Although it would have fit for Dmitri to have asked his next question—"Is it?"—teasingly enough as to be aware of the fact that Tamatha didn't think that she had ever heard anyone order an affogato (and never mind a guy like Dmitri), he sounded entirely genuine about it.
"I mean, I think it is," Tamatha clarified with a little shrug. Maybe some people didn't think that adding ice cream to espresso was especially fashionable, but she did. Besides, it was a pretty clever way of co-opting coffee to include ice cream, too.
After she had paid for what they had ordered, Dmitri motioned her over to a table nearby. He went ahead and pulled out a chair for her, at which she smiled. "Thank you," she told him, seating herself and setting her hands around the edges of the chair to assist Dmitri in scooting it forward.

"I mean, I think it is," was Tammy's response to his genuine question. The more he thought about it, it was fairly fancy. But he really didn't care about that. He was more interested about having a sweet treat when he ordered it. Perhaps it was a bit out of the stoic genius character type that he often portrayed. But he liked what he liked.
Tammy so kindly paid for their food and the two moved over to a table. "Your welcome" He said as she sat in the chair that he had pulled out for her, assisting her in scooting it in like a perfect gentleman. Dmitri then moved across the table and sat down, lounging in the chair as he did. He took the chance to take another good look around the small cafe. "It really is a nice little place." He observed.

"You're welcome," Dmitri told her after pushing her chair in at the table. He then went around to the place across from hers, sitting down there and relaxing. "It really is a nice little place," he commented.
"It is. It shouldn't take too long for us to get our stuff," she noted. Assuming that the girl who was working there was on top of things, it wouldn't take very long to get their orders ready. At most, scooping the ice cream for Dmitri's affogato would take the longest.

Dmitri acknowledged Tammy's comment that it wouldn't take too long, and he could hear the girl working as she did. It helped that they were currently the only ones in the cafe. She was quire acurate at this. It didn't take long for the young girl to come out and bring them both their drinks and pastries. He looked the young girl in the eyes and smiled "Thank you" She blushed and shyly retreated behind the counter.
Shortly after that, a group of gabbing young adults entered to order as well. Dmitri tried his pastie and smiled "You have good taste." Then he listed his cup to his lips.

Tamatha wasn’t far off in her estimation that it would only take a little while for their orders to be ready. She was glad for that, too, so that she didn’t have to embarrass herself and eat her words while they waited ages for the girl who was working at the café to prepare what they’d bought for them. They were brought their drinks and pains au chocolat, and Tamatha had to laugh a little once the café girl had gone away from their table at her reaction to Dmitri. Admittedly, he had begun to make her feel that way, too.
A few other customers entered the café then, although Tamatha didn’t pay them much attention, watching as Dmitri tried his pastry. “You have good taste,” he smiled.
“Why, thank you,” Tamatha smiled back at him, taking a sip of her espresso to hide the fact that she might have been blushing a little, too. It was easier to blame it on the heat of the coffee. “I’m glad you liked my suggestion.”

“Why, thank you,” the woman on the other side of him had said. It was the truth. And while Dmitri wasn't necessarily known as a truthful person, it was still true. He did catch her cheeks changing colors as she placed her cup to her lips. He would have put more thought into it, but his attention had been split. There hadn't been many people out today, and while it could be considered a chilly day, and this was a warm cafe with good food in it, he didn't quite like the fact that people had entered. He tried to keep focus on the woman he was with, but there was part of him that couldn't help but run through the ideas of who they could be and why they had entered. Because of his past, he was always a bit weary about people that seemed suspicious to him. He had been taught to trust his instincts, even if they were wrong.
"I'm glad you showed me this place" He smiled at her, only slightly registering what she had said after thanking him.

"I'm glad you showed me this place."
"You're welcome." Tamatha didn't know if it was an instance of "great minds thinking alike", but she decided to take it as one. Too, she appreciated how complimentary Dmitri was of her, especially after how awkward things had been over at Eeylops. She figured that she probably needed to explain that, too. Tamatha had her reasons for being a bit squeamish about death, and they went beyond the fact that she could be slightly prissy.
"And I'm sorry about earlier, in Eeylops," she added after another sip of her drink, even though Dmitri hadn't asked. "I'm just… not the greatest with death, in general." Tamatha knew that Dmitri would probably have questions for her about what she'd said, but she also didn't know if she knew how to answer the things that he would probably ask her, either.

"And I'm sorry about earlier, in Eeylops," with this comment, Dmitri's focus was brought back to Tammy. Before he had a chance to respond to inquire what she was sorry about, she continued to speak. He didn't feel like she had anything to be sorry about. "That is nothing to be sorry about." Those who could say that they were comfortable around death, or with the idea, deffinatly had issues. There were levels, animal death was something that some people had huge issues with, but in Dmitri's experience, there were hunter animals and prey animals. "Is it something personal. You don't have to tell me if it's too painful." He said, taking some of his drink.

Even though Dmitri answered her and told her that she had nothing to be sorry for, Tamatha still felt as though she owed him an explanation. She wasn't entirely sure how to go about it, though; that was the problem. She didn't talk about what happened to anyone. She didn't think that she had ever talked about it to anyone but her sister and her parents, and those conversations, too, were few and far between. Maybe it would be better to have it out in the open.
"Is it something personal?" he asked her. It was, though Tamatha really only pushed her lips upwards into a line. "You don't have to tell me if it's too painful."
She thought about going back on it. He'd told her that she didn't have to tell him, but that was only going to make him wonder. It would have been better, she thought for a second, if she hadn't brought it up.
But Tamatha decided that she was still going to go explain herself. "Yeah," she answered Dmitri as she breathed out, looking down at her coffee. "Um, my little brother—he died a few years ago."

