Ah – so it was people who were close to Dom who thought that she was trying to get hurt. Jamie frowned a little when Dom said that people in her house got annoyed with her recklessness. People all had their own flaws, and at least recklessness came from a good place. Then again, most flaws were just an overabundance of a virtue, so maybe Jamie was being unfair, because there were definitely some things that annoyed her to no end, and she didn’t give those people the benefit of the doubt. Dominique found the next textbook easily with Jamie’s hint when she was close to her, and Jamie followed Dom to the banister. She watched the other girl wobble a little as she slid down the banister, and then hopped up herself, holding her arms out in a surfer dude pose as she slid to make Dom laugh. Jamie hopped off at the bottom, glancing at Dom. “I’m surprised you tried for the first time so high up.” The Hufflepuff said as they began prowling the fifth floor. “I tried sliding on the banister for the first time from the first floor to the Great Hall, so if I fell it wouldn’t be as far.” Plummeting from the sixth floor down would probably be deadly. Then again, maybe that was just Dom’s recklessness taking the reins again.

Dom laughed when she watched how Jamie was descending the banister. Perfect! "I can see I'm going to have to really practice to get to your level," she teased with a smile. Then her eyes widened a little as Jamie talked about the height, then shrugged. "To be totally honest, I didn't even think about the height. I was too excited by the idea of sliding down." Typical Dom style, but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. She started looking on this floor, trying to be thorough from the get-go so she wouldn't have to walk up and down it several times. She looked around, over and beneath objects as well as inside them if possible, glancing back at Jamie every once in a while to see if she could get a non-verbal hint. Maybe Jamie would be looking at the hiding places.

“Took me seven years to get to this point.” Jamie warned Dom when the Ravenclaw said she was going to need a lot of practice. Jamie’s mother had always expressly forbidden her from sliding down the flights of stairs, even in the hotels where the banisters were perfect for the task. Once she didn’t have anyone preventing her from doing it, Jamie had jumped on the whole slighting thing with zeal. “I figured that.” Jamie said with a laugh when Dom said that she hadn’t thought about the height. “Try not to give me a heart attack though, would you?” Dom had been fine, not that wobbly, but if she had tipped more than that, Jamie probably would have screamed or something. Dominique was being thorough in her exploration of the floor, so Jamie didn’t think she would find it difficult to find the book she had stuck to the underside of a sofa in a sitting area.

Dom shrugged when Jamie said it took her seven years to be able to slide down the banister like that. "Well, I only have a few months, so I guess I'm just going to have to learn it faster," she said with a smile on her face. She was up to that sort of challenge. Dom loved trying out new things and succeeding at them. Then she laughed, "I'll try ... but I tend to do that to people around me. It's not on purpose, if that's any consolation." Dom didn't have many of the reservations that others did. She did what she wanted and had a bit of a habit of taking others by surprise because of that. She searched down the hall and finally found the book stuck in a couch. "Ah-hah!" She announced, holding it up in the air triumphantly. "Time to move on to the next floor!" She moved over to the banister and sat down, leaning over slightly so she could see how far of a drop it was. "Huh, I guess we are pretty high," she commented lightly before starting to slide down.

Dom said that she only had a few more months to learn how to slide down the banisters, and Jamie shrugged. “It’s not like Hogwarts is the only place with banisters.” She said. It was true that there probably weren’t as many places that had handrails and were okay with people sliding down them, since generally it was fancier places that had such fixtures. When the Ravenclaw said that she tended to give people heart attacks on accident, the Hufflepuff chuckled. “It is consolation.” Jamie assured the other girl. She didn’t like it when people went out of their way to make other people miserable, and she had already figured that Dom wasn’t that sort of person. Jamie smiled when the other girl found the next book, pleased with the clip that the scavenger hunt was going on; she had worried that it would feel like it was dragging on, but it seemed that it was going quickly enough so as not to bore Dominique. Jamie happily followed Dom down the banister. “Yeah, we are.” She agreed as they began to explore the fourth floor. “Every time we get lower, though!” Jamie exclaimed. Obviously…that was kind of the point of stairs.

