▲ October 18th, 2025 Fourth months. That was how long Renard had been subjected to living with Ondina. He thought he could drink away his problems at first, and for a while that worked, but there were some things that were impossible to hide from with the bottle. She drove him absolutely crazy, and it was becoming clearer with each passing day that he may not have a chance to escape. A loveless marriage wasn’t exactly a farfetched concept – he was pretty sure his parents were in one, or else they were too stupid to actually understand the concept – and Renard never really cared about that to begin with. But he could have chosen literally any other woman for this, maybe even bribed a few to play the part, and yet he subjected himself to the Weasley girl. Luckily work had dragged him out to the druid island of Hy-Brasil at the start of the month, and he was making almost daily trips there. When he wasn’t, all his free time was spent in the office completing reports on his findings. As long as he returned home and the apartment was still in order, he didn’t really care if she was still there. He did a damn good job at ignoring her when he could, though it wasn’t always possible. Eventually she would lose interest in him, or at least that was what he had been telling himself for the last few months. The real problem, though, was that he hadn’t broken the news to Bryelle yet. She knew he was engaged, and he was pretty sure he had done a decent enough job explaining that it was all a fraud. Except the part with Ondina living with him meant that his sister couldn’t stay with him during the holidays like she normally did. Their parents didn’t care what she did as long as she made an appearance during Christmas dinner, the same for himself, so picking her up at King’s Cross every December had become a bit of a ritual. He could still do that this year too, but it was going to come with bad news. Not wanting to break it to her the day of, Renard had reached out to his sister via owl and invited her out to the zombie island event that had been taking place since the start of the month. He needed a break from everything, and while these sorts of events had been marred with bad luck over the last few years, he felt like getting offed during another dragon attack or explosion would probably be the best thing to happen to him yet. He’d certainly escape Ondina at that point. Arriving early, Renard wandered the food and shopping area, amazed at the theming of the whole thing. He wasn’t one for going out anywhere, other than the casino or to drink, so it was like getting bombarded with a sensory overload. The plan was to meet Bryelle at the entrance to the Haunted Forest. He wanted to see exactly how dangerous the animals inside it were, and if his vast knowledge on magical creatures would give him an advantage at not getting spooked. Strolling casually toward the entrance, he waited a few feet away and scanned the crowd for his sister. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

FINALLY SUMMER WAS OVER AND Bryelle was finally a Seventh Year. A year closer to finishing her studies and reaching sheer freedom. A year Bryelle Goyle decided to take completely and entirely seriously. But with the Halloween festivities coming around, Bryelle figured taking a break from Hogwart's stress was far from overdue. Sharing owls with her brother, the younger Goyle finally agreed to his requests on going to the Zombie Island event, their plan to meet by the entrance of the Haunted Forest.
Bryelle hadn't heard from her brother in a while, especially since his engagement to Ondina. She wasn't the biggest fan of the two of them at all, but considering the two separate lives they had, Bryelle couldn't say anything except visibly present her disgust. Bryelle only hoped the engagement wouldn't change much, and would still allow the younger Goyle to become Renard's roommate and sister over the Christmas break and even for the summer after her graduation. Wandering to the Haunted Forest entrance with a bag of candy in her hand, eyes narrowed as the Goyle tried to pinpoint her brother.
"Renard!" She called out as she found him, waving happily in his direction in an attempt to catch his attention. Bryelle made her way over then, hurrying past the small crowd that had formed near the entrance, before tugging on her brother's arm when she was close enough. "Candy?" She offered, lifting the bag up to him.