Dmitri saw the woman's reaction to him asking if it was personal. Guess it was. There was a pause after he had told her that she didn't have to tell him. This would be the perfect out for her, and he wouldn't blame her for any of it. Out of all people, he knew quite well that everyone had a past. There were always things in people's past, and maybe even present, that they would prefer to keep things quiet. He wasn't one to explain his past, especially to people he didn't really know.
She glanced at her coffee after speaking. Reading the situation, he felt it was right to keep quiet at this moment. Digging into your personal affairs could be difficult. He dreaded for the time that he had to account all his past actions to someone. Dmitri was positive that it that day ever came, the person that he explained his past too, would simply hate him after that. "Um, my little brother—he died a few years ago." she finally said. He took a sip of his coffee, giving him a moment or silent respect. "I'm sorry to hear that." Dmitri couldn't imagine how he would feel if one of his sisters died. He only imagined that it would be difficult. He knew it would be harder than putting his father in prison, which he did. "I don't know what I would do if a sibling of mine died." Even though he had no idea where his oldest sister was, and what she was doing. Perhaps she was in a dumpster somewhere.

Dmitri sat in silence for a moment, and Tamatha wondered for that second or two if maybe she had startled him. He expressed that he was sorry to hear that, but, luckily, it hadn't scared him off. "I don't know what I would do if a sibling of mine died," he said, and she shook her head.
"I… wouldn't wish it on anyone." It wasn't something that she ever wanted to go through again, and that was probably why her Boggart had been seeing Cameron dead, Tamatha thought. She couldn't fathom losing Cam, too. "Sorry, I know that's… not the happiest topic of conversation in the world," she admitted. Dmitri hadn't come there to hear about her personal problems. "It's why I moved here from Canada."

She said that she wouldn't want anyone to lose a sibling, which wasn't Dmitri's intention with his comment, but that didn't matter now. She then apologized. "No need to apologize, you seemed to have grown from the experience" he complimented, even though he didn't know her before the indecent. It was important to grow from the hard things. From her comment, it seemed to have happened a while ago. It was probably why she could talk about it so calmly.
He felt as though he shouldn't ask for more details. It would probably come across as being rude to push for more details on such a painful subject. "Do you think you would ever go back to Canada?"

Dmitri told her that she didn’t have to apologize because it seemed as though she had grown from the experience. That was one way to put it, she thought, but she wasn’t about to hold that against him. It was strange, really… As much as she wished that she hadn’t been through that experience, it was why she was sitting in some café in London and not—say—Montreal. It was why she had up and left her family when they had needed her most. It was why Cameron felt as though the blame was all on her. It was why she had had to come across her sister doing to herself what she had done—promising her sister that it was all okay, and then telling their parents what had really happened so that Cam could get help. But, without that, what would have happened if the rest of the world had kept going precisely as it had? If the kids at Ilvermorny still hadn’t been able to go back? What would they have done? Would she have stayed in Canada while they sent Cameron off to Hogwarts without anyone there to watch her, except from a whole continent away? There were too many hypotheticals, and Tamatha realized that she was staring into her coffee again. “Do you think you would ever go back to Canada?” Tamatha blinked, having to recall what Dmitri had just asked her in her head before she could formulate a response to his question. “Permanently? I don’t know,” she admitted. Maybe eventually, she thought, as long as her parents and Cameron were living there. “But I’ve, um… I’ve been back,” she added, “to visit.” Hopefully, the next time that that happened would stay a happy memory. “My job and everything is here now, though,” she explained, sipping her drink. “And I’m my sister’s guardian for as long as she’s at Hogwarts.”

Death was a somber topic. It wasn't one he was to familiar with himself, but the woman sitting across form him certainly seemed to have been. She stained into her coffee, lost in her thoughts. Even after he had spoken, it took her some time to come back. She mentioned that she didn't know if she would permanently go back to her home land, but she had visited. That meant that she still had attachments, in some form, back there. He thought of his own native Russia, and wondered himself if he would ever go back permanently.
Roots were important to have, and while it felt like he had none, other than his sister who was living with him. Dmitri was working now to do the same. To establish a sense of belonging and home. She then mentioned that she was guardian over her sister. That was quite fascinating. So was Dmitri, though it was clearly a different situation. He gave the woman a polite smile, so they had that in common. "So, your sister stays with you when she is on holiday?" He inquired. His sister was home schooled, and being the overprotective older brother that he was, he wasn't about to give out details.

“So, your sister stays with you when she is on holiday?” “Mm-hmm. Yeah,” Tamatha nodded at Dmitri’s question. She didn’t think that Cam was exceptionally excited about the arrangement, but it was what it was. It was strange for Tamatha when she did have her around, too, though she didn’t mind as much as she might have in the past “She’s in a dormitory at Hogwarts most of the year, though,” she added, which was probably obvious enough. “But I’m here if she needs anything.” That was the most important thing; she was more easily accessible in the event of an emergency, and Hogwarts had had a few. Tamatha took another bite of her pain au chocolat. “Do you have siblings, Dmitri?”
