. In other words, all she had to do was ask. Her voice was hopeful, eyes wide with anticipation. “Do you like me, Matt?”

And that was probably the worst possible question he could be asked right now. How was he supposed to answer that honestly? He didn't know her well enough to be able to say that. They had only just met, and that opened things up that he wasn't prepared to really say or ask in response of any kind. There was just a lot of concern now about how to really handle this, and he didn't like it one bit. How could he even give an honest reply? He'd just come across as a jerk. And lying would be stringing her on even if it was asked under the influence. There was only so much he could really do, and avoiding the question would have to be done in a way that kept her from remembering it. Settling his thoughts down, he thought quickly through possible detours he could send the conversation down. Ultimately however, he opted on a different approach.
"Well, some things are just best left for time to determine," he said, leaving it open whether or not he did like her. It was the best he could come up with at that moment, and it was vague enough that he wasn't stringing her on or being a jerk. At least, that's how he hoped it was perceived. At the very least words were something he could handle, and that meant he could be a little more relaxed since things seemed to stay in a verbal state.

April 19, 2025 "Well, some things are just best left for time to determine," came Matt’s answer to her about whether or not he liked her. It wasn’t the exuberantly positive answer than Oona had hoped to hear, but neither was it a negative response to her question. She couldn’t bear the thought of rejection, though—at least, not for as long as she had all of her mental energy focused squarely on one person and one person only. Without a rejection, though, she would have to cling to the next best thing: a sliver of an opening through which the hope of him liking her could break through. Especially if he was going to like her back, it somehow made sense that he would have to wait to know for sure. Maybe he wanted to make sure that it wasn’t just a fleeting feeling, and that was why he wouldn’t commit. Maybe if she asked him about it later, after they had spent more time together, then he would respond in the same way that Oona herself felt. Oona nodded her head sagely. “That’s true.” (He was clever, too. It got better and better!) “Well,” she considered, tilting her head, “if it helps, I think I love you!”