▲ His hand was halfway raised in a wave in Bryelle’s direction when she spotted him and called his name. He had spotted her out of the corner of his eye during one of his scans of the crowd, his head turning on a pivot back and forth like a desk fan. It seemed like that happened a lot with him, always arranging meetings and having to wait for the other party. He couldn’t really blame his sister for this, since she arrived on time, according to his watch. Being punctual was an unbelievably great skill to have, and he happened to be the type of person that went above and beyond to show up even earlier than that. In his mind, it made his many bosses and peers take him seriously, which was something they hadn’t done initially upon hearing he was a Goyle. He couldn’t exactly blame them for that either, since he completely understood their reasoning for being hesitant. The Goyle family was full of failures and fuck-ups; traitors and blood purists. There was a lot of ground he had to cover, and he liked to think he had done a decent job paving the way for Bryelle, should she end up in the Ministry as well. As long as it didn’t all come tumbling down with his courting of Ondina Weasley. That was a very distinct possibility, and he was already starting to take precautions to prevent from his entire image from being ruined, should she deem it so. As Bryelle arrived in front of him and offered candy, he shrugged and stuck his hand in the bag. He pulled out a pouch of Popping Pixie Wing Dust, his lip curling up in one corner at his unlucky pull. “Thanks. Could be worse, I guess,” he admitted, ripping open a corner of the bag and pouring a bit of the candied dust into his mouth. The immediate pop and crackle of the sugary dust made him want to spit it out, but like he had just said, it could have been worse. After the popping subsided a few seconds later, he cleared his throat, “Ready? It doesn’t seem like it’s that scary. I’ve been watching people walk out for about half an hour now.” Apparently the Haunted Forest experience had real creatures in it, and they were required to leave their wands behind. He didn’t get a lot of chances to see magical beasts first hand without having to stuff them into a cage or sending them into the magical ether-verse. Placing his wand down with the person attending the front entrance, he stepped past the threshold and waited for his sister to do the same thing. “Have you heard of Hy-Brasil? The island the druids inhabit?” he asked her as he went further in. “I’ve been stuck working there the last few weeks. They would be appalled by this.” MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

KNOWING HER BROTHER WOULD HAVE called her out for being late or anything less than punctual, Bryelle was somewhat glad she had left a little earlier. The Zombie Island wasn't something Bryelle had been to before but considering the stalls and areas that were around, she wanted a brief look before heading to her arrangement with her older brother. Smiling as she noticed his small wave, the younger Goyle only smiled wider as he stuck his hand in her bag of candy. Despite their age gap and clear differences with almost everything, Bryelle knew she could convince him with sharing candy. Besides, who didn't like candy?
Forming a small 'o' with her lips, Bryelle laughed quietly as she watched him, listening in for the pops and crackles the candy gave. "I kind of like that candy." She admitted, always finding enjoyment out of the popping and cracking noise it gave. She nodded as he spoke, planning to walk by his side. "Anything you say 'isn't that scary' always...turns out being scary." She added, side-eyeing him with narrow eyes. According to what Bryelle had read and overheard...The Haunted Forest had real creatures within, something she didn't believe she was ready for at all. The younger Goyle didn't mind creatures in general - depending on what they were, their purpose and who they usually attacked. But she simply didn't mind...all of them.
"I've heard of it like once or twice.." She admitted, but not really knowing much about the place aside from who resided there. "Is it actually scary there?" She added in question, picking up on her brother's words.

▲ Renard’s inability to gauge fear had disappeared within the first few months of working at the Ministry. Once he learned about all the horrible things that some of the creatures he dealt with daily could do to him, he became completely desensitized by the whole thing. While he was definitely the type to self-preserve if it came down to it, some of the creatures didn’t allow that option. At that point, was there really a reason to be scared of them? His department had fail-safes for literally anything that could happen while out on a job, and the few times he had to enact one, they worked exactly as they should. It was usually the side jobs he did that tended to lead to bad experiences, like trying to help clear out a backroom at the casino that was full of pogrebins. He fucking hated those things now. They were miserable to deal with and always made him feel like utter crap at the end of it. The only good pogrebin was a dead pogrebin, and eliminating every single one of them was one of his life goals now. Nobody deserved the fate of dying to a pogrebin horde. “I mean, I’m sure there are ghouls and probably a mummy or two. The usual harmless ones that they bring out for these things,” he reassured. It wasn’t like they could whip out a real werewolf or vampire, since they needed special circumstances. At worst, there would maybe be a boggart. He expected as much for this sort of thing. When it came to Hy-Brasil though, Renard felt more in his element. He hated the island, having been stuck there since the start, but it certainly wasn’t scary. At least not in the way that Bryelle was making it sounds. “Not at all,” Renard shook his head. “The druids are a strange people, but everything there is infused with magic. I saw more animals in the first hour I was there than I have since I started my job.” Entire colonies of bowtruckles lived in the flora of the island, and he had never seen such an abundance like that before. “Apparently they have a dragon colony that’s peaceful with them. My guess is that they do human sacrifices to appease them. But I’ve yet to actually see one coming and going, since most escaped at the start of the month.”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

