Guess he was right. It also made sense that her sibling would be living at the school during the year. He was sure that was how most rewarding schools ran, though it was all hearsay to him. He nodded in agreement when she said that she would be there for her sister if anything came up. That was the important thing. He thought careful about the girls question. It wasn't a hard question to answer, but he wasn't sure how much information that he was going to give. She was still a stranger after all.
"I do, two sisters. One is here while the other is in Russia." He then took another bite from his pastry

Dmitri answered that he had two sisters, one of whom was there—either in England or in the wider United Kingdom—and one of whom was back in Russia. Tamatha figured that she sort of understood what that was like; her parents were still living in Canada, while Cameron was there with her. Russia was closer to them, actually, than Canada was—come to think of it, though it didn’t really feel that way. She smiled a little, knowing better than to assume anything about Dmitri’s relationship with his siblings, though she couldn’t help her curiosity. “Are you close with them?” she wondered. If he wasn’t she wasn’t going to push the subject, but she had already told him about her siblings. Maybe not the full story, but enough.

Growing up, his sisters was all he had. His father was useless, and mother was not in the picture. As the three grew up, he took it upon himself to protect the girls from danger, including their own flesh and blood. The man who used them to make money wasn't above beating the children if they didn't bring enough money back.
“Are you close with them?” Tammy had asked and Dmitri gave a tender smile to his coffee, thinking about the good times. "I'd like to think that I am, though one has gone down a path that's not the best. My other sister I am still quite close to." He wasn't happy what his older sister was doing, but he couldn't blame her for using her....assets to get money from ignorant and stupid men. His younger, he has gone to greater lengths than he would ever tell anyone to keep her safe. He has also done his best to help continue the girls magical education.

“I'd like to think that I am,” Dmitri smiled. She was trying to be better about that, herself, but she knew how hard it could be at times. “Though one has gone down a path that's not the best. My other sister I am still quite close to.” Tamatha nodded, her facial expression becoming more serious as Dmitri mentioned that one of his sisters hadn’t gone down such a great path. Unless there was something that Cameron wasn’t telling her, her sister was doing alright. Although their personalities and interests couldn’t have been more different, Cam was a pretty normal teenager, and Tamatha was glad that things hadn’t gone any further in that direction. “I’m sorry,” she acknowledged, not intending to dwell on it unless Dmitri wanted to explain what had happened. “That must be really hard.” She didn’t know how she would react if Cameron ended up doing anything else destructive… It was bad enough that she had harmed herself and that she took the blame for what had happened to Arthur. “I’m, uh… not the closest with my sister, either,” Tamatha admitted, hoping that it might make Dmitri feel a little bit better about the situation with his one sister. “Because of what I mentioned before,” and she had already mentioned that she was a brat as a kid. Sometimes it felt like it was a crime that she wasn’t closer to Cameron. It was that thought that they were sisters, so they shouldn’t have had any reason not to be close. She brought her lips into a line and paused. “But she’s a good kid. She is.” Thinking about it, she laughed a little then. “I can’t imagine what it would be like to deal with a mini version of myself at her age, though.” Essentially parenting the teenage version of herself would have been a nightmare.

The woman apologized after he explained about his older sister. She had nothing to apologize for. She didn't even know the girl. “That must be really hard.” she then said. "Not really. It was her chose," The next two words he said in his native tongue, Russian, he didn't want Tammy to get the wrong idea. "the whore." He gave a polite but enchanting smile cross his face. He didn't intend to insult his sister, that was just what she had chosen to be. The poor girl didn't have many choices, because she wasn't born with magical abilities like him and his younger sister. He nodded when she mentioned that she wasn't close with her sister, mainly because of the death in their family. He agreed that sometimes it was hard to be close to people when bad things happen, but he didn't say anything. He felt like he would need to explain about his past to bring his point to life, and that was something he wouldn't do.
"I feel the same way." He would defiantly react poorly if he found his younger sister doing what he did when he was a teenager. Though, he fought to protect the girls, and had refused to teach the younger girl anything more than simple self defense. He then took another drink of his coffee that was just about gone.

Tamatha gave a slight nod as Dmitri spoke again. She wasn't going to go into the comment that he had made about his sister. First of all, it wasn't really her business to say anything; he'd said it in Russian for a reason. Plus, she wasn't sure what there was to contribute except to rub salt in that wound. Had she known what he'd said in his native language, there was another reason why she wouldn't have spoken up: She had a bit of a "history", so to speak, too. She couldn't exactly pass judgement on somebody else for having done what she had, if Dmitri was using the word that he had used in its most literal sense.
Dmitri switched back into English then, saying that he felt the same way about his own behavior when he was his sisters' age. She nodded again, the momentary curiosity about whatever he'd said in Russian gone.
"Aha. So you were a brat, too?" Tamatha smiled, her tone lighter as she teased him. She couldn't hold it against him, and surely he knew that just as much as she did. She made a scolding noise with her tongue but laughed. "Shame, shame."

They seemed to connect on a small level when he agreed with not wanting to see their sibling be like them when they were teenagers. Though, Dmitri was certain that their situations were completely different. She used the word "brat" and it took him a moment to understand the term. the sound she made with her tongue and said "shame" clued him in. "I guess I was, in the normal sense." That being, if he had a normal family. To be honest, he did almost everything his father told him to do. In that respect, he was almost a perfect son, when he was younger. But as the children grew older, the old man started to require more and more. That was around the time Dmitri started fighting. he chuckled. after commenting. "Perhaps a bit more." Looking back, it was amazing that he wasn't arrested back then. He really was lucky. Dmitri took a moment to complete his pastry.