Dom shrugged back at Jamie's comment, "No, but Hogwarts has the best banisters I know, so I should do my best to learn on them." She smiled wryly, "Just don't expect to see me walking down the stairs for a while," she confessed with a small chuckle. Then she laughed, "Yes, I never try to freak people out on purpose. It just comes naturally," Dom teased. Surprisingly, looking for all her books was lifting her mood immensely. Not that she wanted to do it daily, but it was a nice change and she enjoyed it. Dom opened her mouth in faux surprise, "Wait, that's what happens when we go down the banister?" she teased in an obvious voice. "Let's see what I can find here," she added as she began her search of the fourth floor. Where to look ...

Jamie nodded when Dom said that Hogwarts had the best banisters she knew of. Jamie couldn’t think of a better place, either. “Be careful if you do it when holding something.” Jamie cautioned. If Dom’s bag was in the wrong position and it was heavy it could catch her off balance, and that would be a real shame. Since Dominique wasn’t in the business of freaking people out on purpose, as she had just said, Jamie didn’t think that would be a problem, but sometimes people forgot about banal stuff like a bag shifting the center of gravity. “I know, it’s strange.” Jamie said dryly when Dom began to tease the Hufflepuff for her comment about stairs. She had that one coming to her. The Ravenclaw began looking for the book, and Jamie promised herself that she wouldn’t say anything. If Dom had ever tried sitting at one of the desks on the fourth floor, she would know that there was an annoying gap between the edge of the desk and the wall – just big enough for a book to slip through and land on the floor, in fact.

Dom shrugged when Jamie told her to be careful if she was holding something. Careful wasn't really a word that Dom listened to, as a general rule, but she knew her friend was trying to be helpful, so she held back the sarcastic retort. She could be nice, for now. She laughed at Jamie's reaction to her teasing, glad that she was being such a good sport. Dom walked down the corridor, trying to be extremely thorough, but when she got to the other end, she hadn't found anything. She looked at the Hufflepuff with narrowed eyes. "You're trying to be sneaky. Don't worry, I'll find it," she said as she started back, being even more thorough this time. She looked on top of, underneath and around everything. Then, halfway down the hallway, she realized she should be looking behind things as well. And that's where she found the next book. "That was very clever," she told Jamie, wagging a finger at the other girl as she headed toward the staircase. Hopefully there wasn't another book on this floor, but she was ready to move on.

Jamie chuckled when Dominique looked at her and said that she was trying to be sneaky. “Isn’t that kind of the point of a scavenger hunt?” She asked. If the items were just laying out, then it wasn’t any fun! Maybe Jamie ought to have thought of clues, so when Dominique accused her of being sneaky, she could just say that everything the girl needed to know was in the clue. However, Jamie was certain that the Ravenclaw would be able to decipher any and all clues given to her in a few seconds, so this scavenger hunt would have been a lot shorter. Dom complimented her on being clever, and Jamie gave her a wry smile. “That means a lot coming from you.” Or from any Ravenclaw, really, but Jamie considered Dom to be especially clever, so the compliment was therefore especially good. “You might want to keep looking, though.” Jamie said innocently. She figured it was only fair to give Dominique a warning on at least one of the floors that had an extra book on it, especially since they had already passed by another book that Dom hadn’t yet looked for.

Dom laughed, "Yes it is and you are doing a great job!" Dom was really enjoying herself with this scavenger hunt and she knew it was because Jamie actually put in effort to make it fun. She smiled when Jamie said that her being clever meant a lot since Dom said it. "Are you saying you think I'm clever?" Dom teased, raising an eyebrow at her friend. She knew that being clever was basically an expectation if you were in Ravenclaw, but that didn't necessarily mean it was true. Still, Dom thought herself clever so she liked that assumption. At Jamie's hint, Dom spun around and started looking at the corridor more closely. She missed a book! Jamie was being clever. "Alright, here I go again," she said as she looked more carefully at everything in the corridor.