WITH BRYELLE'S CLEAR FUTURE GOAL finally rooted in her brain, the Goyle knew she would have to squash her fear of ridiculous things. She hadn't told her parents nor Renard of her choices, but had finally settled it within herself of what she wanted just weeks after the new school year in Hogwarts. She knew it was fairly early to make a choice, knowing it could change at any time before she needed to submit her finalised internship applications or whatever it may be, but becoming a Hit-Witch felt right. And maybe for the next upcoming holiday - Christmas - Bryelle considered that, that would be her gift for Renard. The truth!
"Oh.." She hummed in realisation. "Ghouls and Mummy's aren't...Too bad.." She added, recalling the last time she had saw such a thing as a child - she screamed and begged to be saved, despite not needing to be saved at all. "But what if they got..Like a real vampire or something this time?" She had seen plenty of vampires - and even werewolves - in Hogwarts, because of the halfies and the creatures that roamed around the halls. "That reminds me..Did I ever tell you about that shy girl from Ravenclaw? The one who apparently fell asleep upside-down and walked on walls?.." Not bothering to wait for her brother's answer, Bryelle continued with all the 'gossip' she had heard, mentioning how the certain girl had changed entirely, and was even interested in becoming an intern in the same department Renard worked in.
"Do the druids look like us?" She asked curiously, it was a subject they had only started to learn about, but Bryelle was always eager and curious to learn more. "Animals?" She repeated in question, cocking her head to the side, the same way she did whenever she didn't understand something. The mention of a dragon colony had the younger Goyle's lips form a small 'o' before her eyes widened. "Human...Sacrifices?!" She repeated, raising her voice. "Is that even legal?!"

▲ Renard doubted that a full-blooded vampire would go out of their way to be subjected to nonsense like a Halloween carnival. Unless they were really hard up, it simply didn’t make sense to him. He worked with one in his department, and she was typically pretty nonchalant about how normal vampires were these days. The only thing that unnerved him was her pallor and the protruding fangs. But he kept his thoughts on the matter to himself, since Bryelle was telling him a story about one of her classmates that could apparently walk on walls. “No, I don’t think you did. Is this girl a full vampire?” He hadn’t heard anything about Hogwarts having a student that was, but he did know there was a list of all the half-vampire children currently attending. Similar to the werewolf list that he was constantly having to bring to the hotel to get signed once per month. The druids, on the other hand, were about as far from what he expected as could be. Yes, they were ‘hippies’ in a sense, though their attunement with nature and everything around them was something he didn’t think was even possible in the first place. “You’ve probably seen some of them before. Supposedly the Ministry requires the younger ones to still take the O.W.Ls and N.E.W.Ts here. I don’t recall that ever happening, but it’s been going on for a while now,” he shrugged. “Yeah. Any magical creature you can think of, multiply it by a couple hundred. Whole herds of griffins, and apparently an expansive underground niffler cave system too. They were everywhere.” And were trying to slink off with all sorts of things from him. He returned after his first day there missing several buttons from his suit jacket and a pen that looked like it was made from gold, but wasn’t actually. Apparently the nifflers on the island couldn’t tell the difference like the mainland ones could. “Shhh,” he motioned with his hand to get her to quiet down. “Don’t repeat that, it’s just speculation. They follow a lot of old traditions. I’m not saying that happens, but I bet it definitely has before.” The last thing he needed was for someone to overhear that and then have it traced back to him. There were some within the Ministry that wanted the island to assimilate. He just wanted the druids to put their damn barrier back up, find all of their animals, and then drift back into their invisible lifestyle again. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