Dmitri agreed that maybe he had been a brat as a kid. "I guess I was," he said, "in the normal sense."
Though Tamatha wasn't sure what the "abnormal" sense of the word would have been, she nodded her head.
"Perhaps a bit more."
"Oh?" Tamatha laughed as she, too, finished off her pastry, wondering what it was that set Dmitri's childhood brattiness apart. "To be honest," she admitted lightly, "that was probably me, too. I, uh… got a little too comfortable with the idea of being an only child."

"I, uh… got a little too comfortable with the idea of being an only child." Tammy had stated. Dmitri highly doubted that she spent her days stealing money, or worse, taking their money from people, and leaving them feeling like they had done a good thing. It was hard to believe that someone would have the same, or even a similar past to his. This was a good thing. Dmitri liked to know that not everyone was the same as he was.
"So, that must mean that you are the oldest. Is that right?" Dmitri was the youngest for a time, until his half sister came along. Though he was the only boy, and he took it upon himself to protect his sisters while they were out in the city.

“So, that must mean that you are the oldest. Is that right?” What Dmitri had deduced from her comment was certainly correct; she was the eldest child in the family—whether she was considered to have two siblings or just one—and by a good margin, at that. It had been annoying for her as a kid, without a doubt. Being the only daughter of two well-off parents had left her spoiled. She nodded her head in reply to his question, confirming that he was right. “Yeah, I’m the eldest. I was for… about eleven years?” It was hard for Tamatha not to laugh, and she let out a slight chuckle. Cameron had been born when she wasn’t so much as a month away from turning eleven. “It would have been more fun, I think, if we were closer in age. I wasn’t really playing with dolls anymore by then…”

Dmitri noticed that the girl nodded in response of his question. "Was? Are you not anymore" He knew that wasn't an impossibility. People had kids, and then got together with other people who had kids. Things changed. In one sense, that's how he got his younger sister, or rather, half sister. “It would have been more fun, I think, if we were closer in age. I wasn’t really playing with dolls anymore by then…” she had stated last. "Closer in age can be better when your younger, but it doesn't matter too much when your older." Dmitri's older sister was mere months older than him, and they were close when younger. To be honest, they had to work together to make the money that their father expected. Now they barely talked. She didn't get what he was doing, and it didn't help that he couldn't talk about it. On top of that, he didn't like the direction she had gone with her life.
He then took a drink, realizing that it was just about done.

“Was? Are you not anymore?” Tamatha paused, having to think over what she had said for a moment. Realizing that her thoughts had led to the words that had come from her mouth with no explanation, she laughed in embarrassment and shook her head. “Sh*t. The only child, I meant…” She couldn’t even blame that one on her being Francophone, unfortunately. “I’m not sure how I would go from not being the eldest…?” she laughed, trying to recover as smoothly as possible. Perhaps it was possible if, say, one of her parents had had a child out of wedlock or something prior to her ever having been thought of… but that was stretching things. Dmitri added that being closer in age to one’s siblings was better when one was younger, though it didn’t matter as much with age. Tamatha nodded to that, and it left her hopeful that maybe, eventually, she and Cameron would have a better relationship. Maybe all that it would take would be a few more years, though that was assuming that she didn’t do something to wreck it all again. Fortunately, she wasn’t given much time to think that over. Dmitri had nearly finished his drink, as had she. “So to Flourish and Blotts after this?” @dmitri OOC: I literally just screwed up on the dialogue on that. Hahahaha… That was an OOC error for reaaaaaaaal.

Dmitri only laughed, it was quite possible to go from being the oldest sibling, to not. But this girl did seem like she was lost in her thoughts about her family. He couldn't blame her, during the same time, he had found himself looking back on his. This wasn't something that was always pleasant, especially when he thought about about his younger years and with his father. While he could correct her statement about the switch from eldest to not, he didn't think that would be wise. People rarely liked to be corrected in such a fashion, and looking like a "know it all" wasn't an idea way to get people to like you.
“So to Flourish and Blotts after this?” she had said once she had finished her drink. He nodded. "Let's go." He said as he stood up and waited for her to do the same.
@tamatha OOC: I defiantly understand that, and have done it plenty of times myself! And sorry for the long pauses between posting, I've been dealing with some things IRL.

As much as Tamatha had embarrassed herself by not only slipping up in conversation but not realizing it until Dmitri had questioned her about it—and as much as she could have stayed stuck in her own head about it—she knew that it could have been much worse, and Dmitri didn’t seem to dwell on it, either. He still nodded at her bringing up Flourish and Blotts again, which was good… She really didn’t want to be the one to wreck things between them so quickly. She had had less substantial relationships with men for longer and enough flings to know that this wasn’t her “usual”—whatever that was anymore. Dmitri stood. “Let's go,” he encouraged, and Tamatha, too, stood up from her place. She pushed her chair into the table before moving towards the door. “It’s a nice store,” Tamatha noted of the bookstore as she held the café door open for Dmitri. “I don’t go there often enough,” not with how busy she was with work, “but they have a good selection.” @dmitri OOC: Ditto to the apology for the late response!

Dmitri took one last look around the small cafe as Tammy stood up and tucked in her chair. It was a nice little place. He then too tucked in his chair and followed her to the door. He thanked her for holding the door open for him, and this time, he remembered to do it in English. "Don't most students get their books there?" Dmitri is an intellectual type and finds pleasure in obtaining information. "You'll have to show me your favorite area." He smiled at the girl as they started to make their way back to the the main area, where the bookstore was located. He also thought that perhaps he could see if they have an advanced potion text book.
@tamatha OOC: no worries, more issues have come up, so posting isn't something that is coming easily. So no rush and no worries.