Jamie smiled at the sound of Dominique’s laughter. That was much better than the slight sullenness (and confusion) Jamie had seen on her face when she had first come to retrieve the other girl. Looking at her, no one would be able to tell everything that had happened to her in the past year. “Of course I think you’re clever.” Jamie said, taken slightly aback that Dominique would think that Jamie would think anything otherwise. “You’re a Ravenclaw, and you’re an excellent student and Quidditch tactician.” Everyone expected Ravenclaw to be poor at Quidditch because they were so into their books, but they were brilliantly smart with their moves, which meant that they didn’t have to be stronger or faster than whatever team they were playing. That was why Jamie was trying to become better at crafting her own Quidditch plays. Jamie smiled a little when Dominique said she was going again in response to Jamie’s clue about there being another book. “Do you want me to try to make up a riddle for this one?” Jamie asked, wondering if she’d be able to come up with a clever clue on the fly.

Dom smiled when Jamie said that she thought she was clever. "Well thanks," she answered as she turned back to the corridor and her search. Then Jamie started explaining her reasons and Dom turned to look at her again. She grinned as she nodded. "You're right. Of course I'm clever, since I can do all of that," she teased. She was surprised that Jamie's book hunt was cheering her up so much, but talking to the girl was giving her distraction, as was the search for her books, which was not as easy as one might think. Jamie probably had no idea how much she was helping Dom by doing this. She paused in her search when Jamie asked if she wanted a riddle. "Of course I do! I love riddles!" Dom announced triumphantly, interested to see what the hint would be.

Jamie shrugged when Dominique thanked her for what she said. She didn’t see why she was being thanked for telling the truth as she saw it, but she didn’t particularly mind it, either, especially since Dom seemed to be in such a good mood. Brushing her off probably wouldn’t help that mood, but Jamie didn’t want to overdo it, either. The Ravenclaw girl quickly agreed to Jamie creating a riddle as a clue, and the Hufflepuff bit her lip. She had hidden a book in a flowerpot – after making sure that it was entirely dirtproof, of course – which meant that her clue was going to have to point to a flower somehow. “When the sun shines, that’s what I turn my face to, and after the darkness, I’m covered in dew.” Hopefully Dom wouldn’t accidentally lead them on a wild goose chase to the greenhouse for that clue…

Dom smiled, wondering if she made Jamie feel uncomfortable. That was a thing that happened and she didn't want to make her feel that way, but Jamie didn't seem to be upset so she was just going to let it go. She listened to Jamie as she gave the riddle and then thought for a moment. "Hmmm .... it's got to be some sort of a plant then ..." Obviously. With turning your face to the sun and being covered in dew, that was obvious. So Dom started looking around the corridor. There were a few plants. Would it be close to those. Dom moved to the nearest plant and looked around it ... nothing. Would Jamie have put her book inside the pot? Dom looked at the dirt carefully. Something looked off about it, so she stuck her hands in, laughing triumphantly when she felt something hard. "I found it!" She announced happily, pulling her book out and looking at it. "What did you do to keep the dirt off?" she asked curiously.

Dom really was clever, Jamie thought slightly enviously. She was the one who had made the clue and she wasn’t entirely sure that she would have been able to figure it out if she was on the other end. The other girl had quickly ascertained that it was a plant, though, and just as quickly started searching through the pots, figuring that the book was buried after not seeing it on top. When the Ravenclaw asked how she had kept the dirt off, the Hufflepuff smiled. “Modified Impervious Charm.” Jamie answered. Normally the charm was just used for liquids, but Jamie had found one that allowed solids to slide off of the book easily, too. It had been tricky to perfect, but Jamie had wanted to have a variety of hiding spots, so she had been willing to do the research. “I can teach it to you sometime. I tried it on my Quidditch robes once, but apparently it doesn’t work for stains – just for particles.” Jamie hoped that that made sense. If the spell worked on everything, then there would be no use doing laundry, after all.