SHAKING HER HEAD TO SAY no, Bryelle continued their little stroll towards the Haunted Forest. She recognised a few people that were passing but considering the Goyle wanted to spend all the time she could with her brother, Bryelle chose to ignore the people around. "Nope! But there were rumours she was just...floating in the middle of the night. But now she literally walks on the walls like a full-vampire would do.." It was crazy now that Bryelle thought about it, and more intriguing at the thought of watching someone randomly float. "One of her eyes has gone all like red also...You would think she's a full-vampire if you ever looked at her.."
Bryelle knew Renard hated talking about dark creatures altogether, but considering his job role...Bryelle didn't know who else she could really speak to about such things. "I have?" Bryelle questioned, responding to his claim. Until now, the Goyle barely paid attention to most things, or things that didn't seem to be as important anyway. But with so many events happening amongst them all, as well as the Goyle now had new tasks to focus on as a Seventh Year, she began paying attention to more things now more than ever. "Niffler cave systems?" She repeated with a wide smile. Nifflers were interesting creatures and from the research Bryelle had once read upon, she wished she could 'own' one for herself.
"Are they as mischievous as the books say? And obsessed with gold?.." She added in with a wider smile. Watching as her brother lifted his hand in an attempt to quiet her, Bryelle thinned out her lips in order to hush herself. "How can't I not repeat it!" She retorted, 'whispering' shouting at him. "You can't just..drop the sacrifice topic on me and not expect me to get all scared about it.." The more Bryelle listened to her older brother, the more she began to question if attending Zombie Island was the best choice or not.

▲ Most of his time at work prior to the incident on Hy-Brasil, was spent dealing with the things that went bump in the night. What he didn’t deal with extensively, were the vampires. One of his coworkers, a woman that transferred from Canada, was a full-vampire, and was usually the go to person in the Beast division when it came to her kind. In his own experience, there was nothing inherently wrong with the vampires. Renard knew that it was strange to be more accepting of them than werewolves, but it was also a lot easier to kill a vampire than a werewolf under the full moon was. He had no problem doing it to either if push came to shove, but he really didn’t want to be on the wrong end of a loose wolf. From Bryelle’s description of her classmate though, it definitely didn’t sound like any half-vampire ability he had ever seen listed out before. His coworkers’ kids were both half as well, she talked about them a lot, and she had never brought up wall-walking (or floating?) in any of their conversations. “Are you sure she’s only half? That’s not something they can normally do…” That was a question for Kolstad though, since that was her area of expertise. She would definitely look into it if this was some aberration in the girl’s magical capabilities. “Or maybe not? To be honest, I don’t remember seeing any strange, tree-hugging children when I was there either.” But there were definitely some that were his sister’s age on the island. One had even led him along the path up to the caves where the dragons normally nested. Thankfully the owners weren’t home. “They kept trying to nick my watch. What they didn’t know was that I charmed it to my wrist before I got to the island.” And charmed it in a seriously hung-over state, but that was neither here nor there. All that mattered was that it had worked, and he still had his watch. A few buttons on his suit jacket had gone missing though… Maybe it had been a mistake to say that the druids practiced sacrificial rituals. He didn’t even know if that was true or not. “You’ll never go there, so it’s not like you have to worry about it.” That was a safe assumption, though he was now afraid that would be the little nudge for her to run off at the first chance to try and see it firsthand. It wasn’t like she would actually see sacrifices happening, because they weren’t a thing. Maybe. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

NODDING EAGERLY, BRYELLE FISHED OUT one of her remaining pastry's that she had saved from an earlier encounter. Chewing into it, she waited until she swallowed before speaking to her brother again. "100%. She's on one of those half-vampire registry's...No one knows why she's a little different from the rest but I've never really taken the chance to speak to her.." Then again, Bryelle mainly kept to herself lately and only stuck her nose in Lily's business and school books.
Shrugging in agreement with her brother, Bryelle continued to chew on her pastry, savouring the sweet creamy flavour. At least to her own recollection the Goyle never remembered seeing any 'strange, tree-hugging' children like her brother mentioned. Laughing quietly at the thought of Renard trying to hold onto his watch, Bryelle knew her older brother would have prepared for such things. "Even though they steal almost...everything..They're still so adorable."
"You never know that.." Bryelle mumbled quietly, creating a unlikely scenario in her mind in regards to her future Hit-Witch training. She knew the training was more so focusing on dangerous sort of combat with death being the last resort, something that Hy-Brasil didn't seem to be or focus on at all. But the thought of human sacrifices was still enough for the younger Goyle to overthink something.

▲ Hogwarts students actually knew about the registries? Renard supposed that sort of made sense, because there were plenty of werewolves and half-vampire children there now. During his years, there was maybe one or two, and that had always seemed like the school was pushing it. Since he had free access to those lists, he knew who all of them were. Also because his coworker liked talking about her kids, and they were both half-vampires. She was fairly loose-lipped about them. He didn’t know if that was a good thing or not. Vampires weren’t exactly as dangerous as werewolf children could be if left unattended. “That’s certainly interesting. Next thing you know, the rest will start trying to do it too. That would cause a hell of a bureaucratic mess if one tried to fly off the stairs…" And from the way Kolstad talked, it would probably be one of her kids that gave it a shot too. Gryffindors without fear and the boldness of a vampire was a horrid combination to have. “If you could train them not to steal, I wouldn’t mind,” Renard mused. Though his new flat mate would disagree with him there. His poor cat had to be rehomed because of her propensity to almost die around animal hair. That was all on him though. He should have seen it coming. “At least until they steal the buttons off your jacket. If I hadn’t seen one with my own eyes, I would’ve sworn the trees stuck out their branches and did it themselves.” And for a magical island, that definitely was a possibility. He had seen a lot on Hy-Brasil – a lot of things he didn’t think actually existed in peace because of how he usually had to interact with them. Though it seemed he had a similar belief system about dark creatures as the druids did. They were unnecessary and a hindrance to society. Curing the werewolves would be so much better than letting them multiply. Bryelle was right. He didn’t know that she wouldn’t go to Hy-Brasil. It was a fascinating place, but not exactly meant for people like them. “True. But it’s not exactly a vacation destination right now. They have problems to deal with,” he warned. Maybe after it was all done with and she was out of school, then he could work something out with his new connections there. That was only if things were back to normal and the druids were fine with it. He kept that to himself though, because the last thing he wanted to do was make empty promises. SHRUGGING AS A RESPONSE, BRYELLE tried to imagine Hogwarts filled with half-vampires and their different abilities. Since she heard the rumour of the one Seventh Year from Ravenclaw doing it sometime ago, she had imagined Hogwarts would potentially become more chaotic. But in reality, nothing had really changed. More people were open to the idea of having half-dark creatures around them, and while Bryelle certainly didn't mind, she knew her family - potentially her parents would be against the idea of their child studying alongside a various amount of them. It was lucky enough for the Goyle and seemingly everyone that her parents were completely and utterly stupid. "I mean I doubt it...With everything that happened this year I think the Professors are watching us a lot more..They're probably trying to catch onto changes more quicker than before...But eh. I don't know." Nothing was really eventful for Bryelle after all, except for the exams she had to study for.
"Is it even possible to train them to do such a thing?" Bryelle questioned, wondering about it. She simply assumed it was just in their nature to go after things that looked...appealing to them. Though, Bryelle knew she wouldn't of minded training one. She laughed at her brothers choice of words, shaking her head gently. She always envied Renard for living the life he did. His role in the Ministry seemed far from dull and while Bryelle enjoyed her time at Hogwarts, she simply wanted to live her own life. Away from her family and the norms they expected out of her. She was sure they expected an office-type role for her, while Renard probably expected something...intellectual. She just couldn't wait for his response once she planned to come clean about her future choices.
"I suppose..." She mumbled, lifting up her bag of goods to fetch out another pastry to snack upon. The entrance was closer than before now and even as the younger Goyle stepped forward, she felt a little...Off. "Hey Renard?.." She began, a little hesitant to start her question. "You know...Millicent and Gregory are expecting...like an office job out of me. When I graduate Hogwarts anyway...Are you...Expecting something similar? Obviously not on their standards but something..conventional anyway?" The conversation wasn't essentially...planned, but with the slight fear of the forest growing a little more, Bryelle believed talks of the future were enough to distract her.

▲ The amount of oversight that Hogwarts conducted (or sometimes lack of) had always mystified Renard. They were either vigilant about the rules, and likewise involved in what the students were doing every second of the day, or ignoring them completely. While he couldn’t speak to what they were doing now, during his time it had seemed fairly hands-off, in the sense that he went about his entire seven years at Hogwarts without ever being reprimanded. And he wasn’t the perfect student either. Diligent and studious, sure, but far from being a rules nerd. The way his sister talked about it though, it had changed. The introduction of the American students and a plethora of demi-human children added to the mix complicated things. His job dealt with enough when it came to vampires and werewolves. Doing so with children as they started to understand those things on top of the normal kid stuff and ridiculous explosions and dragon attacks, it made a lot of sense that they were more watchful now. “Honestly? I doubt it,” Renard responded about the niffler. “Their base instincts are to steal shiny objects, and if they can’t pilfer those, they go for the next best thing.” In the ones he had dealt with on the island, it meant his buttons. He supposed they went for those because they were round, and could seamlessly fit into a collection of coins and other smallish, round objects. “They aren’t stupid though. Stubborn creatures for sure. I’m sure someone could manage to keep one as a pet and sort of train it in the sense that they bribe it with whatever it wants. But they aren’t dogs.” He would probably pay to see a niffler do a trick or fetch a coin and actually give it back. The next question from Bryelle was one he sort of expected to come at some point, just not now. They discussed expectations a lot. He thought about expectations just as much. He liked calling them that in his head, because obligations didn’t exactly fit the Goyle clan. If that had been the case, he would be in a completely different career, of their parents choosing, and Bryelle would be in the same boat. “I expect you to do what you want. Whatever they think is bound to be bullshit anyways, so why listen in the first place?” he reasoned. “A desk job in the Ministry is usually easy work, but it’s not the end all be all by any means. You could find something like mine, where I’m at my desk half the week and out on assignment the rest of the time. Its liberating not being tied down to a chair all day.”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

THE THOUGHT OF HAVING A trained Niffler was intriguing, but given the Goyle's impulsivity matched with her short span for liking such things, she knew she would probably get frustrated trying to train almost anything. It was funny, considering her mother trained robots or whatever they were - (Bryelle never paid attention) but that's what separated the two women of the family. By their personalities and likes overall. "I couldn't own a stubborn creature or pet when I'm stubborn myself." The younger Goyle found herself muttering.
Though at Renard's answer to her next question, Bryelle felt a small glimmer of hope all over again. Though she still wasn't ready nor comfortable enough to reveal her final choice for when her time at Hogwarts finished. Instead the younger Goyle nodded, smiling up at her brother. "Your job sounds easy enough. Office on some days, outside on other days. I wouldn't mind that."

▲ He realized that he should probably eventually tell her about how he had sent Baron Bartholomew to a new home a few months ago to make room for Ondina (otherwise he feared that his fiancée would kill the poor creature). The cat would have been perfect living with Bryelle after she got out of school, assuming she wanted to take him in. He had virtually kept to himself most of the time Renard was home, and the intelligence of the creature was unmatched to anything he dealt with on a daily basis at work, coworkers included. There was always the option of asking the person he had rehomed the Baron to if they would be willing to allow his sister to have him, though it had been several months already. That was enough time for him to be bonded with his new owners. While everyone always looked at Renard like he had two heads because of his stoniness, he did care slightly about the damn cat. It had kept his flat from being completely empty and cold. “Maybe a dog then. They’re dumb and listen to whatever you want as long as you bribe them with food,” he offered to her. And having one close at hand to accidentally send Ondina into an allergic fit if he needed one wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world either… “Come work for me then. If it’s not stimulating enough, intern transfers are common enough between the departments as long as you’re quick about it.” He’d personally lost a few interns over the years, though that was absolutely due to having to deal with ghouls or boggarts on their first days. Not everyone could handle seeing their loved one’s guts strewn out over the floor of a five-star hotel bathroom because a boggart decided to take a nap in the cabinet under the sink. His had changed recently from a troll to his fiancée, so seeing a fake dead body was absolutely preferable over Ondina. Having to explain that to the next intern would probably take an entire afternoon to get through though. “Or if you have anything come to mind before graduation, let me know. It might be hard to believe, but I do have some contacts in other departments,” he boasted. Not a whole lot since his job kept him out of the office and away from other humans more often than not, but enough key creature captures for the right people in the Ministry had given him the sort of interactions he’d been hoping for. Having an owed favor was unbelievably important. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0
